An inspection system includes one or more processors and an infrared (IR) camera operably coupled to the one or more processors. The one or more processors control a microwave transmitter to sequentially emit microwaves having different frequencies within a designated frequency range into an object during a first sweep. The IR camera generates thermal image data of the object after the object is heated by each of the different frequencies of microwaves. The one or more processors analyze the thermal image data and determine a selected frequency within the designated frequency range that provides greater heating of the object than one or more other frequencies in the designated frequency range. The one or more processors also analyze select thermal image data of the object, responsive to heating of the object by the selected frequency of microwaves, to detect an element in the object.

Inspection system and method

A smart street lighting system and method employs a plurality of street lights having a luminaire, a luminaire associate and a support pole. A communications module is contained within the luminaire associates and a power line is contained within the support poles. The power line is coupled to the communications module, the luminaire associate and the luminaire, and a steerable millimeter wave radar operatively coupled to the communications module. The communications module operates in a radio frequency network in a frequency range of 57-64 GHz. The steerable millimeter wave radar provides a signal reflected from a target that may be received by one of the luminaire associates within the system. A powerline communications system interfaces with the radio frequency network to provide communications between the communications modules in the street lights and the PLC system.

A non-intrusive physiological data measurement system and method, as well as an optically induced treatment system, are described. The measurement system includes a monitoring mechanism that includes light emitter modules capable of emitting light at at least two wavelengths. The light emitted from the light emitter modules is transmitted through a subject and to a light receiving mechanism, such as an optical sensor. Physiological data is taken from the received light. The system also can ascertain movement of the subject by obtaining an initial outline of the subject and comparing that outline with a subsequently obtained outline. A therapeutic optic system includes a non-adhering light emitting mechanism for providing light at therapeutic wavelengths.

Measurement and treatment system and method

A system and method for detecting a utility network threat based on the quality of communications received at devices in the utility network. The quality of a communication signal received by a device in the utility network is determined and a threat to the utility network is determined based on the signal quality. Threat information is output to devices on the utility network.

System and method for assuring utility network security and reliability

A control system for an electric power system is provided. The control system includes a wireless communication system for tracking one or more electric vehicles and receiving a battery charge data of said electric vehicles. The control system also includes a load sensor for sensing load of the electric power system. The control system further includes a controller for operating one or more protection elements based on the battery charge data of the electric vehicles and the load data of the electric power system.

Systems, methods, and apparatus for electrical grid quantum key distribution is disclosed. According to the invention, a method is provided for secure communications in an electrical power distribution network. An example of the method can include evaluating vulnerability of communications control nodes associated with the network; distributing quantum encryption keys to one or more of the communications control nodes based, at least in part, on the vulnerability of the communications control nodes; and communicating among distributed electronic devices associated with the network using the quantum encryption keys.

Systems, methods, and apparatus for electrical grid quantum key distribution

A scale free communication network in a power network is provided. The scale free communication network comprises a plurality of distribution devices communicatively coupled to each other in a power network that include a protection device and a controller coupled to each of the plurality of distribution devices in the power network. The controller identifies a plurality of isolated distribution devices. The controller further restores the plurality of isolated distribution devices in the power network by automatically activating the tie-switch in the power network. The controller also computes reliability indicators for each of the restored distribution device in the power network. Furthermore, the controller identifies critical distribution devices in the power network based on the computed reliability indicators and establishes a scale free communications network within the power network based on the identified critical distribution devices.

An infant monitoring system includes an incubation chamber configured to house an infant. Furthermore, the infant monitoring system includes a data reception interface configured to receive a wireless signal indicative of a vital sign. The infant monitoring system may be configured to communicate wirelessly with a LAN or a remote monitoring system.

Incubator patient health care system

The present invention is directed to a system that enables the simultaneous remote monitoring of a plurality of infants' skin temperatures. The system comprises an electronic circuit that combines the functions of sensoring and multiple-channel transmitting, a pre-deployment temperature bath for calibration of the temperature sensor(s), and a receiving and reporting station for centralized monitoring the infants' skin temperatures. The present invention is further directed to a temperature sensor that measures the temperature and transmits the data in multiple channels to a remote receiver. In one embodiment, the temperature sensor comprises a ring oscillator, having a plurality of odd number of inverters, and the ring oscillator is capable of utilizing less than all of the inverters in the ring to modulate the frequency of the signal. In another embodiment, the temperature sensor comprises one inverter and a plurality of delay elements and sensor transmits phase shifted signals to modulate the signals. A signal processing method is also disclosed.

Apparatus for monitoring temperature and method for operating same

A radio and method of making the radio is disclosed having a first set of radio components for processing analog signals in a radio transmission and a second set of radio components for processing digital signals in a radio transmission. The radio comprises a substrate base support, and at least one pocket formed within the substrate. The radio comprises at least one processor, each of the at least one processor being within a corresponding one of the at least one pocket for modulating a radio signal into one of a plurality of waveforms based on a software instruction set. Each of the at least one processor being in electronic communication with both of the first and second sets of the radio components. A dielectric layer covers a top surface of the substrate and each of the at least one processor. A plurality of vias are formed in the dielectric layer to expose selected portions of each of the at least one processor. A metallization layer is formed over the dielectric layer and over the plurality of vias so that each of the at least one processor is in electrical communication with the first and second sets of radio components.
