The controller is configured for detecting a beginning of the EV charging session, monitoring EV charging current and EV charging voltage during the EV charging session, detecting an end of the EV charging session, determining an amount of energy transferred during the EV charging session, and transmitting to a remote device a value representing the amount of energy transferred during the EV charging session.

The present disclosure describes a device for providing adaptive charging of an electric vehicle (EV). The device includes a memory and at least one processor configured for receiving a set of parameters of an aggregate power waveform carried on a power line from a set of sensors; receiving a set of relationships between a set of power signatures and a set of power sources; determining, using the set of parameters and the set of power signatures, a subset of the set of power signatures represented in the set of parameters; identifying, using the subset of the set of power signatures and the set of relationships between the set of power signatures and the set of power sources, a subset of the set of power sources contributing to the aggregate power waveform; and controlling, responsive to identifying identified subset of the set of power sources, a charging circuit.

A powerline communications apparatus includes a transceiver communicating over an electrical power distribution wiring of a vehicle and a communications interface carrying a first and second PLC message in a first communication protocol having a PLC automotive network delimiter type, a PLCAN variant field comprising a number of users, user identifications, payload length, payload data, and a repetition number corresponding to a number of times the first PLC message is transmitted over the electrical power distribution wiring, and a first payload for a first user. The PLC apparatus also includes a processor and a non-transitory computer-readable medium storing programming for execution by the processor. The programming includes instructions for transmitting the first PLC message using the transceiver, determining if the vehicle is in motion, and switching between the first and the second communication protocol based on whether the vehicle is determined to be in motion.

Powerline communications automotive network

Multicast transmissions are efficient but do not allow for individual acknowledgement that the data was received by each receiver. This is not acceptable for isochronous systems that require specific levels of QoS for each device. A multimedia communications protocol is provided that uses a novel multi-destination burst transmission protocol in multimedia isochronous systems. The transmitter establishes a bi-directional burst mode for multicasting data to multiple devices and receiving Reverse Start of Frame (RSOF) delimiters from each multicast-destination receiver in response to multiple SOF delimiters, thus providing protocol-efficient multi-destination acknowledgements.

Multicast transmissions do not allow for individual receivers to acknowledge that data was received by each receiver in the network. This is not acceptable for isochronous systems that require specific levels of QoS for each device. A multimedia communications protocol supports using multicast transmissions (one-to-many) in multimedia isochronous systems. A transmitter establishes a Multi-ACKed Multicast protocol within which a group of receiving devices can acknowledge the multicast transmission during a multi-acknowledgment period.

Multi-acked multicast protocol

An embodiment is a powerline communications (PLC) apparatus including a communications interface that implements a first communication protocol including of a transceiver that communicates over an electrical power distribution wiring of a vehicle. The first communication protocol includes a powerline communications automotive network (PLCAN) delimiter type (DT) (PLCAN-DT), and a PLCAN variant length field in a frame control comprising payload length, a number of symbols used, a PHY block size, and a number of repetitions used, wherein broadcast addressing is used in the network to transmit messages.

In a typical powerline communications environment, all electrical outlets and branches are connected to a load center. In this type of electrical system, all communication devices will share the same frequency spectrum, limiting the maximum bandwidth of the network, where all nodes are in contention with each other. In the inventive system, the electrical load center would provide filtering to isolate all branches off the load center into different network segments all capable of carrying the maximum bandwidth allowed by the physical layer technology. The advantages of the method described by this invention will be most noticeable when high bandwidth devices are communicating with each other on the same electrical segment, for example a HDTV receiver communicating with a HDTV monitor in the same room.

System and method for an intelligent load center with integrated powerline communications network switching and network management capabilities

The invention presents a novel method to channel estimation in OFDM systems. The embodiment of this invention is a block of new logic and modifications performed to other components of the system, added to any existing OFDM receiver, which utilizes information available from other blocks as found in the receiver. This logic would improve the units' error rate because of the improved channel quality estimations it makes available. This improvement is made possible because both channel noise data and channel signal data are used in the estimation process. This data goes through a learning process over time and multiple data blocks for further improvements in the quality of the estimate. This improvement is possible without any direct communications with other remote units, but it could be used in a multi-node environment to improve the performance of the system as the whole.

Method and system of channel analysis and carrier selection in OFDM and multi-carrier systems

The trend toward moving to digital content is progressing and expanding every day. With that trend comes the availability of a multitude of content from many content sources. There is a need for this content to be distributed to multiple destinations, and there is a further need to have the content synchronized among those multiple destinations. Embodiments described herein detail a method of synchronizing this content in an asynchronous environment, such as a powerline network, including using a PHY timing flag that is used to compensate for PHY-to-channel-to-PHY delays.
