An outboard engine has a bracket. A drive unit mounted thereto is pivotable about a steering axis with respect thereto by a steering actuator. A motor operatively connected to the steering actuator is mounted to the bracket and rotationally fixed with respect thereto about the steering axis. A control module includes a motor drive electrically connected to the motor and configured to be connected to a power source. An electrically conductive thermal element is electrically connected to the motor. A temperature of the thermal element is indicative of a temperature of the motor. A controller is configured to obtain the temperature of the thermal element and to control power delivered to the motor via the motor drive based at least in part on the temperature of the thermal element. The controller and the thermal element are mounted to the drive unit and pivotable therewith about the steering axis.

Power steering control system and method for an outboard engine of a watercraft

An electrical system for an outboard engine has a generator, a starter motor, a connector having first, second and third connector terminals, the first connector terminal being connected to the generator, the second connector terminal being connected to the starter motor, and the third connector terminal being connected to ground, and a cap connected to the connector. The cap has a first cap terminal connected to the first connector terminal and a second cap terminal connected to the second connector terminal. The first cap terminal is connected to the second cap terminal. An electrical system having a battery connected to the connector instead of the cap is also disclosed. An outboard engine having the system is also disclosed.

Battery connection system for an outboard engine

A marine outboard engine has an engine, a cowling, an alternator, and a controller electrically connected to the alternator. A primary charger is electrically connected to the alternator and is adapted to charge a primary energy storage device. A starter motor is selectively operatively connected to the engine and is adapted to be electrically connected to the primary energy storage device. An auxiliary charger is electrically connected to the alternator and is adapted to charge at least one auxiliary battery adapted to power an auxiliary device. The controller, the primary charger and the auxiliary charger are disposed inside the cowling. A vehicle bus connects the auxiliary charger with the controller to provide data from the controller to the auxiliary charger. A watercraft having the marine outboard engine and an auxiliary device is also disclosed.

A method of displacing a pumping assembly. In a first step, a first current is applied in a first direction through a coil assembly to displace a drive assembly from an initial position to cause a first pumping motion. Then, the drive assembly is returned to the initial position to cause a second pumping motion. At some point nearing the end of the second pumping motion, a second current is applied in the first direction through the coil assembly to decelerate the drive assembly before it reaches the initial position. A third current may be applied in a second direction through the coil assembly to cause or assist a return of the drive assembly to the initial position. An apparatus capable of carrying out the method is also disclosed.

Method of controlling a pumping assembly

A reciprocating pump includes a drive section and a pump section. The drive section has a reciprocating coil assembly to which alternating polarity control signals are applied by a reciprocating circuit during operation. A permanent magnet structure of the drive section creates a magnetic flux field which interacts with an electromagnetic field produced during application of the control signals to the coil. Depending upon the polarity of the control signals applied to the coil, the coil is driven in one of two directions of movement. The reciprocating circuit employs a storage capacitor and several switches to capture the energy of the reciprocating coil as the pump is driven downwardly. The charge is recycled as the capacitor dissipates, thereby reversing the polarity of the current through the coil and driving the coil assembly upwardly to its initial position. A drive member transfers movement of the coil to a pump element which reciprocates with the coil to draw fluid into a pump chamber and expel the fluid during each pump cycle. The pump is particularly well suited to cyclic pumping applications, such as fuel injection systems for internal combustion engines.

A control unit assembly is disclosed including a housing, at least one processor to control operation of an engine, and a voltage regulator configured to regulate a voltage of at least one rail of the engine. The at least one processing unit and the voltage regulator reside on a common circuit board.

A system and method to dynamically control a switching alternator is disclosed. A switching alternator system is disclosed that includes a plurality of windings configured to deliver an AC power and a plurality of switches configured to switch an electrical configuration of the plurality of windings. A processor is included that is programmed to control the plurality of switches to deliver a desired DC power.

Dynamically controlled switching alternator system

An engine control unit enablement circuit is disclosed that selectively closes a conductive path between a chargeable electrical energy source and electronics of an engine/motor. An engine position sensor provides feedback as to the rotational position of a rotating component of an engine to the enablement circuit. When the rotating component, e.g. crankshaft or flywheel, is rotating, the enablement circuit closes the conductive path and allows the transference of electrical energy from the energy source to the engine and motor electronics. Conversely, when feedback is received indicative of non-rotation of the rotating component, the enablement circuit opens the conductive path. As such, energy stored in the energy source remains stored. With a subsequent detection of rotation of the rotating component, the conductive is closed and the stored energy is allowed to pass to the engine and motor electronics thereby allowing faster powering of the engine and motor electronics.

An electronic control unit for a combustion engine having a water coolant passageway in heat transfer adjacency to the unit and adapted to remove heat from the unit. An ECU for combustion engine, comprising: electrical input circuits, electrical control circuits, electrical fuel injection output drive circuits, electrical oil pump output drive circuits and electrical ignition circuits. An ECU is disclosed which is adapted to verify firing of the ignition coils of the engine.

A start-assist circuit for increasing the fuel-injection voltage during the startup of an internal combustion engine having fuel injectors, a starter solenoid, and a battery is provided. The boost circuit receives the battery DC power and then boosts the battery voltage to provide an output having a level sufficient for a fuel injection solenoid during the start process.
