A system to reduce a count of satellite gateways is disclosed. The system includes: a feeder link capacity of a satellite; a spectrum ranging from 26.5 GHz to 75 GHz; a gateway feeder link capacity that is an aggregate of capacities of channels defined in the spectrum; and RF gateways communicating with the satellite via the channels, wherein the count of the satellite gateways is less than or equal to a rounded-up integer of the feeder link capacity divided by the gateway feeder link capacity, and the satellite is a geosynchronous orbit satellite.

Antenna structure for satellite-communications gateway

A satellite-communications gateway includes a pedestal, a hub movably coupled to the pedestal and supported by the pedestal, an antenna configured for satellite communications, first electronics positioned inside the hub, and second electronics communicatively coupled to the first electronics and positioned inside the pedestal. The antenna is mounted to the hub and supported by the pedestal via the hub. The first electronics is arranged to convert a radio-frequency signal from the antenna to an intermediate-frequency signal and transmit the intermediate-frequency signal to the second electronics. The second electronics is arranged to convert the intermediate-frequency signal to a digital signal.

Satellite-communications gateway

A system and method for providing backup recovery from outage at a primary gateway in a satellite communication system. Upon detecting an alert indicative of an outage, communication between the primary gateway and a plurality of terminals located within spot beams serviced by the primary gateway is suspended. A pre-switchover routine is performed to initialize a backup gateway capable of being substituted for the primary gateway, and a switchover routine is performed to transfer operations from the primary gateway to the backup gateway. Communication is subsequently enabled between the backup gateway and the plurality of terminals.

System and apparatus for disaster backup gateway for a multi-gateway spot beam satellite

A system comprises a modem, configured to transmit data modulated based on an intermediate frequency within one of a C, X, or Ku band, and a single-stage block-up converter having an input electrically coupled via one inter-facility link cable to the modem, and an output electrically coupled to a high-power amplifier. The single-stage block-up-converter is configured to up-convert the intermediate frequency to a satellite communication frequency within the Ka, Q, or V band.
