Systems and methods for estimating a likelihood of an object element in a given position in a subsurface volume of interest are disclosed. Exemplary implementations may: obtain target subsurface data from the subsurface volume of interest; obtain an object element set corresponding to the subsurface volume of interest; generate correlation values as a function of position in the subsurface volume of interest by applying the object filters to the target subsurface data; and generate object element likelihood values by applying the object templates to positions in the subsurface volume of interest corresponding to the correlation values.

A computer implemented method for identifying reservoir facies in a subsurface region includes obtaining a set of seismic data points of both petrophysical and geophysical parameters relating to the subsurface region, identifying one or more correlated clusters of petrophysical parameters, generating, from the one or more correlated clusters of petrophysical parameters, one or more corresponding multi-dimensional clusters of seismic data points, storing, in a facies database, a multi-dimensional cluster center point for at least one multi-dimensional clusters, and recursively splitting the multi-dimensional clusters into distinct sub-clusters of seismic data points corresponding to facies types.

System and method for reservoir facies classification that segments both petrophysical and geophysical properties

Depth-averaged flow simulation systems and methods provided herein employ parameterized templates for dynamical depth profiling for at least one step of a simulation. In one illustrative computer-based embodiment, the simulation method includes, for each map point at one given time step: determining a flow template and a sediment concentration template based on depth-averaged flow velocity and depth-averaged sediment concentrations of different classes of grain size for that map point; employing the templates to construct a vertically-distributed flow velocity profile and vertically-distributed sediment concentration profiles for associated classes of grain size for that map point, thereby obtaining 3D flow velocity and 3D sediment concentration fields; using the 3D fields to calculate fluid and sediment fluxes; updating the flow velocity and sediment concentration profiles based on the divergence of the fluxes; integrating the profiles to compute updated depth-averaged flow velocity and sediment concentrations and center of gravity; and solving the depth-averaged flow equations for the next time step.

Sediment transport simulation with parameterized templates for depth profiling

A new gridding method is disclosed for forward stratigraphic modeling that allows for syndepositional and/or postdepositional fault movement. The new gridding algorithm may represent both the lateral move of structure block, and provide efficiency that is comparable to the structured grid for forward stratigraphy model accessing previous deposited sediments stored in the grid. Embodiments of the disclosed methods allow for structural moves by performing a set of simple operations on the grid. The operations are generally simple, and do not change the overall topology of the grid. Therefore the operation can be easily repeated and the overall topological structure of the grid remains largely unchanged for simple access by the forward stratigraphic model. Further details and advantages of various embodiments of the method are described in more herein.

Method of stratigraphic modeling of faults

A computer-based method of conditioning reservoir model data includes performing a modeling process within a 3D stratigraphic grid to generate an initial model including one or more facies objects within the model volume, the modeling process including parametric distributions, initial and boundary conditions as well as depositional and erosional events to define the facies objects within the model volume. The mismatch between this initial model and the conditioning well data and potential input trend model is applied to compute a locally variable constraint model. The method further includes executing a multiple point statistics simulation with this constraint model that varies between completely constrained by the initial model at locations where the initial model is consistent with known well data and potential input trend models, and unconstrained by the initial model at locations where the initial model does not match known well data or potential input trend models to allow conformance to the known data.

Conditioning of object or event based reservior models using local multiple-point statistics simulations

A system for and computer implemented method for analysis of data representative of subsurface properties of a subsurface region. The method includes transforming the data representative of subsurface properties of the subsurface region into transformed data in accordance with a selected criterion. A three dimensional window geometry to be applied to the transformed data is selected, based, at least in part, on expected feature sizes present, data sampling density and a size of the subsurface region. A plurality of values for a three dimensional lacunarity statistic are calculated by applying the selected three dimensional window geometry to randomly selected regions of the subsurface region, and correlating the calculated values to the subsurface properties of the subsurface region.

System and method for lacunarity analysis

A process-based model of a geological volume of interest is generated. The process-based model is conditioned with conditioning information associated with the geological volume of interest. Statistics are generated from the process-based model that represent parameters of the geological volume of interest locally. These statistics are used to constrain one or more geostatistical models of the geological volume of interest.

A model of a geologic volume of interest that represents the geological architecture of the geologic volume of interest is generated. The model is generated as a series of geologic events at a string of points in geologic time such that each event is deposited or eroded sequentially. A given geologic event is determined based on the topological and/or geological properties of the geologic volume of interest at the time of the geologic event, environmental conditions present at the time of the geologic event that impact geologic formation, deposition, and/or erosion, and/or other considerations. The given geologic event is further determined to honor, at least somewhat, local conditioning data that has been obtained during direct measurements of the geological parameters (and/or trends therein) within the geologic volume of interest.

System and method for modeling a geologic volume of interest

Wellbore data samples related to a subsurface volume of interest are weighted based on wellbore orientation and/or stratal orientation. Declustering weights are determined that account for differences in sampling density caused by wellbore and/or stratal structure orientation. The declustering weights may be implemented to weight samples of parameters taken within wellbores, and/or to update or adjust other weights determined according to other schemes.

A system configured to model geometric architectures of flow events in geological reservoirs. In one embodiment, the system comprises a geological control input, a rules module, and a modeling module. The geological control input is configured to receive a set of environmental conditions that act as geological controls impacting a geometric architecture of a geological reservoir at a point in geologic time. The rules module is configured to apply a set of rules to the set of environmental conditions present at the point in geologic time to determine geometric flow parameters of the geometric architecture, wherein the set of rules comprise one or more empirical rules. The modeling module is configured to model the geometric architecture based on the geometric flow parameters determined for the flow event by the rules module.

System and method for modeling flow events responsible for the formation of a geological reservoir

The geological architecture of a geologic volume of interest is estimated through the generation and/or selection of one or more numerical analog models of the geologic volume of interest that represent characteristics of the geologic volume of interest as a function of position within the geologic volume of interest. The estimation of geological architecture of the geologic volume of interest may be implemented in reservoir exploration and/or development.
