Disclosed is a venting assembly for a dip coating system, a dip coating system utilizing such venting assembly, and related method for dip coating. These aspects are particularly directed for the production of organic photoconductor layers in imaging devices, and more particularly to drum photoreceptors. The venting assembly eliminates or significantly reduces coating defects otherwise occurring in the production of drum photoreceptors. Also disclosed are the drum photoreceptors produced by this assembly, apparatus and coating process.

Venting assembly for dip coating apparatus and related processes

A one-piece sponge cleans and removes coating material from the bottom edge, inside and outside surface of a photoreceptor drum. The one-piece sponge has an inner sponge section and an outer sponge section, both with internal channels to remove solvent and dissolved coating material.

A process including providing a hollow imaging drum having a first end, a second end, an outside surface, an inside surface and coating material on both the inside surface and the outside surface at at least the first end, simultaneously contacting the coating material on both the inside surface and the outside surface at the first end of the drum with resilient foam material, flowing liquid solvent for the coating material to the foam material where the foam material contacts the first end of the drum, the foam material being insoluble in the flowing solvent, producing relative movement between the foam material and the drum to simultaneously wipe both the inside surface and the outside surface of the first end of the drum with the foam material and solvent material and simultaneously remove coating material from the inside surface and the outside surface of the first end of the drum, and flowing the solvent away from the drum to carry away coating material removed from the inside surface and the outside surface of the first end of the drum.

Process for removing a strip of coating material

A carrier containing a core, a polymer coating or mixtures of polymers thereover, and wherein the coating polymer or mixtures contains a conductive polymer.

Coated carriers

A toner for particular use in devices utilizing hybrid scavengeless development includes toner particles of at least one binder, at least one colorant, and optionally one or more additives, the toner exhibiting a charge per particle diameter (Q/D) of from &minus;0.1 to &minus;1.0 fC/&mgr;m with a variation during development of from 0 to 0.25 fC/&mgr;m and the distribution is substantially unimodal and possesses a peak width of less than 0.5 fC/&mgr;m, and the toner has a triboelectric charge of from &minus;25 to &minus;70 &mgr;C/g with a variation during development of from 0 to 15 &mgr;C/g following triboelectric contact with carrier particles. Use of a toner with such properties in a hybrid scavengeless development apparatus enables images to be achieved with properties similar to that achieved in offset lithography.
