In one embodiment, the dressing has a base which is to be adhered to a patient about a catheter site, an aperture in the base to pull a catheter line through and a cover with a window that is folded over and onto the base in a sealed manner. In another embodiment, the dressing has two covers with windows for folding over separate sections of a base to seal in the components of a catheter assembly with multiple catheters extending from a common housing.

Dressing

The wound protector has an annularly collapsible proximal ring and a flexible sleeve extends between the proximal ring and distal ring. After positioning of the distal ring in a wound, the proximal ring is expanded to draw the sleeve taut between the rings and is drawn tight against the wound. In one embodiment, the proximal ring includes a bent hollow tube with an arcuate rod in the tube bridging the open ends of the tube and a compression spring extending within the tube against the ends of the rod to bias the proximal ring into an extended state. Finger grips on the ends of the tube allow for squeezing of the tube into a collapsed state.

Wound protector

The dressing has a first section that includes a bubble for covering over a housing of a Huber needle embedded in a patient and a second section that folds over the first section to encase a tubing of the Huber needle between the two sections. A slit is formed in the first section to allow passage of the tubing. In one embodiment, an insert of foam material is provided in the bubble to rigidify the bubble.

A device for the drainage of a pleural effusion through an operatively engaged chest tube in the chest wall. The device employs a check valve situated between a vacuum source communicating with the chest tube to prevent reversal of the fluid flow out of the patient's body and possible contamination. A valve mounted on a vacuum bottle provides user control of communication of negative pressure from the vacuum bottle to the chest tube. Opening the valve on the bottle communicates negative pressure to the chest tube relative to the pressure in the tube thereby initiating a fluid flow out of the tube and the patient. Once the valve on the bottle is closed, fluid flow ceases and the check valve prevents reversal of the flow.

Method and apparatus for treatment of pleural effusion

The safety shield is comprised a one piece body, e.g. of biocompatible plastic, having a hollow stemand a disc-shaped collarextending radially outwardly from one end of the hollow stem. The safety shield is mounted by the user in friction fit manner in a hub of an implanted needle and serves as a guide for the insertion of a biopsy needle into the implanted needle.

The wound protector has an annularly collapsible distal ring, an expansion member and a flexible sleeve extending between the distal ring and expansion member. After positioning of the distal ring in a wound, movement of the expansion member into an extended state expands the sleeve while drawing the sleeve tight against the wound and the expansion member against the patient.

The dressing has a pad for adhesive securement to a patient that includes a bubble for covering over a housing of a Huber needle assembly embedded in the patient. A slit is formed in the pad to allow passage of the tubing of the Huber needle assembly. In one embodiment, an insert of foam material is provided in the bubble to rigidify the bubble. A second section may also be provided for folding over the pad to encase the tubing, catheter and clamp of the Huber needle assembly.

Dresssing

A braceletcomprised of multiple strands has at least one bridge, for example three bridges, slidably disposed on the strands to connect the strands in spaced apart relation to prevent entwining of the strands with each other. Each bridge has a pair of bodies of toric shape connected by a rigid bar and each bridge may be shaped and/or colored to lend aesthetic value to the appearance of the bracelet.

Strand jewelry device

A safety needle assembly is described, including a cap, a housing movable relative to the cap from a first position adjacent the cap to an extended second position spaced from the cap, a hollow needle secured in and extending from the housing, and a collapsible sheath secured to both the cap and the housing. The sheath is concentrically disposed about the needle in a collapsed state with the housing in the first position. The sheath is extendable from the collapsed state to an extended state in response to movement of the housing from the first position to the second position.

A one-piece connector for removing a housing and needle of a Huber needle assembly from a patient. The connector has a frame that can be positioned about a surface on the housing of the needle assembly and a pair of wings that pivot toward one another to provide a gripping surface.

In one embodiment, the wound protector has an annularly collapsible proximal ring and a flexible sleeve extends between the proximal ring and distal ring. After positioning of the distal ring in a wound, the proximal ring is expanded to draw the sleeve taut between the ringsand is drawn tight against the wound. In a second embodiment, the wound protector has a flexible sleeve secured between a distal ring and proximal ring of fixed diameters. In addition, an expansion member is disposed within a loop of the flexible sleeve about the proximal ring. After positioning of the distal ring in a wound, movement of the expansion member into an extended diametric state expands the loop in the sleeve diametrically while drawing the rings towards each other.

The microbial scrub brush in one embodiment employs an insert that is impregnated with an anti-bacterial disinfectant and that is housed within a housing of alcohol-compatible material and sealed over by a removable lid. The insert is maintained in sterile condition until ready for use. After removal of the lid, the insert is moved over the end of a female luer or other portion of a medical device and rotated in order to clean the exterior surface as well as the interior luminal surface of the device. In one embodiment, the scrub brush integrally includes both a cleansing portion with a cleansing insert to cleanse a part of a medical device and a protection portion with a cover component to cover and protect the cleansed medical device part from subsequent contamination. The cleansing insert includes a plurality of compliant fingers to ensure adequate cleansing of the medical device part.

The evacuation system employs a piston to deliver fluid for irrigating and aspirating a body cavity, such as a bladder. A pivotal screen is disposed across the flow path of the fluid to move out of the fluid flow path during irrigation of the bladder and to move back into the flow path during aspiration of the bladder. The screen screens out particulate matter from the return flow for depositing into the container of the system.
