A system for providing discharge monitoring of a firearm includes an event detection module, an event detection module housing, and a signal processing module. The event detection module has a sensor that senses an acceleration and generates an acceleration signal. The event detection module housing houses the event detection module. The signal processing module receives the acceleration signal and determines whether the acceleration signal is a discharge event and generates an event detection signal based on the determination, the signal processing module is further configured to maintain a shot count of the firearm based on the determination that the event detection signal is a discharge event. The event detection module is coupled to a quick change barrel of the firearm. The event detection module generates the event detection signal specific to the quick change barrel of the firearm; and determines a shot count of the quick change barrel.

The first sensor is disposed on the firearm that senses a first acceleration along a first axis and sends a first input signal. The event detection module receives the first input signal and compares the first acceleration to an acceleration threshold indicative of a shot; receives the second input signal and compares the second input signal to a second threshold indicative of a shot; determines whether a discharge has occurred based on both the first signal satisfying the acceleration threshold and the second input signal satisfying the second threshold; and generates an event detection signal based on the determination.

A system and method for determining a discharge event of a firearm is provided. The trigger pull sensor assembly senses mechanical movement of a trigger of the firearm and communicates a trigger actuation signal to the signal processing module corresponding to a position of the trigger. The event detection signal is further based on the trigger actuation signal.

A subset of accepted accelerations from the sampled event candidates are identified that satisfy the discharge acceleration template. A first rotation input signal from the sample window of time associated with each accepted acceleration in the subset is compared to a first rotation template that represents a confirmed weapon discharge event. A determination is made whether the sample event candidate is a discharge event based on satisfying both the discharge acceleration template and the first rotation template.
