A method, system and apparatus provide operation of an RF amplifier at a power level responsive to detected or expected conditions such as weather attenuation.

Amplifier control system

The subject matter described herein generally relates to apparatus, systems, methods and associated computer instructions for predicting the end of service life of a space charge limited vacuum electron device. The device produces an electron beam current and has a cathode and a filament powered by an adjustable voltage power supply providing a voltage between a first low voltage and a second higher voltage to heat the cathode to an electron emitting temperature. The process includes periodically, while the device is in operation, adjusting the voltage provided by the power supply while monitoring the beam current, determining a knee-point in the voltage where the beam current begins to decrease as the voltage is decreased, and calculating, based on the determined knee-point and a predetermined voltage vs service life remaining relationship, the amount of service life left in the device.

Predicting the end of service life for a vacuum electron device

A biasing system for use with a multi-stage depressed collector of a high power amplifier includes one or more adjustable power sources. A power controller provides control signals to the power sources depending on the operational RF power level. For low power applications, biasing of collector electrodes is reduced such that savings in energy costs are realized, and operational temperature and wear are reduced. The control signals are based on values stored in a look-up table. For multiple depressed electrodes, biasing can be controlled in tandem or independently.

Dynamic depressed collector

A klystron tube for amplifying signals at microwave radio frequencies utilizes an electron source for emitting electrons through a field focused by a high energy magnet in the RF section of the tube. After the electrons have passed through the active area of the tube, the electrons strike the collector which, in this case, is a multistage depressed collector. The multistages of the depressed collector are connected to high energy voltage sources of different potentials. The klystron tube with the multistage depressed collector is uniquely used here for the first time in a ground based satellite or terrestrial communications system.

The drawbar device of this invention illustrates two structures, both substantially similar, and providing a beam member that is removably mounted in a slide guide and retaining bracket. This device may use an I-beam or a tubular steel member. Each beam is provided with divergent arms, with ear portions adapted to be secured, as by pins, to a retainer plate secured to the frame of a dump truck. A front plate on the beam has an adjustably-secured trailer hitch hook by which a trailer may be attached for towing. The retaining bracket is also fixedly secured to the frame of the dump truck.
