An intelligent telephone network provides personalized communication services based on a voice identification of the subscriber. Specifically, when a person requests a service, the network executes a speech processing operation, to identify the person or a party that the person is calling as a known subscriber. One or more switching offices of the network utilize profile data associated with the identified subscriber to control services. The personalized service applies both to incoming and outgoing calls. The network can provide the personalized services to several subscribers sharing a common line. For incoming calls to such a line, the network executes an interactive procedure to determine from the caller which subscriber she is calling. If the line is free, the switch applies distinctive ringing. If the line is in use, the switch uses the profile of the identified subscriber to provide a distinctive call waiting tone or a voice message over the line. The tone or voice message indicates to the party using the line that there is a call waiting and specifically identifies the called subscriber. For outgoing calls, the network utilizes a voice verification procedure to identify the actual subscriber. The subscriber's profile controls network processing of the call, including the provision of personal subscriber identification for caller ID, both on ringing calls and with call waiting alert signals.

Personal dial tone service with personalized call waiting

An intelligent telephone network provides personalized communication services based on a voice identification of the subscriber. The network executes a speech processing operation to identify the person or a party that the person is calling as a known subscriber. The network can provide personalized services to several subscribers sharing a common line. For incoming calls to such a line, the network executes an interactive procedure to determine from the caller which subscriber is being called. If the line is free, the switch applies distinctive ringing. If the line is in use, the switching office uses the profile of the identified subscriber to provide a distinctive call waiting tone or a voice message over the line. The tone or voice message indicates to the party using the line that there is a call waiting and specifically identifies the called subscriber.

A communication service loads subscriber profile information corresponding to an intended call recipient in a call processing register of a switch serving a link to a destination station and transmits a distinct predetermined call alert signal over the link to the destination station based on the loaded subscriber service profile information. The distinct call alert signal identifies the intended recipient subscriber.

Interconnect traffic between local exchange carrier (LECs) networks and other carrier networks, particularly competitive local exchange carrier (CLEC) networks, dictates a need for efficient monitoring and analysis of the interconnect traffic. In accord with the invention, monitor equipment on the LEC network captures call related messages produced by the LEC network and compiles data from those messages to form call detail records for the interconnect traffic. These records are loaded into a relational database. A data preparation routine enhances the data, for example, by translating certain codes from the records into more useful text and by spreading or binning usage over predefined time intervals. An on-line analytical processing program runs one or more applications to allow the LEC to analyze the interconnect traffic between the LEC network and the other carrier's network. The analysis provides useful traffic data for accounting purposes, e.g. for use in determining jurisdictional factors for reciprocal compensation calculations. The data also enables the LEC to engineer upgrades of the network to provide cost effective service for the traffic to and from the other carrier's network.

Internetwork telephony with enhanced features

An intelligent telephone network provides personalized communication services based on subscriber prescribed double speech signal processing of utterances of both calling and answering parties on a subscriber line having multiple subscribers with a single directory number. Specifically, when one of the multiple subscribers has personalized voice mail service and a busy/no answer call is received, the network uses speech processing of an utterance of the calling party to identify a customer service profile of the called party in the terminating switch. This contains instructions inviting storage of a voice message left by the caller. Upon the subscriber going off-hook, the customer profile of the subscriber line is installed in the switch. The subscriber transmits an utterance and the personalized customer profile of the subscriber is identified by a virtual office equipment number and the profile installed in the switch. The subscriber may then retrieve the stored message.

Providing enhanced services through SIV and personal dial tone

The central office switch that is servicing the call receives the virtual office equipment number and uses that number to retrieve profile data associated with the subscriber including subscriber prescribed processing routine. The central office switch provides a personalized form of service to the subscriber by processing the call using the retrieved profile data. As part of this service, the switch and the network provide individualized double voice identification to provide identification of the premises location and address of an unidentified caller. The service further provides recording of the call and automatic transmission of the location of the calling party to police as well as bridging of the call to police monitoring and/or recording.

Providing enhanced services through double SIV and personal dial tone

A telephone network provides personalized services based on voice identification of a person making or receiving a call. For example, when a person initiates a call, the network executes a speaker identification/verification procedure to identify the person as a subscriber. The identification/verification process provides a virtual office equipment number corresponding to the identified subscriber. The central office switch servicing the outgoing call receives this virtual number and uses it to retrieve a service profile associated with the subscriber. The switch provides a personalized telephone service to the subscriber during processing of the call, using the retrieved service profile. The personalized service may include a number of unique features, such as recording call related data together with data about the identification of the person. For home incarceration or the like, the service may entail monitoring speech communications to detect certain designated words and automatically terminate the call.

A voice mail system includes SS7 signaling capabilities to communicate on a telephone signaling network. The voice mail system uses those capabilities to obtain routing information, for sending a recorded message to a destination mail system, by sending a query message to either a destination central office storing called party profile information or an intelligent signaling transfer point (ISTP) storing the called party profile information. The voice mail system records a voice mail message from a subscriber, and collects a destination telephone number indicating the intended recipient of the recorded message. The voice mail system generates a query message, and receives a response message via the signaling network from a non-AIN database, such as the destination central office or the ISTP. The voice mail system then initiates a line-sided connection with the destination voice mail system, and either sends SS7 signaling messages to identify the called party if the destination voice mail system has SS7 capabilities, or generates DTMF tones representing the called number when prompted.

Personal dial tone

A method, system, and product for communicating data text messages, such as E-Mail, between computers connected to a network while providing selectable degrees of security for each message. The methodology comprises the procedure of creating in the originating computer a data message having a header which specifies, in addition to the address of the intended recipient computer, one or more security parameters which control the processing of the data message in the recipient computer. The security parameters include instructions for erasure of the data message following its storage in the recipient computer. The security parameters also include instructions as to whether or not copying, archiving, forwarding and printing of the data message is permitted. The recipient computer processes the data message in accord with the instructions. The erasure is of such a nature as to render the data message irretrievable following erasure.

Electronic mail security

The present invention uses capabilities of the advanced intelligent network (AIN) to control an authentication process of caller ID information data generated at a calling PBX system. The central office switching facility associated with the calling PBX system identifies calls therefrom that contain caller ID numbers that are not the PBX assigned telephone number. For such calls, the switching facility invokes triggers through the AIN common channel signaling network to access data base information in an Integrated Service Control Point (ISCP) and/or system LIDB for authenticating and controllably transmitting caller ID information. Unauthenticated information may be blocked or transmitted with notice that the information has not been authenticated.

PBX selective caller identification authentication

A universal or multi-purpose network server having enhanced processing functions which are performed in association with a telecommunicatons network to provide multi-mode communications via a combination of the public switched telephone network (PSTN) and a public packet data network, such as the Internet. The improved network server includes a multiplicity of application processing units optimized for the processing of specific signal types. The type of signals being handled by the server is ascertained by means of a passive monitor and each type of signal is switched to an application processor on the basis of the signal type identified by the passive monitor. The processor places the processed signal in the protocol of the public packet data network and delivers that signal to a router connected to the public packet data network. Provision is made for establishing the availability of a called party through a control network before establishing an end to end communication link.

The advanced intelligent network (GAIN) is used to allow a calling party to specify what caller ID information to send to the called party for display. The telephone system Line Identification Data Base (LIB) contains listings for subscribers that may each include a plurality of assigned telephone numbers and names. On an individual call basis, a calling subscriber can control what information is to be extracted from LIB for identification to the called party. Various identification options may be pre-established, the caller invoking a selected option by dialing a corresponding access code with the dialed telephone number.
