A method is disclosed. For example, the method executed by a processor of a multi-function device (MFD) includes generating an alignment image based on execution of a copy function while an alignment mark is attached to a continuous velocity transport (CVT) platen glass of a CVT of the MFD, determining a misalignment of an illumination profile area, a position of a sensor, and the CVT based on the alignment image, and providing a corrective action to perform an alignment of at least one of the illumination profile area, the position of the sensor, and the CVT via a display of the MFD.

Method and apparatus to verify imaging position on a multi-function device

An improved system and method for the selection and dispensing of reagents onto a target testing medium in an automated laboratory environment. The system utilizes multiple carousels rotatably-mounted upon a central turntable. The position of the central turntable, as well as the rotation of each carousel is controlled by a microprocessor-based control system. Multiple dispensers, each capable of storing and dispensing a particular reagent, are mounted about the circumference of each carousel. This configuration provides much higher reagent density than previously available. The testing medium is positioned at one or more loading stations. The control system directs the central turntable to a position from which a selected one of the carousels can be rotated so as to position a selected dispenser above the testing medium. The selected dispenser is then actuated to release a predetermined reagent onto the testing medium. The system can be configured so that multiple reagents can be dispensed, each from an associated dispenser, onto a single or multiple testing mediums. Each of these actuated dispensers being positioned over the targeted testing medium(s) positioned at one or more loading stations.

Multiple carousel cartridge-based dispensing system and method

Printing apparatuses include a photoreceptor adapted to print an image by applying marking material to print media, a fuser adapted to heat the marking material on the print media, and a controller. The controller determines the amount of marking material per unit area of the image before the fuser heats the marking material on the print media. The controller rasterizes the image to produce a bitmap of the image, but the amount of marking material per unit area for the image is determined before completion of rasterization and marking of the image. The controller also adjusts the operating temperature of the fuser to a fusing temperature based on the amount of marking material per unit area of the image, causes the photoreceptor to print the image on the print media using the bitmap of the image, and causes the fuser to fuse the marking material to the print media.

A scanner calibration system is provided. The scanner calibration system includes memory configured in a format to store therein encoded gain and offset parameters. Such a configuration reduces the amount of required memory for the scanner calibration system without a compromise of performance.

A method for structural analysis of an object includes generating scanned surface data of an object using a three-dimensional sensor and aligning a physical object model corresponding to the scanned surface data with a predetermined three-dimensional model of the object. The method also includes identifying an interference between a location of the aligned physical object model, optionally including any elastic deformation with an internal component within the three-dimensional model and generating an indicator of expected damage to the internal component.

System and method for internal structural defect analysis using three-dimensional sensor data

A method and system for structural analysis of an object detects deviations between a physical object model and a predetermined three-dimensional model of the object. The physical object model is generated from scanned surface data of an object produced by a three-dimensional sensor. The physical object model is aligned with the predetermined three-dimensional model of the object to identify an interference between a location of the aligned physical object model and the predetermined three-dimensional model of the object that corresponds with any elastic deformation of an internal component within the predetermined three-dimensional model. An indicator of expected damage to the internal component arising from the elastic deformation is generated.

A system and method enables production of medicament containers with edible material at a site for dispensing medicaments. The containers are formed in shapes that indicate the contents of the containers and can be formed with indicia that indicate the times for taking the medicaments. Additionally, the containers can be formed with raised protuberances that provide information regarding the medicaments in the containers. In one embodiment, the raised protuberances are in Braille.

System and method for printing edible medicament dosage containers having identifying indicia at dispensing sites

A document scanning device includes first and second image sensors spaced along a document path and positioned to scan first and second sides of an input document. A first driven belt is configured to receive the input document directly onto a first surface of the first driven belt and transports the document past the first image sensor, where a first side of the document is scanned. A second driven belt, horizontally spaced from the first driven belt, receives the document after it has been scanned by the second image sensor and transports the document to an output. The device is suited to scanning of a variety of substrates and document sizes, such as normal, small, rigid, or delicate documents as the document path can be substantially straight and provide support for the document during scanning allowing delicate, small or rigid documents to be scanned.

According to exemplary methods, a selection of a paper type for producing an image is received. A database of background suppression values associated with paper types is searched. Responsive to not finding a background suppression value associated with the paper type, the database is updated for the paper type. According to the method of updating, a page of the paper type is scanned and image data obtained by scanning the page is analyzed. Background luminance for the page is determined based on analyzing the image data. A background suppression value is calculated for the page based on the background luminance. The paper type and the background suppression value for the page are added to the database. The background suppression value is associated with the paper in the database.

A printing device includes a print media pathway connecting a print media source with a marking component. A flexible member, positioned in the pathway, is deflected by a moving sheet of media to be printed by the marking component. A sensor system outputs a signal in response to a detected deflection of the flexible member. A weight output component outputs a weight-related value for the sheet based on the output signal. The weight-related value may correspond to one of a predefined set of print media weight ranges, each range associated with one or more respective settings for the printing device. An adjustment component adjusts the settings of the printing device based on the weight-related value. This allows the printing device to respond dynamically to changes in print media weight without the need to be provided with the weight of the print media currently installed in the printer by a user.

A feeding system in a printing apparatus is disclosed. For example, the feeding system includes a feed roll, a retard roll, a movable arm, a spring and a temperature dependent flexible material. The movable arm is coupled to the retard roll. The spring is coupled to the movable arm. The temperature dependent flexible material is located below the spring to move the retard roll towards the feed roll via the spring coupled to the end of the arm to maintain a nip force applied by the retard roll against the feed roll as a temperature in a location of the printing apparatus changes.

What is disclosed is a method for encoding liquid ink with a biomarker which can be traced back to a specific inkjet printer. In one embodiment, an aqueous solution containing a biomarker is combined with a volume of liquid ink. The biomarker comprises a nucleic acid. An ordering of nucleobases forming that nucleic acid has a code sequence. In one embodiment hereof, the nucleic acid is constructed using a code sequence which contains, at least in part, the device specific serial number of the inkjet printer. The encoded liquid ink is added to an inkjet printer and the code sequence encoded in that ink is associated with that particular inkjet printer. The inkjet printer is then used to deposit the encoded ink onto a media substrate. In other embodiments, a fluorescent marker is also added with the volume of liquid ink such that the ink fluoresces under an ultraviolet light.

An image rendering apparatus and method of operating a center tray of an image rendering apparatus. The image rendering apparatus includes a cavity, and a center tray having a home position located within the cavity and a retrieval position located outside the cavity. The image rendering apparatus further includes a retraction mechanism that is attached to the center tray and an interior wall of the cavity. The retraction mechanism is configured to allow for the extension of the center tray from the home position to the retrieval position, and from the retrieval position to the home position.

In order to mitigate image defects caused by unwanted disturbances as a carriage module travels from a continuous velocity transport module across a CVT ramp to a platen module, a bottom surface of the CVT ramp is recessed relative to bottom surfaces of the CVT glass and platen glass to facilitate a smooth transition as the CIS carriage passes the CVT ramp during scanning. An additional carriage button is also provided on the carriage surface to ensure that at least two carriage buttons are biased against the CVT-platen assembly at all times, thereby mitigating vibrational disturbance in the system during scanning motion. The carriage module may be a contact image sensor (CIS) carriage module, a Full Width Array (FWA) carriage module, or a folded Charged Coupled Device (CCD) carriage module.
