A phased-array antenna includes an antenna layer of a stacked printed circuit board, a ground plane layer of the stacked printed circuit board spaced apart from the antenna layer, and a first dielectric layer of the stacked printed circuit board disposed between and in opposed contact with the antenna layer and the ground plane layer. The antenna layer includes an associated metal patch pattern defined by a series of slots. The stacked printed circuit board defines a thickness extending between a top end of the stacked printed circuit board and a bottom end of the stacked printed circuit board. The phased-array antenna includes a series of ground vias extending between the top and bottom ends of the stacked printed circuit board. The ground vias are configured to suppress surface waves propagating across the stacked printed circuit board.

Suppression of surface waves in printed circuit board-based phased-array antennas

A fixed antenna includes multiple printed board panels, each containing an array of radiating elements where a subset of radiating elements receives a delayed signal from a feed layer. The number of panels is minimized by configuring each array to generate a shaped beam. The shaped beam is produced by non-uniformly spaced elements and non-uniform array element phase shifts.

An antenna with an FR-4 dielectric material layer includes at least one metallization layer having metallic dipoles organized into two clusters. Each of the two clusters includes metallic dipoles generally elongated along a common axis to produce signals of specific polarization. Each of the two clusters is oriented orthogonal to the other to produce two separate, orthogonally polarized signals. Each of the two clusters is associated with a dedicated stripline feed, positioned and oriented to maximize gain of the radiating element. Power from each stripline planar feed couples to the metallic dipoles through a dedicated aperture in the stripline ground plane.

A phased-array antenna assembly includes an antenna board stack, a radome configured to cover the antenna board stack, and a casing configured to support the antenna board stack. The antenna board stack includes a central core, a bottom antenna unit defining a bottom thickness between a bottom surface of the central core and a bottom end of the antenna board stack, and a top antenna unit defining a top thickness between a top surface of the central core and the top end of the antenna board stack that is substantially equal to the bottom thickness. The bottom antenna unit includes two spaced apart bottom metal layers each associated with a different distance from the axis of symmetry. The top antenna unit includes two spaced apart top metal layers each associated with a corresponding one of the distances from the axis of symmetry associated with the bottom metal layers.

Balanced multi-layer printed circuit board for phased-array antenna

An antenna includes three metallization layers having metallic dipoles organized into two clusters. Each of the two clusters includes metallic dipoles generally elongated along a common axis to produce signals of specific polarization. Dual polarized probe coupled radiating element for satellite communication applications

An antenna includes a higher order Floquet mode proximity coupled radiating element. The higher order Floquet mode scattering allows good polarization and the radiating element and feed layer can be combined. A vertical probe connects the metal layers of the radiating element for ease of manufacture. The radiating element utilizes higher order dielectric constant materials and a compact Wilkinson power divider allows for a smaller footprint and superior isolation.

Planar radiating element and manifold for electronically scanned antenna applications

An electronically scanned array radiating element includes a ground plane layer having a pair of conductive probes. A metallization layer is coupled with the ground plane layer and includes a first asymmetric cluster including HOF scattering members and impedance-matching dipoles. A first electrically-large impedance-matching dipole is coupled with one of the conductive probes and is associated with the first asymmetric cluster. The first electrically-large impedance-matching dipole and the first asymmetric cluster may cooperate with one another to produce a signal. A second asymmetric cluster includes HOF scattering members and impedance-matching dipoles. A second electrically-large impedance-matching dipole is coupled with the other conductive probe and is associated with the second asymmetric cluster. The electrically-large impedance-matching dipole and the asymmetric cluster may cooperate with one another to produce a second signal having a polarization orthogonal to the polarization of the first signal.

The radar system may include a pair of AESA panels respectively positioned on either side of a central axis, wherein a pointing direction of the first AESA panel is offset by a predetermined angle in a clockwise direction with respect to the central axis and a pointing direction of the second AESA panel is offset by the predetermined angle in a counterclockwise direction with respect to the central axis. A controller may be configured for selectively activating at least one of: the first AESA panel for providing a first coverage area in a first direction offset from the central axis, the second AESA panel for providing a second coverage area in a second direction offset from the central axis, or the pair of AESA panels jointly for providing a third coverage area between the first coverage area and the second coverage area.

The present invention is directed to a radiating element assembly including radiating element integrated with a radome. The radiating element assembly may be dual-polarized. Further, the radiating element assembly may operate over a frequency band of 10.9 GHz-14.5 GHz and may be configured for minimizing polarization cross-talk at Array Normal Scan of well below &#x2212;30 decibels over the entire frequency band. Still further, the radiating element assembly may provide return loss at Array Normal Scan of less than or equal to &#x2212;10 dB.

A device occupying a volumetric space definable within the bounds of a substantially spherical volume for realizing isotropic radiation may include a support for supporting a plurality of multi-polarization capable antenna elements. The plurality of antenna elements may include a first antenna element oriented in a first direction, a second antenna element oriented in a second direction, and a third antenna element oriented in a third direction. The support may support the first antenna element, the second antenna element, and the third antenna element in an arrangement such that the second direction is at least substantially different than the first direction, and the third direction is at least substantially different than the first direction and the second direction. The plurality of antenna elements generally occupies a volumetric space definable within the bounds of a substantially spherical volume.

Omni-directional ultra wide band miniature doubly curved antenna array

The present invention is directed to an interface for connecting a waveguide manifold of a transition to a stripline manifold of the transition. The interface may include a plurality of metamaterial layers, each including a metamaterial(s). The interface may further include a ground plane layer which may be connected to both the plurality of metamaterial layers and to the stripline manifold. Further, the interface may include a plurality of ground vias which may form channels through each of the layers of the interface and through the stripline manifold for providing a ground structure for the interface. The interface is further configured for forming a resonant structure which provides a low-loss, broadband conversion between a stripline mode and a waveguide mode for electromagnetic energy traversing through the interface between the waveguide manifold and the stripline manifold.

The present invention is directed to a matched load. The matched load may include a stripline section and multiple resist material sections. The multiple resist material sections may be connected to the stripline section and may each include a resist material. The resist material may be a metal alloy film. Further, the load may be configured for operating over a frequency band ranging from 9 GHz to 18 GHz. Still further, the load may be configured for providing a return loss of less than &#x2212;25 dB at each operating frequency included in the 9 GHz to 18 GHz frequency band. Still further, the load is compact, such that multiple loads may fit into a dual polarized radiating element cell.

The present invention is Broad Area Maritime Surveillance (BAMS) radiating element which includes a plurality of dipole layers, a stripline feed layer and a cover portion. The radiating element is low-profile and may have a thickness of 180 mils. Further, the radiating element may have an operating frequency range from 5.35 GHz to 5.46 GHz and a depth of 0.083 free space wavelengths at the high end of the operating frequency range. Still further, the dipoles of the dipole layers of the BAMS radiating element vary in width from layer to layer to maximize match at the edge of the scan volume. The BAMS radiating element may be at least partially constructed of printed circuit board material, such as Rogers 4003. The BAMS radiating element may have a return loss of less than &#x2212;10 decibels over its entire scan volume and frequency band.

C-band radiating element for broad area maritime surveillance (BAMS)

An array antenna may include a substrate, an array of metamaterial elements including radiating elements suspended in the substrate and integrated with the array of dipoles, where the metamaterial elements include a first metal layer and a second metal layer connected by a via, an array of dipoles, a groundplane coupled with a first side of the substrate, the ground plane having a symmetric slot aperture and not contacting the array of metamaterial elements, and a stripline feed for the radiating elements, where the stripline feed passes from a groundplane first side through the symmetric slot aperture to a groundplane second side.
