A device () for cleaning surfaces is provided utilizing a web () of a tackified sheet material movably secured between rollers () on the device () that enable the web () to be moved over the surface in opposite directions. The device () includes a supply roller () and a take-up roller () secured to opposed ends of the web () of adhesive sheet material, with at least one roller () including a biasing mechanism () disposed within the roller (). The web () can be engaged with the surface by passing over a number of idler rollers () positioned between the supply roller () and take-up roller (). The biasing mechanism () is designed to bias the movement of the web () onto the take-up roller (), such that the mechanism () can be selectively operated to advance the web () from the supply roller () to the take-up roller () to expose a clean section of the adhesive sheet material (). A synchronization mechanism () is also connected between the rollers () to enable the rollers () to rotate in a synchronous manner, regardless of the amount of the web () that is positioned on the rollers () to continually tension the web () a proper amount.

Portable devices for mitigating the accumulation and localized settling of airborne particulates are provided. The devices establish airflow patterns which push or carry various airborne particulates outwardly away therefrom, thereby establishing a localized zone having relatively fewer airborne particulates. Correspondingly, each the devices establishes a localized zone, defined circumferentially about the perimeter of the device, in which there is relatively less surface accumulation of particulates which were previously airborne and settled out. The devices establish such airflow patterns by proving a fan which draws a volume of air axially through a top portion of the device, then pushes the volume of air axially down through the device where it is radially emitted from the bottom portion of the device, defining a circumferentially expanding plane of airflow.

Portable devices for mitigating accumulation and localized settling of airborne particulates

A girth measuring device for a shoe is disclosed. The portions of the device are configured to be placed inside the shoe and a measurement ribbon is moved from a retracted position to an expanded position. As the measurement ribbon expands, it eventually contacts the shoe. This contact can be sensed and information related to the girth of the shoe is available.

The general purpose of this invention is to provide an improved apparatus and method of preserving the vulnerable area of a railroad cross tie near the interface of the tie and the tie plate. To attain this purpose the invention provides a thin preservative-bearing gelatinous material that is placed between the cross tie and the tie plate either at the time of the original laying of rail or during any subsequent relaying. No extra equipment is needed and only a negligible amount of labor is required to simply place the gelatinous material on the adzed surface of the cross tie prior to the mounting or remounting of the rail. The presence of the gelatinous material poses absolutely no resistance to the subsequent driving of the spikes into the tie and is thin enough so as not to pose any rail alignment problems. The use of the gelatinous material relies on the moisture found under the tie plate to leach the active ingredients out of the material and help diffuse them throughout the adjacent section of wood. In addition, the unloading and loading of the tie plate by the passing of a train forces moisture into and out of the gelatinous material to further promote the leaching action. The inert components of the gelatinous material are completely biodegradable and will not pose an environmental problem at the end of the material's service life.

A gasket such as a cylinder head gasket molded of an amorphous fiber reinforced thermoplastic resin composite having at least 3% by weight of reinforcing fibers, and having an integral non-elastomeric sealing bead extending above the gasket body and surrounding at least one service opening, and a method of making such a gasket.

Gasket and method of making same

A process of forming a gasket with a minimal production of waste material is disclosed. A suitable fiber is mixed with a binder in water to form a fiber-binder aqueous mixture. The mixture is then deposited on a screen in a predetermined pattern to form a gasket preform with apertures in predetermined locations therein. The gasket preform is subsequently dewatered and cured. The gasket preform can be provided with differential thicknesses and preformed inserts to impart, respectively, selective control of the sealing capability of and reinforcement to the resulting gasket.
