A variable inductor structure for varying an inductance responsive to a digital tuning signal, comprising: a first inductor; a second, adjustable, inductor; and a digital control mechanism configured to receive the digital tuning signal and to adjust the effective inductance of the second inductor in response to the digital tuning signal; wherein the second inductor is positioned sufficiently close to the first inductor so as to be capable of altering by mutual inductance the effective inductance of the first inductor in dependence on the digital tuning signal.

Tuning circuit

An analogue-to-digital converter for converting an analogue input signal into a digital output signal, the analogue-to-digital converter including two conversion paths, each configured to receive a version of the analogue input signal and convert it into a digital bit stream, a first feedback loop configured to provide feed-back, to both paths, that is indicative of a difference between the digital bit streams output by the two paths, and a second feedback loop configured to feed-back, to both paths, that is indicative of an average of the digital bit streams output by the two paths.

Analogue-to-digital converter

An amplifier including a first transistor of a first conduction type; a second transistor of a second conduction type, the second transistor being coupled to the first transistor; an input for receiving an input signal, a control terminal of the first transistor being coupled to a control terminal of the second transistor, the control terminals being coupled to the input; an output for outputting an output signal, the output being coupled to the first transistor and the second transistor; and a current supply coupled to the first transistor and configured to supply current so as to cause a predetermined transconductance of the amplifier.

Current controlled transconducting inverting amplifiers

An integrated circuit chip including a first inductor; a second inductor having nturns and located a distance rfrom the first inductor; and a third inductor having nturns and located a distance rfrom the first inductor; wherein the second and third inductors are coupled so as to cause current to circulate around the second inductor in a first rotational direction and around the third inductor in a second rotational direction opposite to the first rotational direction; and wherein n, n, rand rare such that current induced in the first inductor due to magnetic coupling from the second inductor is negated by current induced in the first inductor due to magnetic coupling from the third inductor.

Integrated circuit chip inductor configuration

An oscillator includes an oscillating circuit for generating an output signal having an output signal frequency. The oscillating circuit includes an inductive element and a capacitive element, the capacitive element having a variable capacitance for coarsely tuning the output signal frequency. The oscillator further includes a current supply for supplying current to the oscillating circuit, the current supply being variable for finely tuning the output signal frequency.

Frequency fine tuning

An RSSI detector for determining a received signal strength of a received signal, including a transistor configured to operate in a non-linear mode to generate second order components of the received signal comprising a DC component and an AC component; a filter configured to attenuate the AC component of the generated signal to form a filtered signal; and a determination unit configured to determine the received signal strength of the received signal based on an amplitude of the filtered signal.

Low current RSSI detector

A method of tuning the frequency of a generated signal to form an output signal including: forming the generated signal at a signal generator; comparing a feedback signal with a reference signal and generating a control signal in dependence on that comparison, wherein the feedback signal is generated using the output signal; and generating the output signal by performing a frequency-dividing operation in dependence on the generated signal and a dividing factor, wherein the dividing factor is determined in dependence on the control signal.

Generating a tuned frequency output from a signal generator

A phase locked loop comprising: an oscillator for generating an output signal of a frequency that is dependent on an input to the oscillator; sampling means for generating a sequence of digital values representing the output of the oscillator at moments synchronized with a reference frequency; a difference unit for generating a feedback signal representing the difference between successive values in the sequence; and an integrator for integrating the difference between the feedback signal and a signal of a desired output frequency; the signal input to the oscillator being dependent on the output of the integrator.
