Current flowing through an inductor on a primary side of a voltage converter is sensed and compared to a threshold peak current value to determine when to end an ON portion of the voltage converter. The secondary side of the voltage converter supplies an indication of output voltage for use in determining the threshold peak current value. On start-up the primary side detects when the indication of output voltage is supplied by the secondary side across on isolation channel. Prior to detecting the indicating is being supplied, the primary side uses an increasing threshold peak current as the threshold peak current value. After detection that the indication of output voltage is being provided by the secondary side, the threshold peak current value is based on the indication of the output voltage.

Soft-start for isolated power converter

An apparatus for communicating using an isolation channel includes a transmitter circuit having a first terminal configured to communicate a first signal. The first signal oscillates in response to a data signal having a first signal level and is constant in response to the data signal having a second signal level. The transmitter circuit includes a second terminal configured to communicate that oscillates in response to the data signal having the second signal level and is constant in response to the data signal having the first signal level. The apparatus may include a receiver circuit configured to generate a recovered data signal having a first transition in a first direction between first and second levels based on an edge of a first received signal and having a second transition in a second direction between the first and second levels based on an edge of a second received signal.

Techniques for reduced jitter in digital isolators

An apparatus for controlling a high-power drive device external to a package of a motor drive circuit includes a motor drive circuit. The motor drive circuit includes a driver to control the high-power drive device based on a first reference voltage, a second reference voltage, and a control signal based on a received control signal. A fault circuit generates a failure indicator based on a voltage across terminals of the high-power drive device. A fault condition is based on the failure indicator. A first terminal coupled to the driver charges a node of the high-power drive device over a first length of time in response to an absence of the fault condition and a first level of the control signal. A second terminal coupled to the driver discharges the node over a second length of time different from the first length of time.

Soft shutdown for isolated drivers

An apparatus includes a first terminal, a second terminal, a bi-directional regulator circuit, and functional circuitry. The bi-directional regulator circuit generates a voltage across a first power supply node and a second power supply node in response to an input current flowing through the first terminal and the second terminal with a first polarity. The bi-directional regulator circuit also generates the voltage across the first power supply node and the second power supply node in response to the input current flowing through the first terminal and the second terminal with a second polarity opposite the first polarity. The functional circuitry is powered by the voltage and is configured to generate a signal using the voltage. The signal is indicative of the input current in response to the input current being supplied to the first terminal and is indicative of the input current in response to presence of the input current.

Isolator including bi-directional regulator

Common mode transient immunity for an isolation system is improved by using a common transient suppression circuit coupled to a receive circuit to suppress transients in signals received by the receive circuit that were transmitted from a transmit side of the isolation barrier using optical, magnetic, inductive, or other mechanisms.

Suppression of transients in communications across an isolation barrier

An analog signal is transported across an isolation channel using edge modulation/demodulation of a pulse width modulated (PWM) signal. An edge modulator is responsive to rising edges of the PWM signal to generate first pulses having a first predetermined pulse width and is responsive to receipt of falling edges of the PWM signal to generate second pulses having a second predetermined pulse width with the same polarity as the first pulses. On the opposite side of the isolation channel an edge demodulating circuit recreates the PWM signal using the first and second pulses. The rise and falling edges of the PWM signals can be distinguished based on the pulse width of the first and second pulses. A second order pulse width modulator may be used to generate the PWM signal.

Transport of an analog signal across an isolation barrier

A first integrated circuit die receives input data from a plurality of input channels and combines the input data from the plurality of input channels into combined data. The first integrated circuit die transmits the combined data across an isolation communication channel. A second integrated circuit die that is coupled to the isolation communication channel decodes the transmitted combined data and supplies the decoded transmitted combined data to respective output channels corresponding to the input channels.

Isolated serializer-deserializer

An isolation receiver includes at least one isolation capacitor to provide a first logic signal in response to a second logic signal that is provided by a transmitter. The receiver includes a signal processing circuit to amplify the first logic signal to generate an amplified signal, and the signal processing circuit includes a an amplifier to apply a nonlinear function. A comparator of the receiver provides a third logic signal in response to the amplified signal.

Isolation receiver

A method and apparatus for determining an RC (resistive-capacitive) time constant is disclosed. In one embodiment, a method comprises determining a first period of oscillation when an oscillator is operating in a first configuration. The method further comprises determining a second period of oscillation when the oscillator is operating in a second configuration. A measurement circuit is configured to determine a resistive-capacitive (RC) time constant of the oscillator by determining a mean of the first and second periods.

RC calibration using chopping

One aspect of the present invention is directed to a circuit that includes an amplifier circuit disposed between an isolation link and a Schmitt trigger circuit to amplify a differential signal communicated over the isolation link and supply the amplified signal to the Schmitt trigger circuit. In turn, the Schmitt trigger circuit is coupled to the amplifier circuit to receive the differential signal and to supply a differential output signal corresponding to the differential signal communicated over the isolation link.

In one embodiment, an apparatus includes a voltage regulator, an amplifier, and control logic. The regulator may receive a supply voltage and output a regulated voltage to an intermediate node. In turn, the amplifier is to be powered by the regulated voltage, while the control logic is coupled to the voltage regulator to cause a change in the regulated voltage to a safe voltage before one or more gain stages of the amplifier is to be coupled to or decoupled from an output signal path.

Managing power supply transients

In one embodiment, a subscriber line interface circuit includes circuitry to generate metering pulses for insertion onto a subscriber line. The circuitry includes an audio path and a pulse metering path, where the pulse metering path includes a metering generator to generate a digital sine wave from a plurality of stored values, a first interpolator to interpolate the digital sine wave, a filter to filter the interpolated digital sine wave, and a second interpolator to interpolate the filtered interpolated digital sine wave.

Method and apparatus for generating a metering pulse

A method of calibrating longitudinal balance for a subscriber line interface circuit includes providing a first and a second driver of a differential driver pair for driving a subscriber line. An output of each of the first and second drivers is coupled to a common output. The common output is coupled to an input of the first driver. The gain of at least one of the first and second drivers is adjusted until a calibration signal (V) present at the input of the first driver is substantially the same as a calibration signal (V) present at the input of the second driver.
