A sensing apparatus can be configured to detect an edge of a paper that is received by an automated transaction machine (ATM). The paper can move along a path located inside the ATM, the path having opposite first and second sides. The sensing apparatus can include a light emitter and a light detector on the first side of the path, with the light emitter positioned so that it can emit light across the path to the second side. The light detector can be configured to detect light from the light emitter and can emit a signal corresponding to an amount of detected light. The sensing apparatus can also include a control circuit that can control a flow of power to the light emitter, and the control circuit can also receive the signal emitted by the sensor.

An automated transaction machine includes a plurality of cassettes of at least two different configurations. A first cassette may include multiple cavities with an internal transport, while a second cassette includes a single cavity. A first cassette may include lid access from both a top and bottom, while a second cassette only includes lid access from a top.

An automated transaction machine (ATM) can include a housing, a display, a cash recycler, and a check receiver. The display can be mounted to the housing and directed toward an exterior of the housing. The cash recycler can be configured to receive a first note of currency from a first user of the ATM and dispense the first note of currency to a subsequent, second user of the ATM. The check receiver can be positioned in the housing, an intake portion with an inlet communicating with the exterior of the housing, and a check reader portion configured to receive a check from the intake portion, scan data displayed on the check, and store the check. The intake portion can be positioned below the display and the check reader portion is positioned behind the display.

A modular ATM is disclosed herein and can include a safe with a first port, at least one currency cassette and dispenser both positioned in the safe, a currency conveyor, and a plurality of linking transport assemblies. The dispenser can move banknotes between the cassette and the first port. The currency conveyor can be positioned on the safe, have second and third ports, and move banknotes between the second and third ports. The currency conveyor can be positionable in a plurality of different orientations and offsets relative to the safe. The plurality of linking transport assemblies can each be individually engageable with the currency conveyor. Each of the linking transport assembly moves banknotes between the first port of the safe and the second port of the currency conveyor. Each linking transport assembly is individually positionable between the safe and the currency conveyor.

Modular automated transaction machine

An automatic transaction machine (ATM) prints on both sides of a document having a first side and a second side. A printer rotates about a printer axis allowing the printer to move between a first positon and a second position. A transport moves a document adjacent the printer in the first position. While in the first position the printer is configured to print on a first side of the document as the document passes the printer on the transport. A document spool with a spool axis receives the document from the transport and at least partially rotates the document so the first side of the document is facing toward the spool axis. The printer rotates about the printer axis to the second position to print on the second side of the document that is facing outward away from the spool axis.

An automated-transaction machine includes a fascia gate mechanism for presenting and accepting notes of value. The fascia gate mechanism maintains structural integrity of the automated-transaction machine before a transaction, during a transaction, and after a transaction has taken place. The fascia gate mechanism comprises a separable gear drive for the opening and closing of the fascia gate.

An escrow unit has an escrow wheel and a movable-continuous belt. The escrow wheel rotates about an axis. The movable-continuous belt is wrapped partially around the escrow wheel forming an open gap between the belt and escrow wheel. The open gap allows the belt to transport a document through the open gap and to store the document by holding the document between the belt and the escrow wheel.

A core module for an Automated Transaction Machine (ATM) includes a housing including a plurality of cassette bays, a first document delivery system, and a second document delivery system. The first document delivery system is capable of transporting a document between the cassette and the second document delivery system via a first transport path. The second document delivery system is capable of transporting a document between the first document delivery system and an other ATM location via a second transport path.

An apparatus that operates to cause financial transfers responsive to data read from data bearing records, includes at least one processor that is in operative connection with a card reader, a check acceptor, a cash dispenser and a display. The automated banking machine includes a card reader that is operative to read card data from user cards corresponding to financial accounts. The automated banking machine is further operative to provide users with a receipt for transactions conducted. The automated banking machine includes a cash dispenser operative to dispense cash to machine users and to cause the value of cash to be assessed to financial accounts corresponding to card data. The automated banking machine is further operative to receive currency bills or other sheets from a user and to process and store such sheets through operation of a currency accepting device. The account corresponding to card data may be credited for the value of bills or other sheets received.

The cassette module may include but is not limited to a divert cassette positioned for easy access and a light pipe system for detecting when sheets are entering or leaving a cassette. The cassette may include but Is not limited to a cassette with an ink staining that does not reduce the capacity of the cassette, a torsion spring assembly coupled with a push plate in a cassette, a thumper and feed wheel assembly, and a method of assembling a thumper and feed wheel assembly that provides for proper timing of the feed wheels with the thumper wheels.
