A device for sealing and anchoring within a tubular member. The device comprises a top swage member disposed within the tubular member, with the top swage member having a longitudinal center of axis. Also included is a first sealing member disposed about the top swage member, with the first sealing member containing a first plurality of circumferential ribs disposed about the first sealing member, The device may also include a second sealing member that is attached to the first sealing member, with the second sealing member containing a second plurality of circumferential ribs disposed about the second sealing member. A bottom swage member is disposed within the second sealing member, with the bottom swage member having a longitudinal center of axis. The device further comprises a setting apparatus for driving the top swage longitudinally downward relative to the top swage's longitudinal center axis and for driving the bottom swage longitudinally upward relative to the bottom swage's center axis. In the preferred embodiment, the top swage member has a first cylindrical surface that extends to a second conical surface, and wherein the first cylindrical surface disposed within the first sealing member. Additionally, the bottom swage member will have a first cylindrical surface that extends to a second conical surface, with the first cylindrical surface being disposed within the second sealing member. A method of anchoring and sealing a device within a tubular member is also included.

Ribbed sealing element and method of use

A device for sealing and anchoring within a tubular member. The device comprises a top swage member disposed within the tubular member, with the top swage member having a longitudinal center of axis. Also included is a first sealing member disposed about the top swage member, with the first sealing member containing a first plurality of circumferential ribs disposed about the first sealing member. The device may also include a second sealing member that is attached to the first sealing member, with the second sealing member containing a second plurality of circumferential ribs disposed about the second sealing member. A bottom swage member is disposed within the second sealing member, with the bottom swage member having a longitudinal center of axis. The device further comprises a setting apparatus for driving the top swage longitudinally downward relative to the top swage's longitudinal center axis and for driving the bottom swage longitudinally upward relative to the bottom swage's center axis. In the preferred embodiment, the top swage member has a first cylindrical surface that extends to a second conical surface, and wherein the first cylindrical surface is disposed within the first sealing member. Additionally, the bottom swage member will have a first cylindrical surface that extends to a second conical surface, with the first cylindrical surface being disposed within the second sealing member. A method of anchoring and sealing a device within a tubular member is also included.

An apparatus for jetting a fluid within a tubular member. The apparatus may comprise a cylindrical member having an outer portion and an inner portion, an outer sleeve disposed about the cylindrical member forming an annulus area, and a venturi device for jetting the fluid against the inner diameter walls of the tubular string. The venturi device comprises a nozzle disposed within the cylindrical member and a throat formed within the outer sleeve. A recirculation port is formed on the outer sleeve for communicating the fluid from a second annulus area to a first annulus area adjacent the throat. Also disclosed is a method of cleaning a tubular string with a power medium. The method includes providing a wash apparatus concentrically positioned within the tubular string. The power medium may be a fluid or air. In the preferred embodiment, the power medium is a fluid. The method further comprises circulating the power medium down the inner portion of the cylindrical member and exiting the power medium from the nozzle. An area of low pressure is formed at the tip of the nozzle within the first annulus area which causes fluid from the second annulus to enter the first annulus via the recirculation passage and thereafter mixing the power medium and fluid within the throat. Thereafter, the mixture is exited from the throat.

Method for jetting a fluid

A device for sealing and anchoring within a tubular member. The device includes a top swage member disposed within the tubular member, with the top swage member having a longitudinal center of axis. Additionally, the bottom swage member will have a first cylindrical surface that extends to a second conical surface, with the first cylindrical surface being disposed within the second sealing member. A method of anchoring and sealing a device within a tubular member is also included.

Apparatus for jetting a fluid

An apparatus for creating a pulling force on a bottom hole assembly contained within a bore hole is disclosed. Generally, the apparatus comprises a housing, a piston having a first section and a second section, and a venturi member, operatively associated with the piston, adapted for creating a zone of low pressure. In one embodiment, the housing is attached to a work string and the piston is attached to a bottom hole assembly. The first section of the piston and the housing forms a first chamber. The second section of the piston and the housing forms a second chamber. The venturi member contains a first passageway for communicating the zone of low pressure created by the venturi member with the first chamber; and a second passageway for communicating the inner diameter of the venturi means with the second chamber. In the preferred embodiment, the venturi member comprises a nozzle operatively associated with the piston; a mixing tube, formed on the inner diameter of the piston; and, a diffuser section adjoining the mixing tube. A method of moving a piston in a down hole environment is also disclosed.

Method and apparatus for moving a piston

A device for latching onto a down hole object located within a well bore is claimed. The device will include a mandrel connected to a work string and with an end adapted to engage the object. The device also includes a biasing member disposed about the mandrel; and, a collet member operatively disposed about the mandrel. The collet member will have a first end adapted to cooperate with the biasing member and a second end that contains an engaging member, operatively associated with the second end of the mandrel, for engaging the object. The mandrel and the collet member cooperate to form a chamber. The device will also include a locking member, contained within the chamber, for locking the mandrel and collet member together so that the mandrel and collet member act as one member. The locking member includes: a detent member; a housing member containing the detent member; a piston, adapted for containment within the chamber, for activating the locking member; and, a groove on the mandrel that cooperates with the detent member. The device may further comprise an activation port, associated with the mandrel, for activating the piston so that the housing member holds the detent member within the groove. The work string may be attached to a drill string, coiled tubing string or other work string. The object may be a stuck down hole tool, a down hole packer means, or some other type of apparatus used in the drilling, completion, and/or production of wells. Also disclosed is a method of engaging a down hole object with the spear device.

Method and apparatus for engaging an object

A novel venturi device located within a tubular member for accelerating the flow of an effluent is disclosed. The device will generally comprise a tubular member containing a throat section, a diffuser section and an opening contained on the tubular member for allowing the injection of a gas therethrough. The device also includes an inner mandrel contained within the tubular member. The inner mandrel contains a nozzle member defining an internal chamber. The inner mandrel also contains a first passageway and a second passageway for directing the effluent therethrough. The nozzle is operatively associated with the opening contained on the tubular member. In one embodiment, a flow diverter member is included for diverting the production effluent into the first passageway and into the nozzle annulus. A method of accelerating production with a venturi device within a tubing string is also disclosed.

Method for accelerating production

A method of increasing the production from a well completed to a reservoir is disclosed. Generally, the method comprises the steps of installing a venturi device within the well. A gas is injected within the annulus and introduced into the well. The venturi device creates a zone of low pressure within the well as well as accelerating the velocity of the production fluids so that the inflow from the reservoir is increased. In one embodiment, the venturi device is associated with a gas lift mandrel located in the well.

Apparatus and method for disconnection and connection of tubular members, by remote pressure means, includes: First tubular housing having a male extension, second tubular housing having a mating female recess, latch blocks disposed radially in openings of the male extension, slotted piston for operating the latch blocks, pilot piston, detent lock-out mechanism operated by pilot piston movement, pilot piston shear pins, and piston bias/return springs. The hydraulic disconnect is typically installed in a tubular work string where remote disconnection may be required. Latch blocks, extending radially through openings of the male extension and into annular grooves of the mating female recess, connect the first and second housings together. Fluid flow is permitted through axial bores of the first tubular housing, pilot piston, slotted piston and second tubular housing. Disconnection is accomplished by application of a pre-selected pressure differential across the pilot piston, typically by pumping a sealing ball to the pilot piston. Sufficient pressure differential overcomes shear pin means and the bias spring of the pilot piston causing it to axially shift. Movement of the pilot piston releases a lock-out mechanism allowing the slotted piston to axially extend. Extension of the slotted piston allows latch block retraction, thereby permitting the male and female bodies to axially disconnect. Re-connection follows a reverse process wherein pressure is applied to withdraw the latch block, the first and second housings are physically connected, and pressure is withdrawn to extend blocks and lock the housings together.
