Light-weight, fire-resistant 'mineral foam' includes an inorganic cementitious matrix and at least one metal hydrate that is a 'super hydrate' substance, in which water is present with the substance in an amount of at least about ten moieties of water of hydration per formula unit of the substance. As a cured solid, that 'mineral foam,' or another mineral foam composition including an inorganic cementitious matrix, can be provided as a structural member in part of an assembly that has at least one open web, thermally insulating support member at least partially embedded in the cured solid. Also, the cured &#x201c;mineral foam&#x201d; may be a solid foam in a form of a panel, panel block or tile, which may have a tongue provision and/or a groove provision.

Light-weight, fire-resistant composition and assembly

Composition embraces a fire retardant coating formulation that intumesces at a low temperature. The composition can be in a form of a paint, for instance, having as a primary fire retardant ingredient an ammonium phosphate and also having as a low-temperature intumescent agent an expandable graphite powder or flake. A temperature of intumescence can be substantially below 204.4&#xb0; C. (400&#xb0; F.) or thereabout, and it may have more than one temperature of intumescence. Such a composition can be made by contacting a fire retardant formulation, optionally with another active agent, with a low-temperature intumescencent agent under conditions sufficient to form the composition; it can be used by contacting it with a substrate, which may be otherwise flammable. Another aspect is the composition or its residue in combination with the substrate.

Low-temperature intumescent fire retardant

Intumescent fire retardant paint includes an insecticide. The paint can be a latex. Another active agent, for example, a mold inhibitor, may be included. The insecticide may be, for example, a termiticide.

An ammonium phosphate containing fire retardant is combined with a fluoropolymer and/or a penetrating barrier, borate-containing formulation having resistance to water damage with protective properties coming from materials such as used in food packaging and cosmetics and/or a medium-to-long chain polar carboxyl substance, and/or a medium-to-long chain polar carboxyl substance without borate, so as to make a composition. The composition can be aqueous. It can be a liquid of light to moderate viscosity, or may be a concentrated or dried version, which may contain a neutral ammonium phosphate and perhaps other ingredient(s) such as a mold inhibitor, an insecticide, a stain protector, and so forth and the like. The mold inhibitor can have especial activity against toxic black mold (). The insecticide may be a termiticide. Such a composition can be made by contacting the fire retardant and other necessary ingredient(s) under conditions sufficient to form the composition; it can be used by contacting it with a substrate, which beneficially is otherwise flammable. A process for incorporation of an ammonium phosphate containing fire retardant into wood includes contacting the wood with a liquid at an effective pH above the pH of the wood, where the liquid embraces a combination in proximity or time of an amine oxide and a buffering agent, as well as the ammonium phosphate containing fire retardant, under conditions such that the ammonium phosphate containing fire retardant is incorporated into the wood. Another aspect is the composition or its residue in combination with the substrate.

Ammonium phosphate fire retardant with water resistance

Lightweight composite or 'mineral foam' composite materials can be made from reactive materials such as metal oxides. The materials can be prepared from a reaction of metal oxide(s), phosphate(s) and residual materials to which may be added a reactive foaming agent and/or latex polymer to provide enhanced physical properties. The composite materials can have a density of between about 0.35 to 2.25 g/cc, and may be used for many applications including pre-cast structures, in-situ structures, insulating blocks, slabs and composite wall sections, light weight spheres, mixes and coatings.

Lightweight composite materials and methods

Intumescent fire retardant latex paint has a mold inhibitor in an amount sufficient to kill, control, or prevent growth of mold, mildew or fungus after the intumescent fire retardant latex paint having mold inhibitor is applied to, and dried and reached a constant mass on a substrate. The paint can be in a form of a finish paint or primer. For example, the mold may be toxic black mold (), and the mold inhibitor may be alkyldimethylbenzylammonium chloride as an 80% by weight mixture added at about 3% by weight of a base fire retardant latex paint formulation. Such a paint can be made by contacting latex paint-forming ingredients with a fire retardant and a mold inhibitor, under conditions sufficient to form the paint; and can be used by contacting it with a substrate under conditions sufficient to be flame retardant or mold inhibitory, or both. An article of manufacture can include, in combination, the paint having the mold inhibitor, or its residue, and the substrate.

Fire retardant composition includes an ammonium phosphate substance, which is in contact with a carbonific, for example, glucose, and a nitrogenous spumific, for example, urea. A polysaccharide and/or a nonionic alkylpolyglycoside surfactant may be present. The composition may be in the form of a clear, aqueous liquid.

Fire retardant

Fire retardant composition has a mold inhibitor. The composition can embrace a mixture of a substantially neutral ammonium phosphate salt in combination with an active hydrogen-containing nitrogenous organic compound spumific, e.g., urea, and with a hydroxyl-containing carbonific, e.g., a polyol, and further with the mold inhibitor. Such a composition can be made by contacting a phosphoric acid with ammonia to form the ammonium phosphate, contacting the ammonium phosphate with the spumific, the carbonific, and the mold inhibitor, under conditions sufficient to form the composition; and can be used by contacting it with a flammable substrate under conditions sufficient to be flame retardant or mold inhibitory, or both. Another aspect is an article of manufacture comprising, in combination, the fire retardant composition having the mold inhibitor, and the flammable substrate or a residue of the same.
