Integrated membrane and steam reformer for hydrogen production

Nitrogen is removed from biogas using a three-stage separation system based on gas separation membranes. The first stage separates a biomethane feed stream into a first permeate gas stream and a first retentate gas stream. The second stage separates the first permeate stream into a biomethane product gas and a first low quality biomethane gas stream. The third stage separates the first retentate into a second low quality biomethane gas stream and a waste gas. A biogas feed stream is pretreated to remove amounts of water, VOCs, and COto yield a methane-enriched biogas stream. The methane-enriched biogas stream is compressed together with the first and second low quality biomethane gas streams to form the biomethane feed stream.

The invention relates to a process for recovering methane from digester biogas or landfill gas. More specifically, the invention pertains to a method for producing biomethane that removes impurities from a compressed digester biogas with staged membrane modules of at least two different types, to produce a biomethane having at least 94% CH, below 3% of CO, and below 4 ppm of HS.

The invention relates to a process for recovering methane from digester biogas or landfill gas. More specifically, the invention pertains to biomethane production that substantially removes carbon dioxide from a digester biogas or landfill gas using first, second, and third purification stages each comprising one or more membranes selective for carbon dioxide over methane. A retentate from the first stage is separated by the one more membranes of the second stage into a second state retentate, forming a biomethane product gas. A permeate from the first stage is separated by the one or more membranes of the third stage into a third stage retentate and a third stage permeate. Recovery of methane from the biogas is boosted by feeding the third stage retentate to the first purification stage. The recovery may be optionally further boosted by compressing the second stage permeate with the biogas at a main compressor.

A natural gas feedstream containing contaminants such as carbon dioxide is purified by passing the contaminated natural gas stream through a membrane to remove the bulk of the contaminant, passing the purified natural gas stream to a TSA unit to remove additional contaminant from the natural gas stream to a desired specification, and regenerating the TSA adsorbent by heating the adsorbent with a heated contaminant-containing permeate stream from the membrane.

A natural gas-containing stream such as biogas from landfills and sewage treatment plants is freed of siloxane contaminants by passing the biogas through a bed containing an adsorbent having a neutral surface, which adsorbs the siloxanes. When the bed of neutral adsorbent is filled to capacity, the adsorbent bed is heated to remove the siloxanes and regenerate the bed. The neutral adsorbent reduces disadvantageous reactions between the adsorbent and siloxane and other impurities in the natural gas-containing stream.

The invention relates to a method for achieving low oxygen levels in a natural gas stream without the use of a catalytic system. More specifically, the integrated process of the present invention comprises a three step process involving the adsorption of heavy hydrocarbons and water on an adsorbent bed selective for the same, a subsequent aqueous lean amine treatment for the absorptive removal of acid gases, such as carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide, and an adsorptive removal of water. The process of the present invention results in a highly purified natural gas product stream.

The present invention is directed to an improved integrated process for the removal of heavy hydrocarbons, carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulfide, and water from a raw natural gas feed stream. More specifically, the integrated process of the present invention comprises a three step process involving the adsorption of heavy hydrocarbons and water on an adsorbent bed selective for the same, a subsequent aqueous lean amine treatment for the absorptive removal of acid gases, such as carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide, and an adsorptive removal of water. The process of the present invention results in a highly purified dry natural gas product stream.

Recovering sulfur from a gas stream containing hydrogen sulfide by oxidizing the gas stream to convert the hydrogen sulfide in the gas stream to sulfur oxide, and thus form a sulfur oxide enriched gas stream. The sulfur oxide enriched gas stream is contacted with a solid, sulfation resistant adsorbent bed at relatively low temperatures to extract the sulfur oxides and retain them as sulfur compounds, thus forming a sulfur oxide depleted gas stream. The adsorbent bed is then contacted with an inert or reducing gas stream to reduce the retained sulfur compounds to sulfur and/or sulfur dioxide and thereby form an enriched sulfur and/or sulfur dioxide bearing stream. The elemental sulfur is recovered and/or the sulfur dioxide bearing stream may be recycled to the Claus unit for further conversion.

Process for the recovery of sulfur from Claus tail gas streams

A pressure swing adsorption process for the separation of impurities such as nitrogen and carbon dioxide and recovery of hydrocarbons from a natural gas stream utilizes two separate adsorption systems, the first containing an adsorbent selective for nitrogen, carbon dioxide or both and the second containing a hydrocarbon-selective adsorbent. In the process, the natural gas stream is passed through a first adsorbent to form a product stream enriched with methane and to adsorb nitrogen and/or carbon dioxide and which further co-adsorbs at least a portion of the hydrocarbons contained in the feed stream. The hydrocarbons are recovered by passing a low pressure waste stream from the first pressure swing adsorption stage which contains co-adsorbed nitrogen and/or carbon dioxide and hydrocarbons and directing the waste stream to the second pressure swing adsorption stage to adsorb the hydrocarbons and produce a product stream enriched in nitrogen and/or carbon dioxide. The hydrocarbons are recovered from the hydrocarbon-selective adsorbent by an intermediate pressure methane-containing stream from the first pressure swing adsorption stage which purges the adsorbent in the second stage and forms a combined stream comprising methane and C hydrocarbons. The C hydrocarbons can be separated from the methane such as by compression with flash separation or refrigeration.
