A vehicle includes an internal combustion engine having at least one cylinder bank, an exhaust system having a catalyst, and an engine control system with a controller configured to perform an operation to protect the catalyst during a cylinder misfire event. The operation includes monitoring and counting a number of cylinder misfires on each cylinder bank, determining if the cylinder misfire count exceeds a predetermined threshold count, and when the cylinder misfire count exceeds the predetermined threshold count in a particular cylinder bank, subsequently (i) setting a reduced engine torque limit and (ii) operating the particular cylinder bank in a stoichiometric fuel/air ratio, to thereby facilitate preventing excessively high temperatures at the catalyst due to the misfire event.

An apparatus for controlling power for a fuel injector includes a fuel injector configured to inject fuel to a cylinder of an engine and a powertrain control module generating a bypass enable signal or a boost enable based on the engine cranking signal. A bypass voltage circuit is electrically coupled to the fuel injector and is configured to provide a system voltage of a vehicle to the fuel injector during a bypass enable signal. A boost voltage circuit is electrically coupled to the fuel injector and configured to increase a system voltage of a vehicle to a boosted voltage during the boost enable signal, wherein the boosted voltage is higher than the system voltage.

A vehicle launch control technique includes obtaining a desired launch torque curve and a desired launch speed, performing a pre-staging procedure including generating a torque reserve for a powertrain, in response to paddle shifters being a first configuration and accelerator and brake pedals being fully depressed and then controlling vehicle positioning/movement in response to driver manipulation of the brake pedal, performing a staging procedure including (a) increasing the torque reserve, (b) activating a trans brake feature to hold the vehicle stationary, and (c) increasing a speed of the powertrain to the desired launch speed, in response to (i) the paddle shifters in a different second configuration and (ii) fully releasing the brake pedal, and after the staging procedure and in response to the paddle shifters being in a different third configuration, executing a vehicle launch procedure by depleting the torque reserve according to the desired launch torque curve.

A vehicle launch control technique includes providing a driver interface configured to display information to and input from a driver of the vehicle and a controller in communication with the driver interface, determining a maximum available torque curve for the powertrain based on current conditions, displaying, at the driver interface, the maximum available torque curve, receiving, from the driver via the driver interface, a desired launch speed for the powertrain, receiving, from the driver via the driver interface, a desired torque curve for the powertrain, wherein the desired torque curve changes in response to changes to the desired launch speed, generating, in response to a command via the driver interface, a final desired torque curve for the powertrain, and performing launch control of the vehicle by controlling the powertrain of the vehicle according to the final desired torque curve.

Systems and methods of controlling operation of a vehicle engine are provided. For instance, one example aspect of the present disclosure is directed to determining a spark timing associated with a combustion engine. For instance, a combustion phasing target to be implemented by a combustion engine can be received. A spark timing associated with the combustion engine can be determined based at least in part on the combustion phasing target. The spark timing can be determined based at least in part on an optimization comprising one or more iterations determined during an engine cycle. The spark timing is determined based at least in part on a combustion phasing prediction model determined based at least in part on at least one of laminar flame speed, residual gas mass, or turbulent intensity.

A vehicle system includes a first sensor that provides first data indicating at least one of vehicle speed and ambient temperature. The system also includes a shutter control module. The shutter control module includes a first sub-module that provides a first amount of modification to an opening amount for a shutter based on the first data.

Vehicle grille shutter system and method of its use

A vehicle includes an engine, a motor, a belt, and a controller. The engine is configured to output torque via a crankshaft. The motor is configured to apply torque to and/or receive torque from the engine via an output shaft. The belt is operably disposed on the crankshaft of the engine and the output shaft of the motor. Rotation of the output shaft is transferred to the crankshaft via the belt. The controller is configured to identify a slip event by comparing a speed of the motor to a speed of the engine. The controller is further configured to count the number of slip events and diagnose a belt failure if the number of slip events exceeds a predetermined number of slip events over a predetermined number of drive cycles.
