A technology for efficiently filtering using a web site is disclosed. In one method approach, distinct filtering values based on a type of data selected from a web page associated with a web site are received without requiring retrieval of filtering values that are unrelated to the selected type of data. The distinct filtering values are displayed without requiring the web page to be entirely updated.

Efficiently filtering using a web site

Document libraries that facilitate content contribution to and management of a website. In general, a document library comprises a database, a special 'document library' file system folder and the documents in that folder (or within subfolders of that folder). The database maintains properties of documents in the document library file system folder, and is used to dynamically update views of the document library file system folder and views of properties of the documents. Each document folder is a folder in which content of a specified type may be read and saved.

Web server document library

A method and system for downloading an editable web page having corresponding dynamic content. Dynamically rendered web pages are provided with a special script therein. In response to a client request for a dynamically rendered web page, the server sends the editable page with the script embedded therein. When the script is executed at the client, it creates a frame in the browser, and provides a reference to a DLL that is located on the server and the address for the same requested web page. The DLL is executed at the server and, in response, opens the dynamically rendered web page, retrieves dynamic content for the web page from a database, loads the dynamic content into the document, and returns the web page with the dynamic content to the browser as the content for the newly created frame.

Editable dynamically rendered web pages

A Web view page is provided by a browser module operating with a dialog box of an application program. The browser module displays a Web view page in a browser window within the dialog box of the application program, enabling a user to perform browser functions and application program functions by selecting an element in the Web view page. The browser module detects whether a selected element can be processed by the browser module alone, and if not, communicates the selected element to the dialog box of the application program for processing. A server that is capable of interacting with the Web view page implements the functions requested by the user.

System for integrating HTML Web site views into application file dialogs

Associating a discussion with a document by associating the discussion with an identifier for the document, such as the document address. A discussion is associated with the document without modifying the document. A reply can be associated with a general discussion, an in-line discussion or another reply. General and/or in-line discussions can be associated with the document. An in-line discussion is associated with a particular portion of the document through a signature. The signature is determined by analyzing the contents of the document near the in-line discussion location.
