A flow controller can include a conduit wall and a membrane coupled to the conduit wall. The membrane is configured to obstruct gas flow through the conduit. The flow controller includes a membrane controller, positioned adjacent to the membrane, wherein the membrane is positioned on one side of the membrane controller, such that the membrane controller impedes bending of the membrane in a second direction different from the first direction, thereby restricting gas flow through the conduit.

Low flow controller

A ventilator device and system comprising a rotating compressor, preferably a drag compressor, which, at the beginning of each inspiratory ventilation phase, is accelerated to a sufficient speed to deliver the desired inspiratory gas flow, and is subsequently stopped or decelerated to a basal flow level to permit the expiratory ventilation phase to occur. The ventilator device is small and light weight enough to be utilized in portable applications. The ventilator device is power efficient enough to operate for extended periods of time on internal or external batteries. Also provided is an oxygen blending apparatus which utilizes solenoid valves having specific orifice sizes for blending desired amounts of oxygen into the inspiratory gas flow. Also provided is an exhalation valve having an exhalation flow transducer which incorporates a radio frequency data base to provide an attendant controller with specific calibration information for the exhalation flow transducer.

Portable drag compressor powered mechanical ventilator

Stored, individualized compressor characterization information is used to control the acceleration and deacceleration of the rotating compressor.

A mixing device for respiratory, therapeutic, or anesthetic uses provides two of three gases to a mixed gas outlet. A gas selecting means fluidly connected with a first and second gas supplies selectively provides fluid passage of only one of the first or second gases to the outlet. A gas bypass selectively bypasses two of the three gases to the gas outlet. A locking device activated by the selecting means prevents a predetermined one of the first or second gases from being bypassed to the gas outlet. A first and second pressure balancing regulator equalizing the pressures of the selected gas and the third gas before passing those gases to a controllable mixing device which meters the gases into a mixing chamber, after which the gases are passed to the gas outlet. Advantageously, a gas selector knob is positioned coaxially with a mixing valve such that rotation of the selector valve causes correctly calibrated scales to become visible to reflect the mixture of the selected gases as they are mixed.
