A monofilament with longitudinally oriented grooves and fabrics made thereof having reduced air permeability, wherein the reduced permeability is achieved without using additional coatings or stuffer yarns. Bicomponent monofilaments made from these grooved monofilaments using solution or wire coating have improved coating adhesion and may also include a conductive coating. In addition, the grooved bicomponent monofilaments may include a wear-indicating mechanism. Also disclosed are monofilaments with grooves formed in its surfaces. Advantageously, these grooved monofilaments exhibit improved adhesion to 'sheet-grip' coatings, as compared with circular monofilaments. In addition, fabrics comprising these grooved monofilaments demonstrate improved air handling. The grooved monofilaments may be incorporated in a fabric as MD yarns, CD yarns, or both CD and MD yarns.

Shaped monofilaments with grooves and the fabrics made thereof

A papermaker's fabric includes first and second layers of cross-machine-direction (CD) yarns and a plurality of machine-direction (MD) yarns interwoven therewith and arranged in groups each having a first, two second, and two third MD yarns. The first MD yarn binds with two CD yarns of the first layer and with two CD yarns of the second layer. The second MD yarns bind with only one CD yarn of the first layer and floats over at least two consecutive CD yarns of the second layer. The third MD yarns bind with only one CD yarn of the first layer and floats over at least two consecutive CD yarns of the second layer. The second MD yarns are offset from the third MD yarns in a direction parallel to the MD yarns. The first MD yarn is between the two second MD yarns which are between the third MD yarns so as to form a continuous air channel.

Air channel dryer fabric

A papermaker's fabric, usable with a dryer section on a paper machine, has a first layer and a second layer of cross-machine-direction (CD) yarns. Interwoven with the CD yarns in a duplex weave is a system of MD yarns. The MD yarns are provided in groups of at least two adjacent MD yarns. Each group has one first MD yarn and one or more second MD yarn. The first MD yarn interweaves between the first and second layers of CD yarns, each time binding with only one CD yarn. Each second MD yarn also interweaves between first and second layers of CD yarns, each time binding with only one CD yarn in the first layer, but floating over at least two CD yarns in the second layer. The first MD yarn is between the one or more second MD yarns in its group and those of an adjacent group, and defines a continuous air channel on the surface of the fabric.

Pull-on leader

A papermaker's fabric includes a system of machine-direction (MD) yarns interwoven with a system of cross-machine direction (CD) yarns. The MD yarns are pairs of a first MD yarn and a second MD yarn. The first and second MD yarns are of a substantially rectangular cross section having identical width and thickness. The first and second MD yarns of each pair weave side-by-side as a single yarn with the CD yarns through the fabric. The CD yarns are of circular cross section. The fabric has a permeability to air less than 150 cubic feet per minute per square foot at 0.5 inch H.sub.2 O-pressure.

Papermaker's fabric having paired identical machine-direction yarns

An on-machine-seamable papermakers' fabric having a smooth surface and a prolonged life includes flat machine-direction yarns which define the upper and lower surfaces thereof. The fabric has two layers of cross-machine direction yarns, each of which is interwoven with the flat machine-direction yarns. Other machine-direction yarns, of round cross section, weave with the cross-machine-direction yarns in the two layers to bind the two layers together. The knuckles of these round machine-direction yarns are within the fabric with respect to the planes defined by the flat machine-direction yarns, and, and a consequence, are less susceptible to degradation by heat and abrasion. The papermakers' fabric is seamed into endless form during installation on a paper machine. At one of the two ends of the fabric, seaming loops are formed by the round machine-direction yarns. At the other of the two ends, seaming loops are formed by the flat machine-direction yarns. The seaming loops are interdigitated with one another when the two ends of the fabric are brought together during installation on the paper machine, defining a passage through which a seaming pin or pintle may be directed to join the two ends to one another.

Seam design for a dryer fabric

A papermaker's fabric includes a system of machine-direction (MD) yarns interwoven with a system of cross-machine direction (CD) yarns. The MD yarns are pairs of a first MD yarn and a second MD yarn. The first MD yarn and the second MD yarn in each pair are different from one another. The first MD yarn is of a substantially rectangular cross section having a preselected width and thickness. The second MD yarn may be either of a substantially rectangular cross section or of a circular cross section. If of a substantially rectangular cross section, the second MD yarn is narrower than the first MD yarn. The thickness, or diameter, of the second MD yarn is less than that of the first MD yarn. The first and second MD yarns of each pair weave side-by-side as a single yarn with the CD yarns through the fabric.

Paper machine clothing comprising interwoven machine direction and cross-machine direction yarns are provided, wherein the machine direction yarns are monofilaments having specific resistance to hydrolysis. The woven fabrics, after heat-setting, exhibit exceptional resistance to abrasion and hydrolysis.

Paper machine clothing comprising interwoven machine direction and cross-machine direction yarns are provided, wherein the machine direction yarns are monofilaments having a cross-sectional configuration such that the center is thinner than the lateral edges. The woven fabrics, after heat-setting, exhibit exceptional dimensional stability in the diagonal direction.

The disclosure is of a seam construction for multilayered corrugator belts. The construction comprises woven complementary seam-halves joined by pintles and in which each seam-half comprises 2 connectors, each being a single and a double layer zone mechanically bound by the nature of the weave and in which the crosswise yarns of each connector form alternately displaced loops on one edge thereof which can be intermeshed with like loops formed on the edge of the opposite connector. The connectors are attached to a step in each end of the multilayered corrugator belt.

The disclosure is of a multi-layer, flat woven, composite fabric having a duplex weave base of synthetic, polymeric resin yarns and soft surfaces of multi-filament or spun yarns. The fabric is useful as a conventional corrugator belt when made endless.

Corrugator belt with high air permeability

The disclosure is of a seam construction for joining the ends of woven papermakers felt or dryer felts, wet felts forming fabrics characterized in part by a first system of lengthwise yarns in one layer and a second system of lengthwise yarns positioned above the first system. The seam comprises looped ends of the lengthwise yarns projecting from the respective ends of the fabric, and positioned to interleaf with the opposite end loops. Pins are placed through the interleafed loops so as to provide joinder in the two systems, respectively, of the felt or fabric.

Seam construction for multi-layer felts

The disclosure is of a multi-layer, flat woven, composite fabric having a duplex weave base of synthetic, polymeric resin monofilaments and a soft surface of multi-filament or spun yarns. The fabric is useful as a conventional dryer felt and may also be used as a hot air impingement dryer felt. The fabric is especially advantageous for dryer felts employed for the manufacture of fragile papers.
