During web browsing, a plurality of web entities associated with browsing activity of a first browsing identity of a first user are received. One or more of the plurality of web entities are selected for sharing. Further, one or more subscriber browsing identities associated with the first browsing identity are selected based on one or more associated trust relationships, and the selected web entities are sent to the selected subscriber browsing identities. The disclosure enhances social interaction and collaborative aspects of web browsing with respect to web browsing activity, enabling users to share browsing activity easily.

Techniques for sharing across environments are described. Generally, different types of input may be employed to share content, such as using a pen, a stylus, a finger, touchless gesture input, and so forth. According to various embodiments, content may be shared between devices in local proximity, and/or between devices that are remote from one another. In at least some embodiments, content is shared based on an identity of a sharing user and/or sharing device.

Sharing across environments

A digital assistant includes an extensibility client that interfaces with application extensions that are built by third-party developers so that various aspects of application user experiences, content, or features may be integrated into the digital assistant and rendered as native digital assistant experiences. Application extensions can use a variety of services provided from cloud-based and/or local sources such as language/vocabulary, user preferences, and context services that add intelligence and contextual relevance while enabling the extensions to plug in and operate seamlessly within the digital assistant context. Application extensions may also access and utilize general digital assistant functions, data structures, and libraries exposed by the services and implement application domain-specific context and behaviors using the programming features captured in the extension. Such extensibility to third party applications can broaden the scope of the database of information that the digital assistant may use to answer questions and perform actions for the user.

Techniques for ink in an electronic document are described. According to various implementations, techniques described herein provide a rich set of tools which allow a user to markup an electronic document such as a web page, not only in static 2D where the user writes on top of a document, but in dynamic 3D. In addition, when adding 3D elements to an electronic document, the 3D elements are added based on awareness of the content of the electronic document and can adapt its content in relationship to the document.

Described herein are various technologies pertaining to using a gesture to obtain contextually relevant information. Content within an area selected by a gesture is extracted. The extracted content and additional contextual information are packaged, optionally disambiguated, and provided to a search engine. Result(s) provided by the search engine are provided to a user to enrich the user experience.

Techniques for a contextual new tab experience in a heterogeneous tab environment are described. In at least some implementations, relevant content associated with a user's current task is determined based on contextual information collected from tabs presented in a heterogeneous tab environment. According to various implementations, a new tab is launched displaying the relevant content in the heterogeneous tab environment. Thus, contextually relevant content can be determined from a current task and displayed in a single location via a heterogeneous tab environment.

Various embodiments utilize context positioning of an input mechanism to convey at least one action associated with the input mechanism. At times, the input mechanism is associated with multiple actions. Input received via at the input mechanism can be analyzed to determine which action of the multiple actions to perform. In some embodiments, the input mechanism can be physically and/or visually moved to a different location based upon the determined action.

A Web application displays Web content in a user interface (UI) tab having multiple associated virtual tabs. The multiple associated virtual tabs can include a visible tab hosting Web content that is currently visible, one or more hidden tabs each hosting Web content that is not currently visible, and optionally one or more empty tabs each hosting no Web content or only primitive Web content. For each hidden tab, the Web content hosted in the hidden tab is suspended, which refers to ceasing execution of instructions in and/or other operations performed by the Web content. For example, audio/video playback is paused, execution of script instructions ceases, and so forth.

Many devices are configured to present notifications to a user in an environment, such as mobile phones that ring or buzz to notify the user of an incoming call, and navigation devices that present verbal instructions to a driver of a vehicle. Many such devices present such audio notifications when information with potential relevance to the user is initially identified, but such techniques may interrupt an activity of the user, such as a conversation. Instead, a device may monitor an activity of the user within an environment to detect a notification opportunity when notifications may be presented to the user without interrupting the activity (e.g., a break in the conversation, or a gap of idle time between a first scheduled appointment and a second scheduled appointment). The device may present notifications of pertinent information to the user during the notification opportunities rather than interrupting the activity of the user.

Determining browsing activities is described. In one or more implementations, browsing history data, indicating navigation to websites using a web platform, is analyzed to determine a browsing activity, such as shopping, planning a trip, and so forth. The websites navigated to using the web platform as part of the browsing activity are then stored with the browsing activity to enable subsequent access to the websites. In one or more implementations, for each browsing activity, one or more suggested websites which are related to the browsing activity are determined and stored with the browsing activity to enable access to the suggested websites.

Determining browsing activities

Systems, methods and computer program products are described herein that collect and analyze data generated by embedded systems included within a user's devices to generate recommendations for presentation to the user within the context of the user's web browser. The recommendations may comprise, for example, suggested information resources and/or search queries. Such recommendations may be presented to the user as part of a new tab page or within an address bar of the web browser's graphical user interface. In accordance with further embodiments, the user device data is used by a search engine to generate search results, and/or a ranking of search results.

Various embodiments provide a travel log for manipulation of content. In at least some embodiments, the travel log can be presented as a visual element of a web browser and can enable a user to navigate through visited content (e.g., web pages) via manipulation of the content using touch-based and/or touchless gestures. Implementations can facilitate navigation through content by representing the travel log as a visual 'time line' of visited content that can be scrolled via manipulation through a web browser user interface. For example, a user can navigate the travel log to older content by manipulating the travel log in one direction, and can navigate the travel log to newer content by manipulating the travel log in a different direction.

Techniques for selection of content within web documents are described herein. In implementations, a selection tool for a browser or other client application is configured to analyze web documents to recognize different regions in the arrangement of content for the document. The selection tool may parse the underlying structure of a webpage (e.g., the mark-up code and DOM structure) to identify different discrete regions in the webpage. In addition or alternatively, the selection tool may use optical recognition techniques to visually analyze the webpage as it appears when rendered and detect different discrete regions based on the visual analysis. Recognized regions are configured as portions of the content that are individually selectable. These selectable regions may be exposed and made accessible in various ways to enable users to toggle selection of the regions quickly and easily.
