A downhole wellbore isolation tool includes an elastomeric sealing element for engaging a casing member or another tubular member in a wellbore. The isolation tool includes one or more expandable slips for gripping the tubular member and holding the isolation tool in place. The sealing element has an axial end in direct contact with an abutment surface of the expandable slip such that the slip limits, if not eliminates, unwanted extrusion of the sealing element, e.g., upon setting of the isolation tool. The expandable slips may be constructed of a plurality of slip elements, and the elastomeric sealing element may flow into gaps defined between the slip elements when the isolation tool is set. The slip segments and other components of the isolation tool may be constructed of a dissolvable material to facilitate removal of the isolation tool from the wellbore.

Downhole tools including at least one component made of a doped magnesium alloy solid solution that at least partially degrades in the presence of an electrolyte. The downhole tool is selected from the group consisting of a wellbore isolation device, a completion tool, a drill tool, a testing tool, a slickline tool, a wireline tool, an autonomous tool, a tubing conveyed perforating tool, and any combination thereof.

A plug for sealing a well in oil and gas recovery operations, and a method of removing the plug from the well is provided. The method is an erosion method of dislodging the plug from the wellbore, and the plug is designed so as to better be removed through erosion. The plug includes a jetting component to direct an abrasive fluid during the erosion method.

An example downhole tool for use in a wellbore lined with casing includes a wellbore isolation device that provides a plurality of components including a mandrel that defines a central flow passage that allows fluid flow in at least one direction through the wellbore isolation device, the wellbore isolation device providing an inner diameter and an outer diameter. A minimum production flow area is provided across the wellbore isolation device and is determined by at least one of: a flow area across the wellbore isolation device that is at least 1/16 a total flow area of the casing at a location of the wellbore isolation device within the wellbore, and a flow area resulting from the inner diameter being at least 25% of the outer diameter. At least the mandrel is made of a slowly degradable material that degrades when exposed to a wellbore environment.

A setting apparatus for use on a downhole tool in a wellbore is described. The setting apparatus comprises an expandable member configured for axial expansion under fluid pressure wherein said expansion moves said downhole tool from an unset position to a set position. Generally, the fluid will be a gas generated downhole and can be generated near or in the expandable member.
