A method and system for assisting mobile stations to locate a satellite use an efficient messaging format. A server computes a correction between coarse orbit data of a satellite and precise orbit data of the satellite. A coordinate system is chosen such that variation of the correction is substantially smooth over time. The server further approximates the correction with mathematical functions to reduce the number of bits necessary for transmission to a mobile station. The mobile station, upon receiving the coefficients, evaluates the mathematical functions using the coefficients and a time of applicability (e.g., the current time), converts the evaluated result to a standard coordinate system, and applies the conversion result to the coarse orbit data to obtain the precise orbit data.

Method and apparatus for position determination with extended SPS orbit information

An apparatus and method for detecting whether a mobile device is in flight based on sensor measurements from a 3-dimensional accelerometer are presented. For example, embodiments estimate a direction of gravity and non-gravity acceleration, separate this non-gravity acceleration into a vertical and horizontal components, then test the estimated accelerations to determine whether the mobile device is experiencing sufficient vertical acceleration to warrant an in-flight determination.

In flight detection

The location of a device may be determined with respect to another device. For example, a locating device may be moved as it measures at least one distance to a target device. The locating device may then generate one or more indications relating to the measured distance or distances. The locating device also may generate one or more indications relating one or more determined directions to the target device. The target device may be moved in a predetermined manner to determine the location of the target device. Each of the devices may employ a single transceiver and a single antenna for the location determination operations.

Wireless localization apparatus and method

A method for detecting a plurality of navigation beacon signals by using either two antennas or a synthetic aperture antenna for receiving a plurality of distinct measurements, and combining the plurality of distinct measurements using a plurality of antenna weight components to form an interference cancellation beam. In one embodiment, the plurality of antenna weight components is determined by eigenvalue processing. In another embodiment, the plurality of antenna weight components is determined by simplified processing. In another aspect, a single antenna is used for receiving an originally received measurement. A copy of the originally received measurement is made and processed to achieve the proper time delay to emulate spatial diversity. The originally received measurement and the processed copy are combined to form an interference cancellation beam.

Method for detecting navigation beacon signals using two antennas or equivalent thereof

A method and device for combating cross-correlation false alarms by introducing code diversity in the correlation process in which the search code may be diversified by the use of code staggering and/or code scrambling. The energy levels of the signals before and after the search code have been diversified may be evaluated to detect a false alarm. In addition, a set of parameterized analytical models may be used to estimate the rate of false alarms from cross-correlation in wireless networks in order to guide development and design of wireless transceivers.

Method and device for reducing cross-correlation false alarms in CDMA and other wireless networks

A system, method and device are provided which determine the position of a mobile station in connection with consulting signal delay transmission data from an almanac for the purpose of identifying the nearest set of base stations. Thereafter, the position of the mobile station is determined using multilateration.

Method for finding the location of a mobile terminal in a cellular radio system

Techniques for pre-correction of transmit signals are disclosed. In one aspect, a transmit antenna array configurable to generate multiple transmit beams is deployed. The parameters for configuring the antenna array are computed in response to channel estimates and a noise floor estimate made at the receiver. Information is transmitted in accordance with the multiple transmit beams, delayed as necessary, such that the multipaths may arrive time-aligned an in-phase at the receiver. In another aspect, pre-RAKE pre-correction is deployed by calculating Wiener weights. In yet another aspect, space-time diversity is deployed for calculating tap values for FIR filters used in transmission on the transmit antenna array. In yet another aspect, space only pre-correction is deployed. Various other aspects are also disclosed. These aspects have the benefit of reducing the interference experienced at a receiver, resulting in increased capacity, increased data throughput, and other system benefits.

Transmit pre-correction in a wireless communication system

Systems and techniques are disclosed relating to communications. The systems and techniques involve transmitting a signal through a first antenna, receiving feedback related to the signal transmission through the first antenna, selecting between the first antenna and a second antenna as a function of the feedback, and transmitting the signal through the selected antenna. It is emphasized that this abstract is provided to comply with the rules requiring an abstract which will allow a searcher or other reader to quickly ascertain the subject matter of the technical disclosure. It is submitted with the understanding that it will not be used to interpret or limit the scope or the meaning of the claims.

Switched antenna transmit diversity

A receiver chain () for use in a wireless communication system includes a compact, highly correlated, multi-element antenna. The multiple antenna elements () and () are configured to receive a signal from at least one base station. The highly correlated signals output from the antenna elements (and) are optimally combined in a controller () using a set of weighting factors. The set of weighting factors for each base station signal is determined in response to the spatial signatures of the received signals.

Diversity gain with a compact antenna

A wireless communication system includes a base station having a plurality of transmit antennas transmits pilot signals to a subscriber station. The subscriber station performs channel measurements on the signals received from the base station through at least two transmit paths and sends path characteristic information for each path to the base station. The base station uses the path characteristic information to determine how best to transmit data from the multiple transmit antennas to a single receive antenna at the subscriber station. Through the use of pre-correction techniques, data signals are transmitted through the multiple transmit antennas such that signals received through the multiple transmit paths can be demodulated and decoded as a single signal.
