Provided in some embodiments is a method of distributed acoustic sensing in a subterranean well. The method including advancing a torpedo into a first portion of a wellbore of a subterranean well (the torpedo including a distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) fiber-optic (FO) umbilical that is physically coupled to a surface component and adapted to unspool from the torpedo as the torpedo advances in the wellbore, and an engine adapted to generate thrust to propel the torpedo), and activating the engine to generate thrust to propel advancement of the torpedo within a second portion of the wellbore such that at least some of the DAS FO umbilical is disposed in the second portion of the wellbore.

Subterranean well torpedo distributed acoustic sensing system and method

A method for acoustic geosteering in directional drilling is provided. The method includes measuring a response from a fiber-optic distributed acoustic sensor disposed on a bottom hole assembly and determining a location of the bottom hole assembly from seismic waves received from surface sources. A subterranean layer structure proximate to the bottom hole assembly is determined from reflections of a locally generated soundwave. Adjustments to geosteering vectors for the bottom hole assembly are determined based, at least in part, on the location and the subterranean layer structure.

Acoustic geosteering in directional drilling

Provided in some embodiments is a method of deploying a payload in a subterranean well. The method including advancing a torpedo in a first portion of a wellbore of a subterranean well (the torpedo including a body, a fiber-optic (FO) umbilical that is physically coupled to a surface component, and adapted to unspool from the torpedo as the torpedo advances in the wellbore, and an engine adapted to generate thrust to propel the torpedo), and activating the engine to generate thrust to propel advancement of the torpedo within a second portion of the wellbore such that the FO umbilical is disposed in the second portion of the wellbore.

Subterranean well thrust-propelled torpedo deployment system and method

Provided in some embodiments is a well torpedo system that includes a torpedo adapted to be advanced in a wellbore of a subterranean well. The torpedo including an integrated spool adapted to hold a fiber-optic (FO) umbilical including a FO line adapted to couple to a surface component, and an engine adapted to combust solid propellant to generate thrust to propel advancement of the torpedo in the wellbore.

Subterranean well torpedo system

A method and apparatus is provided for collecting reservoir data. The method includes providing one or more electromagnetic sources for generating an electromagnetic field in a reservoir and providing one or more electromagnetic sensors equipped with capacitive electrodes. The electromagnetic source is located separately from the electromagnetic sensor. The electromagnetic sensor may either be located within a well or at the surface, is capable of measuring the electromagnetic field in three dimensions, and may be isolated from the well fluids. The data collected by the electromagnetic sensors can be used to create a model of the oil reservoir, including the water saturation.
