Disclosed herein is a system includes a lubricated component and a lubricant pump that selectively provides lubricant to the lubricated component. The system also includes a lubricant source in lubricant providing communication with the lubricant pump. Additionally, the system includes a lubricant flow regulation device in lubricant receiving communication with the lubricated component and lubricant providing communication with the lubricant source. The lubricant flow regulation device is configured to drain lubricant from the lubricated component to the lubricant source based on when the lubricant pump provides lubricant to the lubricated component, and to prevent drainage of lubricant from the lubricated component to the lubricant source based on when the lubricant pump stops providing lubricant to the lubricated component.

Lubricant level control for lubricated systems

Electric machine assemblies and methods of manufacturing and operating electric machine assemblies for internal combustion engines are provided. The electric machine assembly includes an electric machine configured to generate electric current by induction via a prime mover causing rotation of one of a rotor and a stator with respect to the other one of the rotor and the stator. The electric machine assembly also includes a torque transmitter including a rotating output driver coupled to the prime mover of the electric machine. The torque transmitter includes a rotating input driver configured to receive a rotary input transmitted from a crankshaft of an internal combustion engine. The rotating input driver is coupled to the rotating output driver to actuate the rotating output driver at a plurality of gear ratios.

Electric machine with variable torque drive

An engine accessory drive (EAD) system for an engine includes a motor-generator (MGU) unit operably coupled to an accessory. The EAD system also includes a gearbox assembly, which includes a first gear train operably coupled to the MGU, and a second gear train operably coupled to an output of the engine. The gearbox assembly also includes a clutch selectively coupling the first gear train with a second gear train. The EAD system further includes a starter assembly, which includes a starter shaft operably coupled to the second gear train. The starter assembly also includes a starter pinion coupled to the starter shaft, and an actuator configured to selectively engage the starter pinion with a flywheel of the engine. Further yet, the EAD system includes an EAD controller configured to selectively operate the EAD system in one of a generator mode, an accessory drive mode, and a starter mode.

Engine accessory drive system

An EGR measurement device for recirculating a portion of exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine that is adapted to allow accurate measurement of exhaust gas flow when the exhaust gas flows in a reverse direction that is opposite to the forward direction toward the intake of the engine. In one embodiment, an extension portion is used which extends over a second tap to allow measurement of pressure in the reverse flow direction so that flow rate can be calculated. In another embodiment, one or more pitot tubes are provided that allows accurate measurement of exhaust gas flows when the exhaust gas flows in a reverse direction.

Exhaust gas recirculation measurement device

An air-exhaust mixer assembly includes an air intake to supply air and an exhaust gas intake to supply exhaust gas. A mixer is fluidly coupled to the air intake and the exhaust gas intake. The mixer has an inner passage and an outer passage defined therein along a longitudinal axis. The inner passage and the outer passage are adapted to mix the air and the exhaust gas by expanding the air and the exhaust gas in radially opposite directions with respect to the longitudinal axis.

Air-exhaust mixer assembly

A fuel cooler and coolant filter assembly for the filtering of coolant and the cooling of a fuel flow for use in connection with a cylinder head of a vehicle engine includes three primary components which are assembled to one another in a stacked configuration and which in turn are assembled to the cylinder head. These three primary components include a fuel cooler core which is assembled directly to the cylinder head and which includes a fuel inlet, a fuel outlet, and a heat exchanger. The interior of the fuel cooler core is designed for the incoming fuel to flow and circulate across the exterior of the heat exchanger prior to exiting. The second primary component includes a filter head assembly with various inlets, outlets, and passageways. The filter head assembly is attached directly to the fuel cooler core so as to deliver coolant into the heat exchanger. The third component is a coolant filter which is connected to the filter head assembly and which filters the flow of coolant from the filter head assembly and then introduces the coolant back into the filter head assembly. A shut off valve is positioned in the filter head assembly so as to block the flow of coolant from the coolant filter, allowing the coolant filter to be replaced without the loss of coolant. A by-pass passageway ensures that coolant continues to flow to the heat exchanger, even when the shut off valve is in a closed condition.

Fuel cooler and coolant filter assembly

A compact, short stroke breakover throttle lever assembly which prevents damage to high pressure internal combustion engine fuel pumps is provided. The compact, short stroke breakover throttle lever of the present invention includes a throttle lever element and a throttle control link element which are coaxial and move synchronously with a fuel pump throttle shaft that are pivotally connected at an end of the throttle lever element a maximum distance from the fuel pump throttle shaft. A central throttle control link connection and return spring connection are provided on the throttle control link element. The pivotal movement of the throttle control link element relative to the throttle lever element is limited by the travel limits of a spring engaging element which cooperates with a spring to hold the throttle lever element and throttle control link element in alignment.

Breakover throttle lever

A protective boot formed of a resilient elastomeric material is provided having a housing with an opening therein through which the reciprocating shaft of a solenoid or like device projects with the shaft being axially movable relative to the housing of the solenoid through a stroke of a predetermined length from an extended position to a retracted position. The protective boot includes a first ring portion sealingly fixed to the housing about the opening and, a second ring portion sealingly fixed to and reciprocatable with the shaft. The body portion of the boot forms a fluid chamber about the shaft between the first and second ring portions, with the body portion comprising at least one pair of truncated conical sections each being integrally formed at their narrow portion with a respective one of the ring portions and an intermediate portion integrally formed between the widened portions of the conical sections. The conical sections and the intermediate sections are provided with axial convolutions, ribs, or both for maintaining the conical sections and the intermediate portion axially rigid during movement of the shaft between the extended position and the retracted position. These convolutions or ribs also permit the conical sections and the intermediate portion to circumferentially expand and retract during movement of the shaft between its extended position and its retracted position to maintain an essentially constant volume within the fluid chamber.
