Various embodiments virtualize data across heterogeneous formats. In one embodiment, a plurality of heterogeneous data sources is received as input. A local schema graph including a set of attribute nodes and a set of type nodes is generated for each of the plurality of heterogeneous data sources. A global schema graph is generated based on each local schema graph that has been generated. The global schema graph comprises each of the local schema graphs and at least one edge between at least one of two or more attributes nodes and two or more type nodes from different local schema graphs. The edge indicates a relationship between the data sources represented by the different local schema graphs comprising the two or more attributes nodes based on a computed similarity between at least one value associated with each of the two or more attributes nodes.

Data virtualization across heterogeneous formats

Data elements from data sources and having a data value set are linked by using hash functions to determine a dimensionally reduced instance signature for each data element based on all data values associated with that data element to yield a plurality of dimensionally reduced instance signatures of equivalent fixed size such that similarities among the data values in the data value sets across all data elements is maintained among the plurality of instance signatures. Candidate pairs of data elements to link are identified using the plurality of instance signatures in locality sensitive hash functions, and a similarity index is generated for each candidate pair using a pre-determined measure of similarity. Candidate pairs of data elements having a similarity index above a given threshold are linked.

Linking data elements based on similarity data values and semantic annotations

Methods and systems for determining schema element types are shown that include pooling potential annotations for an element of an unlabeled schema from a plurality of heterogeneous sources, scoring the pool of potential annotations according to relevancy using information using instance information from the plurality of heterogeneous sources to produce a relevancy score, and annotating the element of the unlabeled schema using the most relevant potential annotations.

Annotating schema elements based on associating data instances with knowledge base entities

A unified interface that abstracts the underlying differences among heterogeneous data sources and data formats to produce uniform search results. While the result of an initial search may be exactly what the user was seeking, it is likely that the result is in the neighborhood of what was sought. It may aid the end user to provide guided data navigation suggestions to locate related data during data exploration, by providing analysis to identify data similarities among disparate data sources, and by providing guided combination options. The guided data navigation suggestions may include suggestions based on schematic, semantic, and social information. Guided data navigation may aid the user in moving from the initial search landing point in the data to the precise result sought.

Uniform search, navigation and combination of heterogeneous data

A method and system for interfacing with an end user to search, navigate, and combine large numbers of heterogeneous data sources with varying data characteristics. End user entered search terms are received and the end user is then presented a guided exploration including search results and search result details. The end user is also presented with a guided combination including search result combination options and combination details. Both the guided exploration and guided combination render all data from the heterogeneous data sources in a uniform data format and both can culminate in saving selected results.

A computer-implemented method, system, and article of manufacture for querying and integrating structured and unstructured data. The method includes: receiving entity information that is extracted from a first set of unstructured data using an open domain information extraction system, wherein the entity in-formation comprises relationship information between a first entity and a second entity of the first set of unstructured data; recognizing a pattern based on the relationship information and creating a schema for the first set of unstructured data based on the pattern; and associating an element of the created schema with (i) an entity of a second set of unstructured data or (ii) a schema element of an existing set of structured data if there is sufficient overall similarity between the created schema element and either the second unstructured data entity or the schema element of the existing structured data.

Querying and integrating structured and unstructured data

Apparatus for detecting an overheating condition at an electrical power device and automatically breaking the circuit when the temperature exceeds a setpoint value. In various configurations the device is a receptacle adapted to be used in a wall mounted box or a receptacle unit that is plugged into an existing receptacle. A temperature sensor is wired parallel to a normally open test switch on a ground fault circuit interrupter or other circuit interrupting device. The temperature switch is responsive to the temperature local to the receptacle, such as is caused by poor connections to or in the receptacle or a near-overload condition. The temperature setpoint is less than the melting temperature of the insulation of the electrical wiring. The temperature sensor is a thermistor with a negative temperature coefficient that allows current to flow thereby latching the interrupting device in a tripped position until the device is reset for reuse.

Provided are a message brokering systems, computer program products and methods for communication in a publish/subscribe environment in which publisher application programs send messages to subscriber application programs via one or more message brokers, the method comprising the following steps: responsive to receipt of a published message at a message broker, referring to characteristics of the received message and subscriber-specified quality of service requirements to determine an appropriate quality or service for onward transmission of the message; selecting a communication protocol in accordance with the determined quality of service; and transmitting the message using the selected communication protocol. Information relating to the quality of service requirements of a first message broker's subscribers is passed to other brokers and subsequently used for selection of an appropriate communication protocol for transmitting messages between the brokers.

A method, system, and computer program for delivering messages and data to competing consumers. One aspect of the invention includes a message delivery system including a destination messaging engine, one or more receiver messaging engines, and a message pool. The destination messaging engine is configured to distribute data from one or more producers. The receiver messaging engines are configured to request data from the destination messaging engine and transmit the data to one or more consumers. The message pool is configured to store data from the producers, with the destination messaging engine arbitrating data in the message pool among the receiver messaging engines.

Mechanism for delivering messages to competing consumers in a point-to-point system

A publish/subscribe system is non-disruptively reconfigured, such that messages are not lost during the reconfiguration. After reconfiguration is initiated, messages that are to be delivered within the publish/subscribe system are forwarded using either an old path or a new path. That is, until the reconfigured system is stabilized, some messages may be delivered using the old path, while other messages are delivered using a new path. After the system is stabilized, the new path is used for delivery of all the messages, until another reconfiguration is initiated.

Non-disruptive reconfiguration of a publish/subscribe system

A technique for reliably multicasting a message within a router network is provided. At least one special router in the network has associated persistent storage for logging a message being routed to one or more clients. When a message is received at this logger node, the logger places the message in persistent storage and sends a logging acknowledgment back to those routers to which the message was originally routed, as well as back towards the source of the message. The logger acknowledgment includes the message id, the logger id, and a logging number. When the logger acknowledgment is received by a router, it looks up the routing information from the original message, and sends the acknowledgment to those neighboring routers to which the original message was sent, excluding the link from which the logger acknowledgment was received. If the original message corresponding to the logger acknowledgment was buffered at this router waiting to be delivered, the message is then delivered to its client nodes. Processes for recovering from node or link failure within the router network, and for at most once delivery of messages, at least once delivery of messages, and exactly once delivery of messages are also provided.

Message logging for reliable multicasting across a routing network

A system and method featuring a collection of model objects which hold data to be shared, and supporting interfaces to read and write the data, to create and destroy collaboration relationships and to attach 'view objects' containing application code which will be automatically notified of value changes. Each user environment is provided with a model object control entity, referred to herein as a Collaboration Manager, which creates model objects, executes transactions, and creates association objects related to the collaboration. A concurrency control mechanism records the reads and updates of the data and of collaboration relationships within a single transaction site and guarantees that they are applied atomically and consistently to both the local and to all remote replica objects of the collaboration.

System and method for providing collaborative replicated objects for synchronous distributed groupware application

An adaptive view mechanism can dynamically adapt to changing conditions and provide the benefits of both optimistic and pessimistic notifications. This can, for example, provide a consistent and jitter-free GUI to display the state of distributed replicated data objects in the presence of concurrency control conflicts and losses. In a Model-View-Controller architecture of building distributed collaborative applications where model objects are replicated at distributed sites, adaptive views can dynamically switch between behaving like pessimistic views and like optimistic views. When the number of concurrent updates is low, the adaptive views can be made to operate in an optimistic mode&#x2014;providing good responsiveness to users. However, during those periods of heavy activity, when the number of concurrent updates becomes high, the adaptive view can be made to operate in a pessimistic manner&#x2014;providing more reliable response to users. For each adaptive view, a programmer can specify a policy object that can monitor the prevailing conflict rate and loss rate as if the adaptive view were behaving optimistically. Using these rates, the policy object can apply arbitrary application logic or thresholds to determine whether it is beneficial for the adaptive view to behave optimistically or pessimistically. The policy object can then request the adaptive view to dynamically adapt its behavior to the appropriate manner. In general however, the dynamic switching can be based on any application specific request to switch modes. Distributed sites that have replicated copies of the same model object can view the replica heterogeneously, that is, pessimistically, optimistically, or adaptively, according to the user's requirements.
