A system includes a controller for an exhaust aftertreatment system including a SCR catalyst in exhaust gas-receiving communication with an engine and at least one reductant dosing system structured to provide reductant to the exhaust gas. The controller is structured to determine a ratio of NO to NOat or proximate an inlet of the SCR catalyst. The controller is further structured to command the at least one reductant dosing system to increase, decrease, or maintain an amount of reductant provided to the exhaust gas based on comparing the ratio of NO to NOto a previous NO to NOratio.

A computer system is structured to determine a density of particulate matter in a diesel particulate filter (DPF) sample. The computer system includes a processing circuit having a processor and a memory. The processing circuit is structured to generate a computed tomography (CT) scan-based image of the DPF sample; and, segment the CT scan-based image of the DPF sample into a plurality of regions. For at least one region from the plurality of regions, the processing circuit is structured to determine a density of a portion of the DPF sample corresponding to the at least one region of the CT scan-based image of the DPF sample and cause an electronic display of a user device to display the CT scan-based image including the at least one region and an indication of the density for the at least one region.

An aftertreatment system for reducing constituents of an exhaust gas having a sulfur content includes: an oxidation catalyst; a filter disposed downstream of the oxidation catalyst; and a controller configured to, in response to determining that the filter is to be regenerated and a desulfation condition being satisfied: cause a temperature of the oxidation catalyst to increase to a first regeneration temperature that is greater than or equal to 400 degrees Celsius and less than 550 degrees Celsius, cause the temperature of the oxidation catalyst to be maintained at the first regeneration temperature for a first time period, and after the first time period, cause the temperature of the oxidation catalyst to increase to a second regeneration temperature equal to or greater than 550 degrees Celsius.

Systems and methods for desulfation of catalysts included in aftertreatment systems

Systems, apparatuses, and methods include a controller for an exhaust aftertreatment system including a SCR catalyst in exhaust gas-receiving communication with an engine and at least one reductant dosing system structured to provide reductant to the exhaust gas. The controller is structured to determine a concentration of one or more of NO and NOat or proximate an inlet of the exhaust aftertreatment system and based on a dynamic model of the SCR catalyst, information indicative of a concentration of NOx at or proximate an outlet of the exhaust aftertreatment system, and information indicative of an amount of stored reductant in the SCR catalyst. The controller is further structured to command the at least one reductant doser to increase, decrease, or maintain an amount of reductant provided to the exhaust gas based on the determined concentration of one or more of NO and NOin the exhaust gas.

A method includes acquiring nitrogen oxide (NOx) data indicative of a first amount of NOx in an exhaust flow exiting an engine and a second amount of NOx in the exhaust flow exiting an exhaust aftertreatment system coupled to the engine where the exhaust aftertreatment system including a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system including a SCR catalyst; determining a NOx conversion efficiency fault is present within the exhaust aftertreatment system based on the first amount of NOx and the second amount of NOx; monitoring an actual amount of NOx in the exhaust flow downstream of the SCR catalyst; determining an expected amount of NOx downstream of the SCR catalyst; and determining the SCR catalyst is responsible for the NOx conversion efficiency fault in response to the actual amount of NOx differing from the expected amount of NOx by more than a threshold amount.

Diagnostic methods for a high efficiency exhaust aftertreatment system

An aftertreatment system for reducing constituents of an exhaust gas having a sulfur content includes: an oxidation catalyst; a filter disposed downstream of the oxidation catalyst; and a controller configured, in response to determining that the filter is to be regenerated and a desulfation condition being satisfied, to: cause a temperature of the oxidation catalyst to increase to a first regeneration temperature that is greater than or equal to 400 degrees Celsius and less than 550 degrees Celsius; cause the temperature of the oxidation catalyst to be maintained at the first regeneration temperature for a first time period; and after the first time period, cause the temperature of the oxidation catalyst to increase to a second regeneration temperature equal to or greater than 550 degrees Celsius.

A method of recovering selective catalytic reduction catalysts relates to metal-Zeolite based catalysts. A selective catalytic reduction catalyst service event where a metal-Zeolite based selective catalytic reduction catalyst of an exhaust aftertreatment system may perform below a threshold level of performance is determined. The selective catalytic reduction catalyst then exposed to a recovery fluid selected to facilitate movement of metal ions.

Recovering deactivated metal/zeolite catalysts

An exhaust aftertreatment system includes a diesel oxidation catalyst in exhaust gas receiving communication with an engine. A selective catalytic reduction catalyst on filter (SCR on filter) is positioned downstream of the diesel oxidation catalyst. A hydrocarbon doser is configured to inject hydrocarbons into a flow of the exhaust gas upstream of the diesel oxidation catalyst. A reductant doser is configured to inject reductant into the flow of the exhaust gas upstream of the SCR on filter and downstream of the diesel oxidation catalyst. An aftertreatment controller is operatively coupled to the hydrocarbon doser. The aftertreatment controller is configured to control a dosing rate at which the hydrocarbon doser injects hydrocarbons into the flow of the exhaust gas so as to cause regeneration of the SCR on filter.

Sensor configuration for aftertreatment system including SCR on filter

A method includes interpreting NOx data indicative of an amount of NOx exiting an engine and an amount of NOx exiting an exhaust aftertreatment system coupled to the engine, determining a NOx conversion efficiency fault is present based on the amount of NOx exiting the engine and the amount of NOx exiting the exhaust aftertreatment system, and determining at least one of a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst of the exhaust aftertreatment system and a diesel particulate filter having a coating of a SCR reaction catalyst (DPF-SCR) of the exhaust aftertreatment system are responsible for the NOx conversion efficiency fault based on at least one of a reductant slip amount and a NOx conversion value across at least one of the SCR catalyst and the DPF-SCR.

A system for and method of diagnosing operation of a partial filtration filter exhaust aftertreatment system are provided. An upstream exhaust temperature value is determined in an exhaust system upstream of at least one of a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) component and a first partial flow filter (PFF) component. A downstream exhaust temperature value is determined in the exhaust system downstream of a second PFF component positioned downstream of the at least one of the DOC component and the first PFF component. A frequency difference is determined between a first frequency content of the upstream exhaust temperature value and a second frequency content of the downstream exhaust temperature value. If the frequency is less than a predetermined threshold, it is determined that at least one of the DOC component and the PFF component are not present in the exhaust system.

On-board diagnostic methods for partial filtration filters

Systems, apparatus and methods are provided for reducing reductant consumption in an exhaust aftertreatment system that includes a first SCR device and a downstream second SCR device, a first reductant injector upstream of the first SCR device, and a second reductant injector between the first and second SCR devices. NOx conversion occurs with reductant injection by the first reductant injector to the first SCR device in a first temperature range and with reductant injection by the second reductant injector to the second SCR device when the temperature of the first SCR device is above a reductant oxidation conversion threshold.

An aftertreatment system includes a first oxidation catalyst, a second oxidation catalyst, and a turbocharger. The SCR diagnostic module is structured to determine at least one of a SCR catalyst and a diesel particulate filter including a coating of a SCR reaction catalyst (DPF-SCR) are responsible for the NOx conversion efficiency fault based on at least one of a reductant slip amount and a NOx conversion value across at least one of the SCR catalyst and the DPF-SCR.

The disclosure provides a system and method for determining an amount of fuel injected or delivered by a single fuel injector in an internal combustion engine by generating one fuel injection event after the engine has stopped operating. The fuel delivered is statistically analyzed in comparison with a commanded fuel delivery amounts to determine the suitability of fuel injector on-time calibration for the analyzed fuel injector. If the fuel delivered deviates from the commanded amount of fuel delivery by a predetermined value, the fuel injector on-time calibration for the analyzed fuel injector is changed.
