Described is a fragrance control release system which is an emulsifier-free, single phase, nonporous, continuous, permeable polymeric film having a substantially uniform thickness of from about 1 up to about 150 microns, having entrapped and dissolved therein molecules of at least one fragrance substance capable of evolving from said film into the environment proximate said film by means of molecular diffusion at a permeation rate of from about 1&times;10 up to about 0.1 mg-mm/cm -min in a sustained and controlled release manner. Also described is a process for using the aforementioned system for imparting a fragrance into the environment above the unobstructed outer surface of the aforementioned polymer film which is coated on the surface of a solid or semi-solid support, e.g., a woven or non-woven fabric substrate; or a solid surface or human epidermis.

Described is a composition of matter comprising a powdered, water-soluble, water-dispersible or water-swellable polymer, a compatible fragrance, either as a blend of fragrance with polymer or separately mixed, and one or more surfactants. The polymer may be extruded polyvinyl alcohol or partially hydrolyzed polyvinyl acetate. Also described is a toilet element moulded from the composition of matter, which may be either a toilet rim block for use in a toilet bowl, or a free-standing block for use in a toilet cistern, and processes for comparing the composition of matter and toilet element.

Described is a water-soluble solid-phase ironing aid-freshening composition for use in forming controllably dimensioned tablets, which have controlled weights and densities and which are conveniently added to the water-containing steam chamber of a steam iron. The use of the tablets produced from the composition enables textiles which are ironed to be freshened and de-wrinkled. The composition includes (i) a support substance; (ii) a tablet binder substance; and (iii) a fragrance composition and, optionally, a silicone resin, a chelating agent and/or a surfactant.
