A method of optimizing BLoS communications between a first asset and a second asset using at least one of atmospheric troposcatter and ducting signal propagating phenomena includes transmitting a plurality of test signals from multiple antenna elements of the first asset into the atmosphere. At least a portion of the test signals are received at multiple antenna elements of the second asset. The second asset is configured to calculate a gain and phase shift of the channel between each transmitting and receiving antenna element, calculate optimized antenna weights for the transmitting and receiving antenna elements, and estimate a communication channel coherence time and coherence bandwidth. These parameters may be transmitted to the first asset and applied thereto for optimizing communications between the first and second assets.

System and method for improved beyond line-of-sight communications using natural phenomena

A system for providing underwater communication using orbital angular momentum (OAM) includes a transmitter that processes input data to be transmitted using pre-coding information based on current transmission channel conditions to maximize data rate based on channel conditions. A receiver receives a transmitted multiplexed OAM optical signal and analyzes the received signal for channel state information. The channel state information is used to determine a set of pre-coding values that allow the transmitter to pre-code the input data to maximize the data rate based on current channel conditions. The pre-coding values are mapped to a codebook entry which identifies the pre-coding values. The codebook entry is transmitted from the receiver to the transmitter. The transmitter uses the received codebook entry to identify pre-coding values used to process subsequent input data to be transmitted in order to enhance data rate across the transmit channel.

Apparatus and method for increased data rates in underwater communications using orbital angular momentum

A method for tracking an object of interest with a passive radar system using multiple radar sensors. The method includes the steps of receiving, with at least one controller, radar sensor characteristics and radar sensor locations data for a plurality of radar receivers occupying an area of interest. Data indicative of direct or reflected radar return signals from emitters of opportunity received by the plurality of radar receivers is also received at the controller. From this data, objects of interest are identified. The controller is configured to calculate optimized radar sensor parameters for the plurality of radar receivers for each identified object of interest, and transmit the same to the plurality of radar receivers for implementation. Radar return data received by the plurality of radar receivers using the optimized sensor parameters is provided to the central controller, and updated optimized sensor parameters according to the updated received radar return data are calculated.
