An analyte test meter that detects contact between a user and an electrochemical test strip includes a test strip port, a capacitive sensor positioned proximate to the test strip port, and a controller connected to the test strip port and the capacitive sensor. The controller is configured to identify insertion of the electrochemical test strip into the test strip port, apply a drive signal to the capacitive sensor, measure a first response to the drive signal from the capacitive sensor, identify dosing of a fluid sample on the electrochemical test strip, apply the drive signal to the capacitive sensor after the dosing, measure a second response to the drive signal from the capacitive sensor, and detect contact between a body of a user and at least one electrode in the electrochemical test strip in response to a difference between the first and second responses exceeding a predetermined threshold.

A handheld test strip illumination device includes a housing. A strip connector positioned within the housing receives a first portion of a test strip in a test strip test position. A light source is positioned within the housing. A lens/light reflecting device is aligned to receive photons emitted from the light source and direct the photons onto the first portion of the test strip within the strip connector. The first portion of the test strip within the strip connector includes a longitudinal transparent layer receiving the photons emitted from the lens/light reflecting device within the housing. The photons pass through the longitudinal transparent layer and are emitted from the longitudinal transparent layer in a second portion of the test strip positioned outside of the housing, thereby illuminating a dose area of the test strip.

A test strip for analyzing a biological fluid using a test meter includes a biosensor to sense the biological fluid. The test strip includes contacts to communicate with the test meter and conductors connected to the contacts. The test strip further includes a combination of diodes, resistors, and short circuits arranged in various ways between the conductors. The test strip stores data based on a number of connections severed between the diodes, the resistors, the short circuits, and the conductors. The test meter reads the data and communicates with the biosensor via the contacts.

In one embodiment, a first test strip comprises: a first measurement electrode connectable to a test meter; a first trace loop with a first associated resistance, where the first trace loop is connectable to the test meter; and a second trace loop with a second associated resistance, where the second trace loop is connectable to the test meter. Apparatus and method for remotely controlling an ambulatory medical device

A connector for establishing electrical connection between a testing device and a test strip with a biological fluid thereon includes a contact pad on the test strip, and one or more contact wires in the testing device. When the strip is inserted into the testing device, part of the strip's end engages a contact portion of a contact wire and deflects it in a direction normal to the direction of insertion. In certain embodiments the radius of curvature (in the direction of insertion) of the contact portion is controlled to reduce abrasion of the strip by the wire. In other embodiments the radius of curvature (perpendicular to the direction of insertion) is controlled to reduce the abrasion of the strip by the wire. Sometimes the contact portion and/or contact pad is plated with a sacrificial material to reduce the coefficient of friction. In other embodiments various numbers of contacts receive the end of the strip substantially simultaneously, or are staggered in rows to distribute the resistance presented.

Biological testing system and connector therefor

A remote measurement system measures the concentrations of analytes in fluid samples. The system includes a metering device that can receive signals from a test strip or alternatively interrogate the test strip to obtain information. The test strip includes an area for receiving a fluid sample and electrochemically producing a current response that is sensed within the fluid sample. The test strip also includes an antenna and a radio frequency signal circuit for transmitting a signal indicative of the current response of a fluid sample to be analyzed. The metering device receives the signal and can convert it into a readable display in some embodiments. Remote electrochemical analysis of a fluid sample is thereby obtained.
