Apparatus for ensuring adequate sunscreen protection includes a light-activated sunscreen product, and an illuminator including a battery, a switch and a light source that causes the light-activated sunscreen product to glow when illuminated with the light source. The light-activated sunscreen product may include a zinc-oxide-based lotion and a fluorescent substance such as fluorescein dye causing the lotion to glow in any available color when applied to the skin and illuminated by the light source. The closure may be a cap with a threaded attachment to the container, and the light source may comprise one or more ultraviolet light-emitting diodes. The illuminator may be disposed in a cap with top and side surfaces, and the switch may be positioned on the side of the cap, and the light source on the top of the cap, or vice versa. The switch is preferably a momentary contact switch.

A disposable, molded probe cover for use with an electronic thermometer is disclosed. The probe cover comprises an elongated hollow body made of a plastic material which defines a distal end and a proximal end. The distal end of the body has a convex-shaped surface that defines a lubrication well adapted to hold a lubricant therein, while the proximal end forms an opening. The opening communicates with a chamber that extends the entire length of the body and is sized and shaped to receive a probe of the electronic thermometer. To vent air trapped in the chamber during insertion of the probe into the probe cover, the chamber is provided with an axial ridge defined along a portion of the chamber for allowing air trapped at the distal end of the chamber to escape the probe cover through the electronic thermometer. A plurality of detents are also provided along the chamber proximate the opening for securely engaging the probe and establishing a fluid tight seal between the probe cover and the thermometer. When the probe cover is inserted into a patient body cavity, the lubricant spreads outwardly from the lubrication well and spreads over the exterior surface of the probe cover.

The present invention relates to an access device which is provided as part of the packaging of a blunt tip cannula or blunt tip cannula/syringe combination. The access device is preferably positioned within an elongate sheath which also protects the blunt tip cannula and which also includes an internal barrier which separates the distal end of the blunt cannula from the distal end of the access device and protects one of the access pin or blunt tip cannula from exposure or contamination while the other is being used.

An anti-free flow device is disclosed for a fluid administration system having a tube assembly engageable with a pump having one end of the tube assembly connected to a source of fluid and the other end in fluid flow communication with a patient. The valve device comprises a tube portion defining a channel in-line along a portion of the tube assembly and a body disposed and securely retained inside the channel. Fluid flow is initiated through the tube assembly whenever the tube assembly is in a stretched condition, such as when the tube assembly is engaged with the pump. However, fluid free flow is prevented whenever the tube assembly is in a relaxed condition or disengaged from the pump.

An intravenous connection clip for preventing separation of two tubular fluid flow connectors of respective intravenous (IV) tubing sets. The intravenous connection clip includes a generally tubular bracket for surrounding the fluid flow connectors and having large portions of the tube cut away to allow for easy visualization of the fluid flow connectors and the fluid path therethrough. The bracket of the IV connection clip having a generally 'C' shaped port lock on a first end of the bracket having a pair of first arms for releasably gripping a conventional port of a first IV tubing set, a generally 'U' shaped cannula and luer connector lock on an intermediate portion of the bracket for releasably contacting a conventional luer connector of a second IV tubing set fluidly coupled to the port of the first IV tubing set. The bracket further has a retaining clip on a second, or opposite, end of the bracket from the port lock having a pair of second arms for releasably gripping the tubing immediately adjacent the luer connector for assisting in preventing accidental disengagement of the fluid flow connectors. The second arms of the retaining clip further providing a strain relief or additional support for the tubing of the second tubing set, and retention of the IV connection clip on the tubing of the second tubing set away from the IV connectors for convenient storage between uses.

A fluid collection and disposal system which includes a reusable collection unit designed to be cleaned by a servicing unit after use. The servicing unit performs an automatic servicing cycle to remove the collected fluid from the collection unit and prepare it for reuse.

A fluid collection and disposal system which includes a reusable collection unit designed to operate in conjunction with a disposable manifold for collecting fluids aspirated from a patient during a surgical procedure, and to be cleaned by a servicing unit after use. The servicing unit removes the collected fluid from the collection unit and prepares it for reuse. The disposable manifold is removed from the collection unit prior to its attachment to the servicing unit, and a new disposable manifold is replaced on the collection unit after servicing.

A chest drainage device having a collection chamber, a water seal chamber and a suction control chamber wherein the suction control chamber includes first and second columns and wherein the top end of the first column is open to the atmosphere and the top end of the second column is in flow communication with a vacuum source. The bottom end of the first and second columns are preferably in flow communication with a float chamber to increase the effective dynamic water height of the liquid in the suction chamber and to decrease the required overall height of suction control chamber of the chest drainage device while maintaining same operational range as prior chest drainage devices.

A chest drainage unit having a suction regulator in fluid communication with the suction control chamber for regulating the suction pressure applied to the pleural cavity of the patient wherein the suction regulator includes a valve device which provides a continuous amount of fluid communication between the atmosphere and the suction source in the normally closed position and being movable to an open position in response to the increased negative pressure to allow an increase in the amount of fluid communication between the atmosphere and the suction source.

A fine tip hand-held medical suction device is provided having a vent orifice in the sidewall of the tip remote from the suction orifice of the tip and the hand holding portion of the device to regulate the negative pressure at the suction orifice. A fluid flow restriction orifice in the flow passage is disposed close to the vent orifice.

A drainage device for draining fluids from the pleural cavity into a collection chamber, the device including a housing having a collection chamber therein and apparatus for supporting a liquid seal chamber in the chamber above the collection chamber. The liquid seal chamber includes a connection to a drainage device in a patient and apparatus enabling visible monitoring of the condition in the liquid seal chamber including at the location where fluids and gases from the patient enter the liquid seal chamber. The device has a novel overflow arrangement for materials to move from the liquid seal chamber into the collection chamber and it has a novel baffle assembly located in the liquid seal chamber to separate the liquid seal chamber into distinct chamber portions.
