An apparatus which dries and fuses a liquid image of liquid carrier and toner particles to a sheet. The sheet passes through a nip defined by a support member cooperating with a roller. The roller contacts the liquid image on the sheet. Heat is applied to the liquid image to fuse the toner particles to the sheet and vaporize at least a portion of the liquid carrier therefrom. The side of the sheet opposed from the side having the liquid image thereon is maintained at a lower pressure than atmospheric pressure to reduce the amount of heat required to vaporize the liquid carrier and remove the vaporized liquid carrier therefrom.

Liquid ink fusing and drying system

An electrophotographic printing machine in which indicia are printed on a sheet in at least two different colors. An electrostatic latent image is recorded on a photoconductive member and developed with a liquid developer material of one color. The latent image is neutralized and ions projected onto the photoconductive member in an image wise pattern to record another latent image. This latent image is developed with a liquid developer of another color. Both liquid images are transferred substantially simultaneously to a sheet to print indicia in two colors thereon.

Highlight color printing

A reproducing machine in which an electrostatic latent image recorder on a photoconductive member is developed with a liquid developer material comprising at least a liquid carrier having pigmented particles dispersed therein. The developed image is transferred from the photoconductive member to a sheet of support material. The sheet of support material, with the developed image thereon, passes through a housing. In the housing, heat and pressure are applied to the sheet of support material to vaporize the liquid carrier and to fuse the pigmented particles to the sheet of support material in image configuration. A substantially portion of the vaporized liquid carrier and heated air are removed from the interior of the housing.

Liquid ink fusing system

A copier is disclosed as having a sorter positioned on top of the copier housing for easy access to an operator. The path of movement of processed copy sheets is repeatedly folded in order to present to the operator collated copy sets or stacks for easy observation of sorting and removal. The sheets exit the copier processing station in a horizontal plane, are turned 90.degree. while still in the plane, are transported upwardly in a vertical plane, and deposited in sorter trays toward the operator.

Copier with sorting function

A reproducing machine in which an electrostatic latent image recorded on a photoconductive member is developed with a liquid developer material comprising at least a liquid carrier having pigmented particles dispersed therein. The developed image is transferred from the photoconductive member to a sheet of support material. A pair of rollers cooperate with one another to define a nip through which the sheet of support material having the developed image thereon passes. The pair of rollers apply heat and pressure to the sheet of support material having the developed image thereon. The pigmented particles are fused to the sheet of support material in image configuration and the vaporized liquid carrier removed therefrom.

Liquid ink fusing and carrier removal system

An apparatus in which a copy of an original document is formed. A liquid image is transferred from a photoconductive member to an intermediate member positioned closely adjacent thereto. The liquid image is subsequently simultaneously transferred and fused onto a copy sheet to form a copy of the original document.

Simultaneous transfer and fusing in electrophotography

A recirculating document handler for simplex or duplex copying that is adapted to a fixed platen copier includes an oval shaped document path that is folded over the platen for duplex copying. For simplex copying, a second document path disects the duplex path diagonally. A reversing cavity extends from one end of the platen and is adapted to receive a document during simplex copying and return the document with the use of reversible rollers along the diagonal path to the original feed position. A deflector directs documents to either the duplex or simplex paths depending on operator console selections.

Recirculating simplex/duplex document handler

Method and apparatus are herein disclosed for xerographically reproducing a color copy from a multi-color original. A moving photoconductive surface is sequentially exposed through color filters to form a series of color separated latent electrostatic images thereon. Each image formulated contains original input scene information of selected colors recorded at a first image potential and other input scene information recorded at a second potential, the first recorded potential being greater in magnitude that the second recorded potential. Development of the images is achieved by passing an electroscopic developer material between the photoconductive surface and a control electrode biased to a potential somewhere between the first and second image potentials found on the photoconductor whereby recorded input scene information containing the selected color is developed and, simultaneously therewith, development of all other information is prevented. In this particular process, the color separated light images are formulated by passing reflected light from the multi-color original sequentially through red, green and blue filters and the images developed by applying a cyan toner to the red separated image, a magenta to the green separated image and a yellow to the blue separated image. The three developed images are placed in superimposed registration upon a final support material to produce a high fidelity copy of the multi-color original.
