A feedback control system for use in a press machine is adapted to monitor and adjust the clearance between the gib and slide. A pressurized chamber, such as a hydraulic piston-cylinder combination is disposed in actuating relationship to the gib. Selective pressurization of the piston-cylinder induces a controlled displacement of the gib towards or away from the slide, thereby regulating the spatial relationship therebetween. A sensor provides a measure of any possible clearance between the gib and slide. The clearance measurement is compared to allowable reference data. A controller controls the pressurization of the chamber in accordance with the comparison results, thereby controllably moving the gib. The gib may be selectively displaced to optionally effectuate a minimal clearance condition.

Method and apparatus for adjusting the gib-slide clearance using a pressurized chamber combination

The present invention relates to a speed control and indication system for a mechanical press. In order to enable the press to operate at its full running speed on the first cycle thereof after actuation of the clutch, the flywheel is driven at a speed higher than the set running speed so that as the mechanical inertia of the drive mechanism will cause the press to slow down to its set running speed. The control circuit modifies the speed control voltage after actuation of the clutch so that the press continues to run at the set speed even after the mechanical inertia is overcome. The signal from the tachometer to the speed meter is modified before actuation of the clutch so that it provides a reading at the set running speed of the press even though the flywheel is running at a higher speed. After the clutch is actuated, the true tachometer voltage is fed to the speed meter so that it continues to indicate the true running speed of the press.

Press speed control and indication system

A press control system in which multiple pushbuttons are employed for initiating a press cycle with each pushbutton including a normally closed and a normally open blade and with each switch blade having connected in parallel therewith a monitoring circuit which produces logic signals in conformity with the position of the respective switch blade. A logic circuit analyzes the logic signals from the several monitoring circuits and permits operation of the press only when all of the switches operate properly during a press cycle.
