Apparatus and methods are taught to optically fuse first output light containing visual data with second output light emitted from a night vision device. A waveguide display is aligned relative to an eyepiece of the night vision device. When the waveguide display is in an ON state and second output light exits the eyepiece, the second output light passes through the waveguide display. A display has an input and is configured to receive a display input signal containing visual data. The display is configured to emit light responsive to the display input signal. An optical device is disposed between the display and the waveguide display. The optical device couples emitted light from the display into the waveguide display. When in the ON state, the waveguide display emits first output light which optically fuses with second output light.

Head mounted display

A compact, lightweight, multi-wavelength display system which can be used for simultaneous viewing with both eyes is provided. The system utilizes a field flattener lens to remove abrasions introduced by the system's lenses. The system also uses a polarization selective optical element that reflects one linear polarization state while transmitting radiation of the orthogonal linear polarization state. The PS element is used in combination with a quarter wave plate and an optical element, the optical element including a partially reflective surface. The optical element may either be a single element or an optical doublet. In the latter configuration, the partially reflective surface is at the interface between the two singlets that comprise the doublet. The system also includes an image source that either alone, or in combination with other optical elements, produces circularly polarized light of the desired rotary sense.

Biocular compact collimation apparatus

Use of a filter in lieu of a secondary reflector in a reflective telescope provides compact design that eliminates the obstruction caused by the secondary reflector. The filter is selectively reflective to either the angle of incidence of radiation striking the filter or to the polarization exhibited by the radiation. An angularly sensitive filter may be constructed to either a bandpass filter or a short pass filter. A filter that is sensitive to polarization is constructed from a cholesteric liquid crystal. The filter is disposed in front of a primary reflector that comprises an aperture for collecting radiation observed by the telescope.
