A reformulated diesel fuel meeting the requirements of ASTM D975-96 for a low-sulfur number 2 diesel fuel and providing reduced emission benefits relative to a certified diesel fuel, certified under Section 2282(g) Title 13, California Code of Regulations and containing less than 15 volume percent aromatics having a natural cetane number of at least 55, a sulfur content less than 15 ppmw, a nitrogen content less than 10 ppmw, a polycyclic aromatics content no greater than 1.5 weight percent and an initial boiling point of at least 350&deg; F. and a method for producing and using the reformulated diesel fuel.

Reformulated reduced pollution diesel fuel

A method for removing carbon oxides from a hydrogen stream containing more than 0.1 ppmv of carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide or a mixture thereof, by charging the hydrogen with a hydrocarbonaceous stream containing a minor amount of aromatics to an aromatics saturation zone; saturating at least a portion of the aromatics and methanating at least a major portion of the carbon oxide to produce a reduced aromatics content hydrocarbonaceous stream and a reduced carbon oxide content hydrogen stream; and recovering the reduced aromatics content hydrocarbonaceous stream and the reduced carbon oxide content hydrogen stream. The hydrogen may optionally be dried or further purified.

Method for removing carbon oxides from a hydrogen stream

A method for isomerizing at least a portion of a butane stream using a hydrogen stream containing more than 0.1 ppmv of carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide or a mixture thereof, the method comprising: charging the hydrogen stream containing at least 0.1 ppmv of at least one carbon oxide to a aromatics saturation zone to produce a reduced carbon oxide content hydrogen stream; recovering the reduced carbon oxide content hydrogen stream; drying at least a portion of the reduced carbon oxide content hydrogen stream to produce a dried reduced carbon oxide content hydrogen stream; charging at least a portion of the dried reduced carbon oxide content hydrogen stream to a butane isomerization zone; charging the butane stream to the butane isomerization zone; and, isomerizing at least a portion of the butane to produce an isobutane stream.

Method for eliminating carbon oxides in the hydrogen feed to a butane

A method for reducing the benzene content and isomerizing at least a portion of a C.sub.5 /C.sub.6 paraffinic stream using a hydrogen stream containing more than 0.1 ppmv of carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide or a mixture thereof, the method comprising: charging a C.sub.5 /C.sub.6 paraffin stream containing benzene to a benzene saturation zone; charging a hydrogen stream containing at least 0.1 ppmv of at least one carbon oxide to the benzene saturation zone; saturating at least a major portion of the benzene and methanating at least a major portion of the carbon oxide present in the benzene saturation zone to produce a reduced benzene content C.sub.5 and C.sub.6 paraffinic stream and a reduced carbon oxide content hydrogen stream; recovering the reduced benzene content C.sub.5 and C.sub.6 paraffinic stream and the reduced carbon oxide content hydrogen stream; drying at least a portion of the reduced carbon oxide content hydrogen stream to produce a dried reduced carbon oxide content hydrogen stream; charging at least a portion of the dried reduced carbon oxide content hydrogen stream to a C.sub.5 /C.sub.6 isomerization zone; charging at least a portion of the reduced benzene content C.sub.5 /C.sub.6 paraffinic stream to the C.sub.5 /C.sub.6 isomerization zone; and, isomerizing at least a portion of the reduced benzene content C.sub.5 /C.sub.6 paraffinic stream in the C.sub.5 /C.sub.6 isomerization zone to produce an isomerized C.sub.5 /C.sub.6 paraffin stream.

Method for eliminating carbon oxides in feeds to a C5 and C6 paraffin

A low emissions 'clean' diesel fuel and methods of producing a clean diesel fuel are provided. In one aspect, this invention relates to a method of producing a diesel fuel which provides reduced, or at least substantially equivalent, emissions of oxides of nitrogen ('NO.sub.x ') In another aspect this invention relates to a clean diesel fuel composition which is economical to produce, meets regulatory specifications, and has desirable characteristics including acceptable aromatics content and cetane number.

Clean diesel fuel and methods of producing clean diesel fuel

A method and apparatus for mixing and distributing two reactants within a column. The apparatus forms a mixing zone in the column into which a first reactant (e.g. a process stream having both gas and liquid phases) flows vertically downward. The second reactant (e.g. quench gas) is introduced into the mixing zone and flows radially to intercept the downflowing process stream. Due to the construction of the mixing zone, a torturous path is provided which thoroughly mixes the different gas phases and the liquid phase by several different mechanisms, i.e. (a) radial jet mixing; (b) perpendicular mixing of the liquid and gas phases; (c) jet/turbulent mixing; (d) high velocity swirl jet mixing and atomizing of the liquid phase; (e) turbulent swirl mixing after the liquid is atomized; (f) additional turbulent jet mixing; and (g) energy dissipation of the flow as the mixed stream is distributed radially outward across the column through first a sieve tray and then a riser tray.
