In one embodiment, the electronic vaping device includes a cartridge and a battery section. The cartridge and the battery section are connectable so as to define an air inlet between a portion of the cartridge and a portion of the battery section.

An electronic smoking article includes an outer tube extending in a longitudinal direction, an inner tube within the outer tube and including a pair of opposing slots, a liquid supply comprising a liquid material, a coil heater, a wick and a mouth end insert. The coil heater is located in the inner tube. The coil heater is formed of an iron-free, nickel-chromium alloy and has substantially uniformly spaced windings. The wick is surrounded by the coil heater such that the wick delivers liquid material to the coil heater and the coil heater heats the liquid material to a temperature sufficient to vaporize the liquid material and form an aerosol in the inner tube.

In an apparatus for making and inspecting a multi-component cigarettes, each cigarette including two or more different components arranged relative to one another, the apparatus includes a device for advancing a web in a first direction. The apparatus further includes a device for positioning at least two different components of a cigarette relative to one another on the web as the web advances in the first direction. The apparatus further includes a garniture device for wrapping the web around the at least two different components by moving opposite edges of the web transversely to the first direction such that, at a closure point in the garniture device, the opposite edges overlap each other. The apparatus further includes an imaging device disposed upstream of the closure point for generating an image of the at least two different components. The apparatus further includes a processing device connected to the imaging device for comparing the generated image with a reference standard and determining if the generated image deviates from the reference standard. A method for manufacturing and inspecting multi-component articles is also disclosed.

An imaging apparatus and process for inspecting polymeric film seals and folds. Incident light is applied to the package to cause either reflected or transmitted light to reflect a pass through the poly wrap. The wrap affects the transmitted or reflected image in a manner which can be analyzed to determine the quality of the poly film application.

An apparatus for the detection of surface flaws in material having a surface which is partially reflective includes at least one light source arranged to direct incident light on a surface of an at least partially reflective material, and a light detector disposed above the surface of the material. The light detector and the at least one light source are arranged relative to each other such that, in the absence of a surface flaw in the material, substantially no light from the at least one light source is detected by the light detector and, in the presence of a surface flaw in the material, light from the at least one light source is reflected off of the flaw and into the detector.
