In accordance with embodiments of the present disclosure, a controller may be communicatively coupled to each of a plurality of slots and configured to identify the type of module received in each of the plurality of slots, and, based on one or more deterministic rules, assign each particular peripheral node type module to a corresponding compute node type module such that information handling resources of the particular peripheral type node are used by a compute node on the corresponding compute node type module as a peripheral of the compute node.

Methods and systems for associating peripheral information handling resources to compute nodes in a modular information system chassis

An information handling system is set forth which includes a fully connected 4S topology that can also be populated with two processors and two link modules (e.g., two passive 'slugs') to implement a fully connected 2S topology. More specifically, the link module is a printed circuit board that implements a loopback connection between certain links of the architecture. In certain embodiment, the link module includes no electrical components. The link module merely includes a set of electrical connections (e.g., copper traces) connecting pads (e.g., gold plated pads) on a thick printed circuit board (PCB) dielectric material that is shaped to fit the processor socket. The link module is used to carry user data when the information handling system is configured in a 2S topology. The link module includes proper lane assignment that allows the module to be passive without performance reduction.

Optimized two-socket/four-socket server architecture

A system includes power supply units (PSUs) to supply power to components. For each PSU, a power conversion efficiency profile is determined. A maximum amount of power consumed during operation of the components is determined. A minimum number of PSUs capable of providing the maximum amount of power is determined. A first amount of power consumed at inputs of the minimum number of PSUs is calculated based on the maximum amount of power and based on the determined power conversion efficiency profile of each of the PSUs. A first number of PSUs to engage is determined, the first number greater than the minimum number of PSUs, wherein a total amount of power consumed at inputs of the first number of PSUs during operation of the system is less than the first amount of power, the determining based on the power conversion efficiency profile of each PSU.

Power supply engagement and method therefor

Information handling system network addresses are managed based on the location of the information handling system. For example, a blade information handling system chassis has network addresses stored in persistent memory and associated with each of plural slots. A blade information handling system inserted in a slot receives network addresses associated with the slot from a chassis management controller. A baseboard management controller of the blade information handling system receives the network addresses and applies the network addresses to power up networking components to communicate over a network with the network addresses, such as MAC addresses or WWN addresses.

System and method for assigning addresses to information handling systems

An information handling system includes a plurality of power supply units (PSUs) to supply power to one or more system components. For each PSU of the plurality of PSUs, a power conversion efficiency profile for the PSU is determined using a power management control module of the information handling system. The power conversion efficiency profile represents a power conversion efficiency of the PSU for each of one or more power outputs capable of being supplied by the PSU. The power management control module determines a total amount of power to be supplied to a load of the information handling system, and engages a select number of PSUs to provide the total amount of power based on the total amount of power and the power conversion efficiency profiles of the PSUs.

A system and method of enabling a transparent Ethernet switch are disclosed. According to an aspect, a network switch is disclosed. The network switch can include a plurality of physical ports configured to communicate data via a network. The network switch can further include a memory configured to store a first forwarding database, and a plurality of aggregate zone entries within the first forwarding database. The aggregate zone entries can also include a port identifier of first port of the plurality of physical ports to be used as a transparent port within a first aggregate zone.

System and method of enabling a transparent Ethernet switch

Systems and methods for power management in an information handling system are disclosed. A method may include determining a power requirement of resources configured to receive power from a plurality of power supply units including one or more online power supply units, one or more redundant power supply units, and one or more standby power supply units. The method may also include determining a power capacity of the one or more online power supply units. The method may additionally include determining if the power capacity of the one or more online power supply units exceeds the power requirement of the resources. The method may further include transitioning at least one of the power supply units based on such determining steps.

System and method for managing power supply units

Information handling system network addresses are managed to support a consistent MAC address for iSCSI and fiber channel host bus adapter. For example, a management controller retrieves a MAC address from persistent memory, such as a network location, and assigns the MAC address to a non-persistent memory of a predetermined information handling system network component so that the MAC address remains consistent even if the network component is replaced. For example, an offload engine that supports network communications with iSCSI receives a MAC address from a network location and applies the MAC address for use by a host bus adapter. Alternatively, an offload engine supports Fiber Channel with World Wide Name or World Wide Identifier address assignments.
