A dry eye treatment device and method of use are disclosed for applying heat to the exterior surface of an eyelid to treat dry eye symptoms which can be caused by meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD). More specifically, a user operable main unit and hand piece are provided that allow the user to heat his/her or another patient's eyelids to a desired temperature, which can effectively and efficiently raise the temperature at the meibomian glands sufficient to melt, loosen, or soften occlusions or obstructions in the meibomian glands, thereby restoring natural secretory function to the meibomian glands.

Dry eye treatment device

The present invention provides a method of sequestering carbon dioxide in aqueous environments. In a first step, an area is assessed to determine whether the area is capable of supporting the addition of organisms of higher trophic level (OHTL). Next, OHTL are added to the area in order to produce enough rapidly sinking and refractory particulate matter (PM) to sequester carbon dioxide above the level of carbon dioxide sequestration that exists before the addition of OHTL. Preferably, the PM produced by the OHTL sinks at rates significantly greater than and/or is significantly less biodegradable than that produced by other components of the biological carbon pump. Finally, this increase in the level of carbon dioxide sequestration is quantified. The method of the present invention may also include the step of reporting the quantified increase in the level of carbon dioxide sequestration.

A child-resistant package includes a tray with a compartment therein for receiving articles to be packaged, and a cover member slideably received on the tray and movable relative to the tray between opened and closed positions. The cover member is a flexible member having a top wall and peripheral sidewalls. The peripheral sidewalls of the cover member overlie peripheral sidewalls of the tray and latching members on the sidewalls of the cover member and tray cooperate to retain the cover member in a closed position relative to the tray. The latching members are released by applying an inward pressure to the top wall of the cover member, to thereby bias the sidewalls of the cover member outwardly relative to the sidewalls of the tray. An abutment member on the tray prevents such inward deflection of the top wall of the cover member in the event that a child bites down on the package in the forward region thereof. Preferably a peripheral skirt is provided on the tray for overlying lower marginal surfaces of the peripheral walls of the cover member, to thereby prevent a child from wedging his or her teeth between the peripheral walls of the cover member and tray, and thereafter prying the cover member off of the tray.

Child resistant package

A package including a unique container adapted to cooperate with a closure for establishing a seal wherein the container includes a lower body section for receiving a material therein, and an upper, elongate finish joined to the body section. The finish includes an outer peripheral surface, and an inner peripheral surface defining a passageway communicating the finish with the interior of the lower body section of the container. The upper region of the finish has a stepped configuration in either one or both of the inner and outer peripheral surfaces thereof, and each stepped configuration includes a generally vertically oriented, circumferentially continuous surface segment extending for only a part of the elongate extent of the finish, and a horizontal, upwardly facing ledge section joined at a junction to the inwardly facing surface segment. Preferably the package includes a closure having an upper wall adapted to overlie the passageway defined by the inner peripheral surface of the finish, an outer peripheral skirt extending downwardly from the upper wall for attachment to the outer periphery of the finish and at least one flexible rib dimensioned so that its free end is forced into the junction between a generally vertically oriented surface segment and generally upwardly facing horizontal ledge section of a stepped configuration provided in the container finish, when the closure is tightly fastened to the container.

Package employing unique closure seal and container therefor

A package includes a container having an upper finish with inner and outer surfaces. The outer surface includes threads adjacent the top of the finish, and the inner surface includes a lower sealing section located solely in a section of the finish spaced downwardly from the upper margin of said finish. A closure for the container includes an inner valve having an outer sealing surface for frictionally engaging only the lower sealing section of the inner finish surface to provide a leak-proof seal for the package.

Package employing unique seal

An article having two sections which are articulated to one another by at least one hinge that includes a substantially spherical male hinge member disposed within a recess provided by a surface of a female hinge member. The hinge includes retaining means for confining the male hinge member within the recess while permitting rotational motion of the male hinge member within the recess. The male member is a continuous molded extension of one section of the article and the female hinge member is a continuous molded extension of the other section of the article.

Article including an integrally molded ball and socket type hinge

An article having two sections which are articulated to one another by at least one hinge that includes a substantially spherical male hinge member disposed within a recess provided by a surface of a female hinge member. The hinge includes retaining means for confining the male hinge member within the recess while permitting rotational motion of the male hinge member within the recess. The male member is a continuous molded extension of one section of the article and the female hinge member is a continuous molded extension of the other section of the article. A mold for use in manufacturing the above-described article includes upper and lower mold sections which, when brought into mating relationship with each other, provide article section forming compartments adjacent to each other for forming the sections of the article. A female hinge member forming compartment communicates with one of the section forming compartments. A mold segment interrupts the female hinge member forming compartment. This mold segment includes walls having an outer periphery about which the recess in the female hinge member is formed, and an inner, substantially spherical periphery providing a male hinge member forming compartment. Slots extend through walls of the mold segment which interrupt the female hinge member forming compartment for communicating the female hinge member forming compartment with the substantially spherical male hinge member forming compartment. The retaining means for confining the male hinge member within the recess of the female hinge member are formed within these slots. An additional slot in the mold segment provides communication between the substantially spherical male hinge member forming compartment and the other article section forming compartment. From the above description it can be seen that a continuous passage for the flow of molding material is provided between the two article section forming compartments so that each part of the hinge is integrally formed with its respective article section, and with the substantially spherical male hinge member confined within the recess of the female hinge member.

Mold for manufacturing an integrally molded ball and socket type hinge

This invention relates to containers adapted for use in the bulk packaging of articles; such as nails, bolts, screws, nuts and the like; which are commonly employed for home repairs and/or improvements. Each container includes a main body and a pivotally attached lid. The main body includes a bottom wall and upstanding peripheral walls defining a compartment for containing the articles therein. A hollow tubular section is part of the container body and has a height substantially equal to the height of the container compartment. At least a segment of the tubular section has an outer surface defining part of the compartment configuration; the remaining part of the compartment configuration being defined by the peripheral walls of the main body. Upper margins of the peripheral walls and the tubular member which define upper boundaries of the compartment are engaged by cooperating surfaces of the lid to completely enclose the article-containing compartment. The lid is shaped so that it does not obstruct the opening through the hollow tubular member. The container can be displayed or stored in a flat condition, or alternatively, it can be hung on a supporting rod of a peg board or similar supporting structure by inserting the rod through the opening in the tubular member.
