A composite tubular assembly formed by a core or tube which is reinforced by a multitape product which is wrapped in alternate non-bonded helical wraps on the core or tube. Each tape is first formed by impregnating a fibrous strip with a resin and then such tapes are fed from spools to the core of the tube.

Composite tubular assembly and method of forming same

There is provided an electric cable insert for removably electrically connecting a cable having multiple conductors to a mating receptacle wherein the number and configuration of the cable conductors may be different from those of the sockets of the mating receptacle. The insert includes a housing open on one end to an internal cavity and having a plurality of orifices in the other end. The cable conductors connect to one side of a circuit card within the housing which conductively transitions from the number and configuration of the cable conductors to the number and configuration of the sockets of the mating receptacle. Receptacle pins extend from the opposite side of the circuit card through respective orifices in the housing for connecting to respective sockets in the mating receptacle. A compressed sealing gland disposed within the housing adjacent the circuit card provides the insert with an energized compression seal from the environment. A driver closes the end of the housing and maintains compression in the sealing gland. The cable conductors pass through respective bores in the sealing gland and in the driver.

Electrical cable insert

A conductive rope-like lead-in cable connects a seismic streamer to a towing vessel. The lead-in cable comprises a first electrical conductor at the center core of the cable for carrying a first polarity of power to the streamer for providing tensile strength to the load-in cable. A first layer of insulation surrounds the first electrical conductor. A second electrical conductor for a second polarity of power to the streamer surrounds the first layer of insulation. A second layer of insulation surrounds the second electrical conductor. A layer of seismic data conductors surrounds the second layer of insulation. A third layer of insulation surrounds the layer of seismic data conductors. A metallic protective layer surrounds the third layer of insulation. Steel is effectively and efficiently used both to provide tensile strength and for electrical power conduction.
