An exponentially tapered slot antenna assembly includes a plurality of antenna panels arranged together in a general box-like configuration. At each corner of the box-like configuration, a capacitive load panel is in operative electrical communication with orthogonal pairs of antenna panels. Each antenna panel defines an inner and outer surface and has an electromagnetic interference shielding material positioned thereon. The shielding material positioned may be positioned near a first or upper edge of each antenna panel of the assembly. It has been empirically determined that this configuration enables an operational bandwidth that is greater than 5:1 and a voltage standing wave ratio that is less than 3:1 over the 5:1 bandwidth.

The tunable inverted L meander line antenna being suitable for space-constrained uses. Electronic switches, including solid state switches being used to tune the slow-wave meander-line inverted L antenna. Methods, antennas and other embodiments associated with impedance matching an antenna feed slot are based on a fractal shape. A slot antenna includes a planar metal sheet. A feed slot opening is formed in the metal sheet. The feed slot has a first end and a second end. A tapered opening is formed in the metal sheet. Adjacent sides of the tapered opening touch the first end of the feed slot. An impedance matching fractal shaped opening is formed in the metal. The impedance matching fractal shaped opening touches the second end of the feed slot.

An impedance matching star shaped opening is formed in the metal. The impedance matching star shaped opening touches the second end of the feed slot.

A low profile, broadband includes an active conductive edge having a shape which approximates a quadratic curve. Two identical elements may be used in an opposed manner to form signals across their respective active edges, and two pairs of opposed identical elements may be used in quadrature for handling circularly polarized signals with a high degree of polarization purity. The quadratic curvature of the elements can provide sufficient space to co-locate a second, smaller antenna within the same volume and aperture as the larger antenna. Applications include combinations of a wide variety of current communications systems.
