The disclosure includes a connection method to connect a shaft to a body. The body and movable latch may be an integral single molded plastic part connected by a flexible hinge, bushing, or a multipart hinge. In operation actuating the movable latch to raise or lower a latching beak within a corresponding open guide in the plastic body. A shaft into a shaft guide in the body which intersects the beak guide to temporarily latching the shaft to the body via a mounting fixture the shaft with the beak; and, wherein the body has a face end and a tail end.

A retention assembly for connecting a base to a tool having a shaft includes a shaft engagement socket defining a shaft receptacle configured to receive the shaft; a retainer configured to secure the shaft to the shaft engagement socket, the retainer having a body with an opening that can receive the shaft; and at least one finger extending from the body, defining a sliding surface, and being configured to contact the shaft. Cutting guides for use in orthopedic surgery are disclosed. In some embodiments, the cutting guides comprise monolithic polymer cutting blocks with one or more slots and guide inserts to allow for the provision of various desired surgical cuts to a bone by a cutting saw. In other embodiments, the cutting guides may comprise adjustable guide bars with one or more slots and inserts to allow for various desired surgical cuts to a bone. The location and directionality of the cuts may be configured to match the geometry of a surgical implant.

A partially hollow nose is configured to one of connect a pathway to a body catch to accept a quick connect body (QCB) or mate with a connection system configured to be inserted into a shaped cavity in the nose; and, a quick connect module (QCM) and the nose are configured to cooperate to accept insertion of the QCB through the side wall of the nose into the body catch of the QCM; wherein the QCB affixes the QCM into the nose; and, wherein pushing on the button at one end of the QCB compresses the integral biasing arm of said QCB opening a catch and release interface to accept a tool.
