Examples of the disclosure include a power system comprising an input to receive input power, an output to provide power to a load, a sensor configured to provide load information indicative of power drawn by the load, a plurality of power modules, each having a power module input configured to be coupled to the input, and a power module output configured to be coupled to the output, and a controller coupled to the power modules and the sensor, and being configured to control the power modules to provide power to the output, receive the load information from the sensor, select, based on the load information, at least one power module to maintain in an active state to provide power to the output, and deactivate each power module other than the at least one power module based on selecting the at least one power module to maintain in the active state.

High-efficiency modular uninterruptible power supply

According to a first aspect, an uninterruptable power supply is provided. In one example, the uninterruptable power supply comprises a controller configured to provide a first current reference signal, the first current reference signal having a periodic waveform including a first half period and a second half period, each half period having a period end, the waveform comprising a substantially rectified sine wave modified such that a value of the rectified sine wave is equal to zero for a predetermined period of time prior to the period end of the second half period, a positive current loop control circuit configured to receive the first current reference signal and provide an output signal to the positive boost circuit, and a negative current loop control circuit configured to provide an output signal to a negative boost circuit.

According to one aspect, embodiments of the invention provide a method of operating a UPS system having a first UPS and a second UPS coupled in parallel to provide output power to a load from a power source, each of the first UPS and the second UPS having an inverter and having a bypass switch, with each UPS configured to operate in one of an inverter mode in which output power is derived from the power source through the inverter, and a bypass mode in which output power is derived from the power source bypassing the inverter, the method comprising powering on the first UPS and the second UPS in the inverter mode of operation, designating one of the first UPS and the second UPS as a master UPS, and controlling the bypass switch of the first UPS and the bypass switch of the second UPS using the master UPS.

Parallel control and protection for UPS

An uninterruptible power supply includes a first input to receive input power from an input power source, an output to provide output power, a switch, a first logic power supply coupled to the switch, a back-up power source, a charger, a main logic power supply and power converter circuitry. The switch is configured to close when a characteristic of the input power is within a selected range. The first logic power supply is coupled to the switch and configured to receive input power from the input power source when the switch is closed. The first logic power supply has a first DC output. The back-up power source has a second DC output and is coupled to the first DC output at a common node. The charger has a third DC output and is coupled to the common node. The main logic power supply is coupled to the common node and is configured to receive at least one of the first DC output, the second DC output and the third DC output. The power converter circuitry is coupled to the backup power source and the first input and is configured to provides the output power derived from at least one of power at the first input and power from the backup power source.

Systems and methods for operating an uninterruptible power supply

According to one aspect, embodiments of the invention provide a method of operating a UPS system having a first UPS, the method comprising powering on the first UPS, detecting a first signal at a first I/O of the first UPS using a first detection circuit of the first UPS, detecting a second signal at a second I/O of the first UPS using a second detection circuit of the first UPS, based on a status of the first signal and a status of the second signal, configuring the first UPS to operate in one of a master mode of operation and a controlled mode of operation.

Methods and apparatus for providing uninterruptible power

A front-end converter in an uninterruptible power supply system is described. In an exemplary design, a front-end converter includes a boost circuit having first and second inputs, positive, negative, and neutral output nodes, an inductor, AC inputs, a battery, and first and second devices. The boost circuit is configured to provide a positive capacitor voltage between the positive and neutral nodes and to provide a negative capacitor voltage between the negative and neutral nodes. The first device selectively couples the inductor to a first AC input or a positive port of the battery and the second device selectively couples a negative port of the battery to the second input. The inductor is coupled to the first input and is shared between an online mode of the converter and an on-battery mode of the converter. The battery is coupled through the inductor to the first input during the on-battery mode.

AC-to-DC conversion

Systems and methods for operating an uninterruptable power supply are provided. The uninterruptable power supply may include a rectifier that has a transistor and an inductor. The uninterruptable power supply may also include a controller. A current sensor can be configured to detect inductor current and to provide a detected inductor current value to the controller to generate a current error value based and to generate a pulse width modulation control signal based in part on the current error value. The controller can apply the pulse width modulation control signal to the transistor to adjust a switching frequency of the transistor.

Apparatus and method for operating an uninterruptible power supply

Power supply systems and methods are provided. In one aspect, a power supply system includes a frame, a power input to receive input power from a power source, a power output to provide output power to a load, at least one battery module mounted in the frame and having a battery output that provides battery power, at least one power module mounted in the frame and coupled to the power input to receive the input power, coupled to the battery output to receive the battery power, and coupled to the power output to provide the output power from at least one of the battery power and the input power, a first controller coupled to the at least one power module, and a second controller, substantially similar to the first controller, coupled to the first controller, and coupled to the at least one power module, wherein each of the first controller and the second controller are configured to determine operational parameters of the power supply system and store a first set of parameters determined by the first controller and a second set of parameters determined by the second controller.

At least one aspect is directed to an uninterruptible power supply that includes a first input to receive a first input voltage from a first voltage source, a second input to receive a second input voltage from a second voltage source, and a boost circuit coupled to the first input and the second input. The boost circuit is configured to provide a positive output DC voltage and a negative output DC voltage derived from at least one of the first input voltage and the second input voltage. The uninterruptible power supply is configured such that in a back-up mode of operation, the negative output DC voltage is derived from the second input voltage using a circuit that includes at least two controlled switches coupled in series.

Method and apparatus for providing uninterruptible power

A power supply system has a power input to receive input power from a power source, a power output to provide output power to a load, at least one battery module having a battery output that provides battery power, at least one power module coupled to the power input to receive the input power, coupled to the battery output to receive the battery power and coupled to the power output to provide the output power, a controller, coupled to the at least one power module, constructed and arranged to monitor and control the output power from the at least one power module, and a redundant controller, coupled to the at least one power module and to the controller, constructed and arranged to provide redundant monitoring and controlling of the output power from the at least one power module.
