When applied to geographical locale datasets, cluster characterization and comparison techniques meaningfully transform representations of data to facilitate sophisticated locale-specific comparisons and provide location-specific outcome predictions. Outcome predictions may, for example, be based on distributions of locale attributes associated with of a large number of geographic locales and/or by computing statistical probabilities of particular outcomes based on outcome data associated with each of the geographic locales.

The disclosed technology facilitates objective comparisons between different geographical locales based on statistical comparisons of associated distributions of locale attributes. According to one implementation, a method disclosed herein includes defining a benchmark cluster having a first distribution of locale attributes; identifying a plurality of locale clusters that each correspond to one of a number of locales within a search zone associated with a different distribution of the locale attributes; assessing satisfaction of a similarity condition by comparing the benchmark cluster and to one or more of the identified locale clusters; and outputting one or more of the locales corresponding to the identified locale clusters satisfying the similarity condition.

Geographic locale mapping system

A merchant scoring system predicts and reports the likelihood that a merchant is reliable (e.g., trustworthy, honest, and reputable), which is expected to translate into a positive consumer experience. The system collects data from a variety of data sources, including combinations of the merchant, third-parties, and/or customers who have transacted with the merchant. A scoring model is executed on this collected data to determine an independent and objective merchant reliability metric that predicts the expected reliability of a merchant within a range. The system may also track transactions of individual merchants, populating a transaction history database with information about each merchant for use in this collection and scoring process. The transaction history data and other data may also be accessible to a prospective customer to build his or her confidence in and understanding of the merchant reliability metric and his or her trust of the merchant.

A system of screening servers, screener client computers, and screening kiosks distribute an applicant screening process among multiple sites and multiple participants. To facilitate and secure communications of screening results and applicant actions, a personal identification code is provided that identifies individual sets of screening results. In this manner, the applicant is authenticated and can then enter appropriate applicant profile data into a secure screening account, such as via a screening kiosk. Screening results may be generated for the applicant in association with a unique personal identification code. This code can then be communicated to the screener, who can access the screening results along with a recommendation, if desired, by sending the code to a screening server. The screener can also enter appropriate screening information into another secure screening account.
