Presented are an apparatus, method and electrosurgical device for surgical procedures. An exemplary apparatus includes a body comprising a longitudinal axis and an electrical wire maintained within the body extending along the longitudinal axis, and an electrode extending from a distal end of the body operably coupled to the electrical wire, the electrode with the electrical wire operable to conduct a flow of current at a plurality of levels. The apparatus further includes a first button arranged on an external surface of the body, the first button operable for selecting the flow of current at each one of the plurality of levels through the electrical wire and the electrode, and a second button arranged on the external surface of the body adjacent the first button, the second button operable activate and deactivate the flow of current to the electrode.

Electrosurgical device

Presented are a method and apparatus for surgical procedures. An exemplary apparatus includes a body having a longitudinal axis and a connection opening at a first end of the longitudinal axis, the connection opening including an electrical connection to an electrical circuit maintained within the body and an air path extending through the longitudinal axis of the body. The apparatus further includes a tube assembly having a distal end and a mating end along a tube longitudinal axis, the tube assembly having a vacuum inlet circumscribing an electrode extending from the distal end, the vacuum inlet operable for receiving surgical smoke, the vacuum inlet fluidly connected to an air tube extending through the tube longitudinal axis, the mating end operable to be removably affixed to the connection opening thereby connecting the electrode with the electrical connection and the air path with the air tube, and a first button.

Electrosurgical device with vacuum port

An electrosurgical device with an electrode having a first portion whose exterior is electrically uninsulated, a second portion whose exterior is electrically insulated, and a third portion. The device includes an elongated hollow body formed by a first member and a second member. The second member is capable of rotating relative to the first member. The hollow body has an internal cavity, a front end, a rear end, an external surface, and an electrical wire arranged within the body. The hollow body is configured to reversibly receive the third portion of the electrode at the front end of the body such that electrical contact is made between the electrode and the electrical wire and the second portion of the electrode is not surrounded by the hollow body. A first button is provided for controlling a current flow at a first level to the electrode and is arranged on the external surface. A vacuum tube is slidably engaged by the body and has an inlet generally facing the front end and adjacent the electrode. A vacuum outlet port is arranged near the rear end of the body, and the outlet port, internal cavity, and vacuum inlet are in fluid communication with each other.

Presented are a method and apparatus for surgical procedures. An exemplary apparatus includes a body having a longitudinal axis, the body comprising a hollow passageway extending through the longitudinal axis from an inlet at a distal end to a port at a proximal end. The apparatus further includes an electrode extending from the distal end of the body adjacent to the inlet. The apparatus also includes a swivel portion moveably coupled to the port, the swivel portion having a second hollow passageway fluidly coupled to the hollow conduit extending from the port to an outlet, wherein the swivel portion comprises a first swivel element operable to rotate around the longitudinal axis relative to the body, and wherein the swivel portion comprises a second swivel element operable to rotate relative to the first swivel element and the body.

Presented is a method and apparatus for aiding medical procedures. An apparatus includes a housing defining a first opening, a second opening, and a interior, and a first cleaning element maintained within the interior relative to the first opening, the first cleaning element comprising at least one cleaning agent operable to remove extraneous debris from an object. The apparatus further includes a second cleaning element maintained with the interior relative to the second opening, the second cleaning element comprising at least one cleaning material and at least one white reference material, the at least one cleaning material operable to remove debris from an object. The apparatus also includes a conduit defining a passage from a first end of the housing to a second end of the housing.

An elongated hollow body has an internal cavity, a front end, a rear end, an external surface. An electrical circuit is arranged within the body. The second portion of the electrode is not surrounded by the hollow body. A first button is arranged on the external surface of the body for controlling a current flow at a first level. A vacuum tube is slidably engaged by the body. A vacuum outlet port is arranged near the rear end, and the outlet port, internal cavity, and vacuum inlet are in fluid communication with each other.

Embodiments of the present disclosure provide an electrosurgical device. The electrosurgical device includes an electrode having a first portion whose exterior is electrically uninsulated, a second portion whose exterior is electrically insulated, and a third portion. The device includes an elongated hollow body formed by a first member and a second member. The second member is capable of rotating relative to the first member. The hollow body has an internal cavity, a front end, a rear end, an external surface, and an electrical wire arranged within the body. The hollow body is configured to reversibly receive the third portion of the electrode at the front end of the body such that electrical contact is made between the electrode and the electrical wire and the second portion of the electrode is not surrounded by the hollow body. The device includes a first button, a vacuum tube and a vacuum outlet.

A staple cartridge is disclosed. The staple cartridge can include a cartridge body, a plurality of staples, and an implantable layer. The implantable layer can include a piece of lyophilized foam and a plurality of fibers at least partially embedded in the piece of lyophilized foam. The implantable layer can further include a plurality of pores defined in piece of lyophilized foam, and a plurality of pockets, wherein a pocket at least partially surrounds a fiber. A method of forming an implantable layer for use with a surgical staple is also disclosed. The method can comprise obtaining a mold comprising a cavity, placing a plurality of fibers in the cavity of the mold, dispensing a solution into the cavity around the fibers, and lyophilizing the solution in the cavity.

Implantable layers for a surgical instrument

A staple cartridge is disclosed. The staple cartridge can include a cartridge body, a plurality of staples, and an implantable layer. The implantable layer can include an inner portion, an outer portion positioned at least partially around the inner portion, and a plurality of passages formed through the outer portion toward the inner portion. The implantable layer can be porous. An implantable layer can include an outer portion including a plurality of fibers. A method of forming an implantable layer for use with a surgical stapler is also disclosed. The method can include forming at least one passage through an outer surface toward an inner portion of the implantable layer.

The vacuum tube is configured with a blade holder to reversibly receive the third portion of the electrode such that electrical contact is made between the electrode and a conductor which is connected to the electrical circuit by electrical connector. A vacuum outlet port is arranged near the rear end, and the outlet port, internal cavity, and vacuum inlet are in fluid communication with each other.

A method is disclosed for changing the spring rate of an implantable layer for use with a surgical instrument which includes the steps of obtaining an implantable layer having a first spring rate, wherein the implantable layer is at least partially comprised of a material having a glass transition temperature and a melting temperature, heating the implantable layer to a temperature higher than the glass transition temperature and lower than the melting temperature, deforming the implantable layer to change the first spring rate to a second spring rate, wherein the second spring rate is different than the first spring rate, allowing the implantable layer to cool below the glass transition temperature, and releasing the implantable layer.

Implantable layers and methods for altering one or more properties of implantable layers for use with fastening instruments

A surgical needle includes a pair of ends, a mid-region extending between the ends, and at least one grasping feature configured for grasping by a suturing instrument. An end of a suture is secured to the mid-region of the needle in a manner such that the end of the suture defines an oblique angle with at least part of the centerline defined by the mid-region of the needle. The end of the suture may be disposed in a hollow portion of the needle. The grasping feature may include a notch such as a scallop. The suture may be pivotally coupled with the needle via a ball or pin. The needle may have one or more sharp points. The sharp point may include three converging cutting edges, at least two planar surfaces bounded by the three cutting edges, and a rounded surface bounded by two of the three cutting edges.
