A process for the oligomerization of propylene is disclosed wherein a tungstated zirconia catalyst prepared as a distillation structure is used in a reaction distillation zone under conditions of temperature and pressure to concurrently react the propylene to produce oligomers thereof and separate the oligomer products from unreacted propylene by fractional distillation in a distillation column reactor. Compared to the prior art tubular or plug flow reactors, lower temperatures and pressures are used to produce higher conversions and selectivities to preferred isomeric forms useful for preparing neo acids.

Propylene oligomerization process

A process for the oligomerization of propylene is disclosed wherein MCM-22 zeolite prepared as a distillation structure is used in a reaction distillation zone under conditions of temperature and pressure to concurrently react the propylene to produce oligomers thereof and separate the oligomer products from unreacted propylene by fractional distillation in a distillation column reactor. Compared to the prior art tubular or plug flow reactors, lower temperatures and pressures are used to produce higher conversions and selectivities to preferred isomeric forms.

In a process for oligomerizing a Cto Cn-olefin feedstock over surface deactivated ZSM-23, the feedstock contains from about 0.1 wt % to about 25 wt % of an iso-olefin and the C+ fraction of the oligomerized olefin product contains less than 0.5 atom % of quaternary carbon atoms.

Olefin oligomerization process

A process for the reduction of naphthalene in process streams containing alkylaromatic solvents. Naphthalene is contacted with alkylbenzenes in a distillation column reactor in the presence of transalkylation catalyst to produce alkylnaphthalenes which are concurrently separated by fractional distillation as bottoms and the alkylbenzenes are separated as overheads.

Alkenes, such as normal butenes in a mixed Cstream are oligomerized, preferably to dimers, which are dimerized in a distillation column reactor over ZSM-57 zeolite catalyst at high conversions and high selectivity to octenes. Prior to oligomerization the mixed Cstream is pretreated to remove dimethyl ether, butadienes and sulfur compounds.

The invention provides for a purified glycidyl ester product prepared from neo acids wherein said ester product is recovered as a light fraction from a glycidyl ester reaction product composition that has been subjected to conditions of temperature and vacuum in a thin film, short pass distillation evaporator, said purified glycidyl ester product further characterized that its polymerizable reaction product with methacrylic acid has a higher effective glass transition temperature as compared with the polymerizable reaction product with methacrylic acid of said glycidyl ester reaction product composition prior to purification.

Glycidyl ester adducts having increased glass transition temperatures

A process for reproducibly forming a thermally and oxidatively stable high hydroxyl glycerol di-ester compound which is particularly useful as a lubricant. The glycerol di-ester compound is formed by reacting a glycidyl ester with an excess of a neo acid salt. The di-ester product is produced in a nearly quantitative conversion and is readily recoverable from the reaction mixture via a water wash, vacuum dry, and a mild wiped film evaporator treatment.

A hydrocarbon composition functionalized via the Koch reaction which is the reaction product of at least one hydrocarbon having a number average molecular weight of less than 500 and at least one ethylenic double bond per molecule, with carbon monoxide and a nucleophilic trapping agent. The hydrocarbon is usefully functionalized and derivatized, producing, in particular, lubricants suitable for use in two-cycle engines.

A method for producing 3-methyl-2-pentene which is substantially free of any other C.sub.6 olefin, except 2-ethyl-1-butene, by first producing a stream that contains 2-ethyl-1-butene from the trimerization of ethylene, and second by recovering the 2-ethyl-1-butene as 3-methyl-2-pentene via etherification, separation of the ether, and decomposition of the ether back to predominantly 3-methyl-2-pentene with some 2-ethyl-1-butene.

A process for purifying crude dicyclopentadiene which comprises the steps of: cracking the crude dicyclopentadiene to form a monomeric-containing effluent which comprises at least one monomer selected from the group consisting of: C.sub.4 acyclic dienes, C.sub.5 acyclic dienes, cyclopentadiene and methylcyclopentadiene; separating the monomeric-containing effluent into a cyclopentadiene-enriched stream and a cyclopentadiene-poor stream; dimerizing the cyclopentadiene-enriched stream to form a dimerizer effluent; contacting a membrane separator under pervaporation conditions with the dimerizer effluent wherein the C.sub.4 acyclic dienes, C.sub.5 acyclic dienes and cyclopentadiene permeate through the membrane separator and wherein a dicyclopentadiene product having a purity of at least about 98% is retained as retentate.
