Described is a technology by which code, such as an untrusted web application hosted in a browser, provides content through an interface for playback by an application environment, such as an application environment running in a browser plug-in. Content may be in the form of elementary video, audio and/or script streams. The content is in a container that is unpackaged by the application code, whereby the content may be packaged in any format that the application understands, and/or or come from any source from which the application can download the container. An application environment component such as a platform-level media element receives information from an application that informs the application environment that the application is to provide media stream data for playback. The application environment requests media stream data (e.g., samples) from the application, receives them as processed by the application, and provides the requested media stream data for playback.

Embodiments are directed to rendering animations in a multi-layered animation system and to rendering an element with an animation that uses multiple levels of animation properties. In one scenario, a computer system establishes an operating system (OS)-specified animation value for at least one property of a user interface (UI) element that is to be animated. The computer system receives a user-specified animation value for at least one property of the UI element that is to be animated and determines, based on the UI element property, how to combine the OS-specified animation value and the user-specified animation value. The computer system then combines the OS-specified animation value and the user-specified value for the UI element in the determined manner and renders the animation for the element using the combined animation values.

Layering animation properties in higher level animations

A system that manages lifetime of an object is provided. The system analyzes references on multiple objects to determine reachability of a native peer and dynamically transitions between native and managed object lifetime management systems based on the analysis. When a native peer is not reachable by a native application reference, the system weakens references to a managed peer avoiding memory leaks and clones the native references to the managed side to avoid premature collection. The system performs an optimized cleanup during object system shutdown wherein the references between managed and native peers are released and SafeHandles are suppressed from finalization. The system employs a pending remove list that stores a reference to a weak reference of a managed peer to eliminate race conditions that occur during finalization.

Managing object lifetime for native/managed peers

The present invention extends to methods, systems, and computer program products for managing object lifetime in a cyclic graph. Embodiments of the invention include reclaiming allocated system resources, for example, from a graph of objects that mixes different resource reclamation techniques (such as reference counting and garbage collection). In response to determining that garbage collection is to be performed, references between GC objects and Ref. Counted objects are detected. A reference type (e.g., direct, indirect, standard, tracked, weakened, etc.) for any detected references is also determined. Garbage collection is performed to determine if any allocated system resources can be reclaimed. Garbage collection considers references and references types between GC objects and Ref. Counted objects when determining if objects are to be reclaimed.

Managing object lifetime in a cyclic graph

Embodiments are directed to semantically navigating a data collection and to providing custom data mappings for a semantic group of data items. In one scenario, a computer system displays various data items of a data collection on a data presentation interface of a software application user interface. The user interface receives a first user input indicating that a semantic interface is to be displayed in the software application user interface, and displays the semantic interface which includes semantic headers that identify groups of data items. The user interface then receives a second user input that selects at least one of the semantic headers to display its corresponding group of data items and navigates the data presentation interface to the group of data items corresponding to the selected semantic header.

In one or more implementations, a determination is made by a computing device as to which of a plurality of controls correspond to one or more inputs detected using one or more magnetometers, cameras, or microphones. Modular content framework and document format methods and systems are described. The described framework and format define a set of building blocks for composing, packaging, distributing, and rendering document-centered content. These building blocks define a platform-independent framework for document formats that enable software and hardware systems to generate, exchange, and display documents reliably and consistently. The framework and format have been designed in a flexible and extensible fashion. In addition to this general framework and format, a particular format, known as the reach package format, is defined using the general framework. The reach package format is a format for storing paginated documents. The contents of a reach package can be displayed or printed with full fidelity among devices and applications in a wide range of environments and across a wide range of scenarios.

Determining compatibility of data structures. A method may be practiced in a computing environment. The method includes accessing a first type defined in a mark-up object. The first type includes a first structure including a first plurality of fields. A second type defined in a mark-up object is accessed. Based on the comparison, a determination is made that the first type is compatible with the second type.

The present invention provides a dynamic queue for managing jobs in a threaded computing environment. Jobs may be placed in the queue, which may be maintained within a context of the computing environment, at a given priority level. The priority of jobs within the queue and the receipt time of each job is maintained. A job may also be placed within the queue with triggers that, if met, will result in the priority of the job being changed or will result in the job being removed from the queue entirely. Methods in accordance with the present invention also provide a method for raising an exception should multiple threads seek to access objects within a single context. Methods in accordance with the present invention also provide compatibility with prior computing systems and methodologies by providing for integration of prior static queues with dynamic queues in accordance with the present invention, and by providing methods for a given thread to be pinned to a particular context of a computing environment.

An inheritance context is created for a graphics primitive object that is a property of a visual element. The inheritance context can be used to make some element information (e.g., information in resource dictionaries, name dictionaries, and inheritable properties that reside in the element tree containing the visual element) available to the graphics primitive object.

Aspects of the subject matter described herein relate to generating and propagating commands. In aspects, elements of a graphical user interface may include an input binding which associates a gesture with a command. When a gesture is received, the command is generated depending on which element has focus. In addition, elements of the graphic user interface may also define methods to call when commands are received. When an event or a command is received, a hierarchical data structure of elements representable on the graphical user interface may be traversed to respond to the event or command.

The application programming interfaces described herein are directed at property management mechanisms that operate within an on-demand property system. The property management mechanisms support the caching of property values on an as needed basis, allow a plurality of object instances to utilize the same property via attached properties, overriding default information associated with a property on a per type basis, obtaining values for a property from an external source, and the like. In addition, the on-demand property system provides validation and control for each property instance. The property management mechanisms minimize the storage requirements and provide flexibility without requiring additional code from the developers.
