This invention relates to derivatives of acrylic acid useful as fungicides, to processes for preparing them, to fungicidal compositions containing them, and to methods of combating fungi, especially fungal infections in plants, using them.

Fungicides

This invention relates to novel fluorinated ethers, useful as insecticides and acaricides, to processes and intermediates for their preparation, to insecticidal and acaricidal compositions thereof and to methods of combating and controlling insect and acarine pests therewith.

Insecticidal ethers

A compound of formula: ##STR1## wherein W represents one or two substituents selected from halo, alkyl, alkoxy, alkoxyalkyl, haloalkyl and haloalkoxy, or W represents a bidentate group linking adjacent carbon atoms selected from alkylene and alkylenedioxy; Z represents a fluoroalkyl group of up to two carbon atoms; Y represents a substituted aryl group where such substituent is selected from halo, alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, aryloxy and arylamino; and either X' is hydrogen and X is selected from hydrogen, halo, hydroxy, alkoxy and aryloxy, or X and X' together represent a second bond between the adjacent carbon atoms. The compounds have useful insecticidal properties.

Insecticidal and acaricidal compounds of formula: ##STR1## and stereoisomers thereof, where R.sup.1 represents C.sub.1-4 alkyl, R.sup.2 represents H, CN, CH.sub.3, or CF.sub.3 ; Q represents CH or N; and Z represents one or more substituents selected from fluoro, benzyl, phenoxy and halophenoxy.

Insecticidal compounds

This invention relates to a process for the preparation of insecticidally active compounds and to novel styrene derivatives useful as intermediates therein.

Process for the preparation of insecticidally active diphenyl ether

The invention provides insecticidally active compounds of formula I: ##STR1## wherein A is selected from oxygen and a group of formula S(O).sub.n, where n represents 0, 1 or 2; W represents one or two substituents selected from halo, alkyl, alkoxy, alkoxyalkyl, haloalkyl and haloalkoxy, or W represents a bidentate group linking adjacent carbon atoms, selected from alkylene and alkylenedioxy; Y represents a substituted aryl group where each substituent is selected from halo, alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, aryloxy and arylamino; Z represents a fluoroalkyl group of up to two carbon atoms; and either X' represents hydrogen and X is selected from hydrogen, halo, hydroxy, alkoxy and acyloxy, or X and X' together represent a second bond between the adjacent carbon atoms. The invention also provides processes and intermediates useful for the preparation of the compounds of formula I, insecticidal compositions comprising the compounds of formula I, and methods of combating and controlling pests therewith.

The invention provides insecticidally active compounds of formula: ##STR1## wherein X is N or CH; R.sup.a is the group (R.sup.1)(R.sup.2)NS(O).sub.n --wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are independently selected from H, alkyl, haloalkyl, alkoxy, alkoxyalkyl, formyl, alkanoyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, optionally substituted cycloalkyl, optionally substituted cycloalkylmethyl, optionally substituted benzyl and optionally substituted phenyl, and n is 0, 1 or 2; R.sup.b is the group --OSO.sub.2 R.sup.3 wherein R.sup.3 is alkyl optionally substituted by an optionally substituted phenyl group, haloalkyl, alkenyl optionally substituted by an optionally substituted phenyl group, optionally substituted aryl or N(R.sup.4)(R.sup.5), wherein R.sup.4 and R.sup.5 are independently selected from H and alkyl; and wherein the groups R.sup.a and R.sup.b occupy either a 1,3 configuration relative to each other when X is CH, or a 2,4 or 2,6 configuration relative to X when X is N. The invention provides insecticidal compositions comprising these compounds and methods of their use in controlling insects and also provides processes and intermediates for preparing the compounds.

Insecticidal azolyl propanols

A compound of formula: ##STR1## wherein X and Y are each selected from halo, alkyl of up to four carbon atoms, haloalkyl of up to four carbon atoms, alkoxy of up to four carbon atoms, haloalkoxy of up to four carbon atoms, provided that no more than one of X and Y is alkyl or alkoxy, and W and Z are each selected from hydrogen and halogen, R.sup.1 is hydrogen, alkyl of up to 6 carbon atoms or carboxylic acyl of up to 10 carbon atoms, R.sup.2 is the 1H-tetrazol-1-yl or 2H-tetrazol-2-yl group and R.sup.3 is hydrogen or alkyl of up to four carbon atoms. These compounds are useful as pesticides. Intermediates for preparing these compounds are also disclosed.

Tetrazolyl compounds and insecticidal use thereof

Compounds of the formula: ##STR1## The compounds are useful as pesticides, particularly insecticides.

Azolyl substituted aralkyl compounds and pesticidal use thereof

A compound of formula: ##STR1## wherein W represents one or more substituents selected from halo, alkyl, alkoxy, alkoxyalkyl, haloalkyl and haloalkoxy or W represents a bidentate group linking adjacent carbon atoms selected from alkylene and alkylenedioxy; Y is a group of formula ##STR2## wherein X is a group of formula --(CF.sub.2).sub.n R.sup.3, where R.sup.3 is selected from hydrogen, chloro and fluoro, and n is one or two, R.sup.1 is selected from hydrogen, chloro, fluoro and hydroxy and R.sup.2 is selected from methyl, cyano, ethynyl and hydrogen; Q is selected from carbon bearing a hydrogen atom and nitrogen; and Z represents one or more substituents selected from fluoro, benzyl, phenoxy, chlorophenoxy, fluorophenoxy and bromophenoxy, or any isomer thereof. Processes for preparing these compounds and intermediates for use therein, insecticidal compositions containing these compounds and the use thereof are also disclosed.

Diphenyl ether derivatives and their use as insecticides

The invention concerns a process for preparing 2-substituted-3,4,5,6-tetrafluorobenzyl alcohols by reaction of pentafluorobenzyl alcohol with a Grignard reagent under specified conditions. The products some of which are novel are useful as intermediates for insecticidal esters e.g. those with pyrethroid acids. A typical ester is 2-methyl-3,4,5,6-tetrafluorobenzyl 3-(2-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoroprop-1-en-1-yl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropane carboxylate.
